To my recollection the film is titled Seven Pounds because that was the exact weight of the combined organs that Ben's character intended to donate to each of his chosen beneficiaries. I imagine it must have been a terribly awful feeling for Ben to have resigned himself to his decided fate for the tremendous guilt he felt for the lives he blamed himself for having destroyed; and to have carried it all for as long as he did his final decision must have felt like the only option of relief to escape it all.😥

It comes from the requirement of a pound of your own flesh to be held as collateral. He kiIIed 7 people, so to him, he required 7 pounds in order to regain his soul.
@VladimirMizich
@VladimirMizich 8 ай бұрын
The "pound of flesh" is an idiom from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice". Goes something like this in the play: "Act 1, scene 3 In Venice Bassanio goes to Shylock, a Jewish moneylender, to borrow, in Antonio's name, 3,000 ducats. Shylock hates Antonio but agrees to lend the money provided that Antonio sign a bond to yield a pound of his own flesh if he is unable to repay the loan on time." - "pound" is of course a metric of weight here, like KG, or LB. - in the play it literally meant that if Antonio could not repay the debt (the money he borrowed), he would have to cut off a piece of his own flesh, from his own body, 1 pound, which is quite gruesome if you imagine (would you cut off something from your ass cheek or where exactly? LOL) - in the play cutting off a pound of flesh is definitely meant as an intimidation tactic, and as leverage - nowadays a "pound of flesh" from your own body is just an idiom to emphasize the urgency when having to repay debts - So you see how the movie "Seven Pounds" is connected here and what the title means. Ben/Tim's character is cutting off 7 pieces of his own flesh, of his own body, to repay a debt. Do all the gifts add up to exactly 7 pounds in weight? No. Probably not. Are all the 7 gifts actually from his body, from his flesh? Not quite, but close enough. It's more of a metaphor for repaying debt 7 times in different ways. Here's the list of what Ben/Tim did. 1. donates lung lobe to his brother 2. donates part of his liver to a social worker 3. donates kidney to a hockey coach 4. donates bone marrow to a young boy 5. gives keys and the deed to his beach house to a woman and her two kids (the woman had an abusive boyfriend, so Ben is saving her that way, giving her a new home), but as you can see this gift is definitely not a cut from his body 6. donates eyes to piano player 7. donates heart to Emily It's not too precise, because of gift number 5, but still a good reference to Shakespeare overall. Seven Pounds of flesh to repay a debt. Thanks for reading.

I think Will Smith is actually a really good human being who unfortunately fell in love with someone who has manipulated his kind and caring nature and emotions for 20+ years. I can't obviously "prove" this. Just my opinion as an empath observer.

Bisscute very nice reaction to a beautiful movie with a message.💓💓💓 Don't be ashamed to cry if a movie touches your feelings. For future reactions, I recommend a movie that personally touched me deeply and that you should see: "What dreams may come" (1998) is beautiful and with a great message. For Halloween, please react to the movie: Lost Boys (1987) and also The Frighteners from 1996, both of which offer a "comic" horror that I know you will like. As a Mexican fan, I don't know if you are familiar with our tradition of the "Day of the Dead" which is celebrated on November 1 and 2. For those days, I recommend you watch the movies "Coco" and a classic in black and white (with subtitles) called " Macario" (1960) you will surely like it👍😊

I've always loved this movie. However, one thing has always bothered me. Sure, it was nice to give the mother his beach house, but now she probably has to pay more per month in property taxes than it cost for her to live in her much smaller house in LA. Sometimes gifts can end up costing you a lot of money.

Hi biss I have a couple things to mention. The song they were both singing at the table was called "Loving you" by Minnie Ripperton she may be the first female vocalist to perform a whistle note like Mariah Carey or Ariana Grande. As for the Movie it was the first time I saw it and I enjoyed your reaction as usual . I would like to recommend another Will Smith movie from many years ago and its more of an action movie you would enjoy very much imo. Enemy of the State. Very good movie with many good actors.

Aww it kinda makes me sad that one slap is ruining everyone's entire perception of Will Smith as a person and an actor, to the point that they don't even want to watch his older movies. Not to make excuses for his inexcusable actions, but he's clearly been broken by a manipulative harpy of a woman who probably hasn't loved him for several years. If the worst that has made him do is slap Chris Rock one time? Not so bad. It was literally the first universally unlikable thing I can recall him ever doing. Everything else before that has just been him working and trying to be positive. So if someone doesn't want to support any NEW Will Smith movies, I would understand. Chris Rock hasn't forgiven him so I probably won't either any time soon. But considering there are people in Hollywood who have long histories of repeated assault (sexual and otherwise), I have a hard time trying to cancel all things Will Smith over a slap.
