Great video. I have taken so many lessons using TracMan to learn that my problem was coming into the ball too steep. Nobody had accurately diagnosed the cause. Finally yesterday a new pro told me I had no separation and that was the reason I was too steep. I understand that better having seen this video. If I had only seen it when the M1 driver came out! That's the penalty for not subscribing! I'm now a follower.

Played baseball for years so i understand and use the basball swing in my warmup swings. The club on the upperbody to disassociate was weirdly difficult for me. Will work on it esp in the winter here in the states. Thanks as always Gents. Great Vid

Once again a great video. Just to add on to the drill that I used after watching your video is that I did 10-15 reps in baseball stance (i.e., in standing position above the ball) of rotating the lower body before hitting each ball on the range. The results were amazing. Similarly, I am adding 2-3 reps of the same as part of my pre-shot routine on the course. As a result i have started to hit longer and straighter. You guys are the best.

Hi Guys, Love the new video equipment and audio! Great segment today. Welcome to the USA and look forward to seeing your videos!! Andy, in looking at your TPI evaluation and how you bend your knee just past impact to compensate for a bit of tight left hip rotation, I do this as well and struggle with wether this is important since it is past impact. I am working on the external hip rotation and stretches and wondering how you're coming along with this. Hope you can continue to do segments on incorporating strength training and stretching with your excellent instruction. Hope your wrist is getting better!

Don't know how this will affect my swing since I seem to have trouble disassociating, but the stretching action alone of trying this in slow motion is pretty awesome. I'll keep working on it, but at the very least I have a new drill/stretch to add to my pre-round warm-up :)

I'm 16 and I play baseball and my swing was exactly like the first. I drive about 260-270 and I golf like 8 times a year. It's weird because baseball and golf swings are pretty different. I fixed what you guys taught in this video and drive 295. Insane how that helps that much

Great video, really helpful and intriguing. My only question is how long should the shoulders (upper body) be delayed in the downswing? I see some players like Jordan Speith not have much separation between the upper and lower body, and I see other players like Patrick Reed have a lot more separation between the upper and lower body.

Something I can finally feel. I used to be able to hit a baseball major league distance in high school. Played college ball. I used to cock the upper body back and as I was stepping through I always felt as if I had a little extra cock back. It’s nothing for me to play slow pitch mens softball and hit the ball 400 feet. Almost every time I step to the plate it’s a home run. Played class c-d ball meaning usually had rules where you could hit 1 home run an inning. If you hit anymore they were either a single or an out. So usually I’d have to chop down on the ball to keep it in play. Never could associate this with golf. It’s pretty embarrassing but I hit a golf ball with driver 230-270 never consistently. I’ve had the rare 300+ drives that just felt different and I think it’s it. I have almost wanted to go to a little bit of a step in my golf swing. But I know that will never work

Can you distinguish the separation you talk about between the modern swing (hips resist on the back swing, Jason Day) and the classic swing (hips open on the backswing, Hogan)? It seems separation might be different depending on these swing types. Thank you.

Can you guys explain how to close the face relative to the path? I'm fairly confident i am swinging quite straight based on the feedback produced by my divots, but i feel like i am unable to close the face enough, and therefore my shots start of straight but fade (rather than swinging left and fading back to the target line) Cheers.

Advanced and key to breaking 80-85. Just think about a micro move to get most of your lower body weight to the front foot before the upper body starts down. Don't exaggerate or you'll injure yourself. Baseball is a great example. Think about squishing the water out from a sponge under your lead foot before attacking the ball.

Bogey golfers beware! If you never cared about the disconnection thing you shouldn t be concerned. The reason is, it happens quite naturally coz if your grip is okay and you have a smooth swing and solid setting you should be able to hit straight long enough shots anyway and play your 80 something rounds. separating the hips in the downswing CONSCIOUSLY might be awarded by a few more yards for your drives. But honestly, most of us need to hit about 10,000 balls a year on the range to have good results.
@ibrahimal-saba3273
@ibrahimal-saba3273 7 жыл бұрын
Not true!! Separating your hips can fix so many things in your drive. If you hit high on the club face your shots will be much more centered, also it can dramatically help squaring the face at impact. I struggled for the past year with my drive trying all kinds of grips and swing thoughts, after I started concentrating on getting my hips to start the downswing I was able to go to a completely neutral grip with no risk of a slice or hook as long as my hips move first.

DON'T LISTEN TO THIS. THIS IS THE WORST THING YOU COULD DO FOR YOUR SWING. If you get your hips faster than your arms, they will stop turning before impact. When that happens, you stall and either hit a block or a hook.
@Wesquire
@Wesquire 8 жыл бұрын
And it is pretty funny that they are talking about power when neither of them are long hitters. I stopped disassociating my lower body and finally broke 130mph club speed. Monte Scheinblum will also tell you that syncing your lower and upper body is the most important thing for swinging right, and he won the world long drive competition
@Wesquire
@Wesquire 8 жыл бұрын
Look at Adam Scott's swing for an example. Perfectly synced and he has the best swing on tour.
@meandmygolf.
@meandmygolf. 8 жыл бұрын
All of the best players in the world start with their lower body and transfer energy through each segment. Hips fire first then slow to pass energy on to the torso which then slows to pass energy to the hands and then club etc. It sounds like you have lots of natural speed which is great and although you may feel that you don't disassociate you probably do as will Adam Scott. Thats why it looks in "sync". Yes golfers can go too earl with their lower body also which can cause the shot to be left out to the right.
@Wesquire
@Wesquire 8 жыл бұрын
Meandmygolf Yes, and I'm not denying that. Hips will always go first, I wouldn't be able to go arms first even if I tried. However, the point is that you shouldn't be consciously dissociating. Your lower body automatically reacts. Most decent to good players have too much dissociation. If you look at Rory's swing from ~2012, a lot of people made a big deal about his hips firing twice. That was simply because his hips dissociated too much and he ran out of rotation until his arms had time to catch up. You guys even interviewed him and he said his club speed was faster about 18" behind the ball. This is exactly why. Rory is much more in sync these days and led the tour in SG Driving.
