A scene from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3 Episode 10 "Heroes on Both Sides" in which the Separatist Senate on Raxus Secundus debates The Clone Wars.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 10 cearly plays with similar themes as these Clone Wars episodes. One could argue that from a certain point of view, Separatists were actually the good guys in the Clone War conflict. The Separatist Council/Parliament consisted of many idividuals that were striving to do good, much like some on the Republic's side, hence the Heroes on Both Sides title.

The Clone Wars writers made such a good choice by introducing the Separatist Senate in the series, really enjoyed seeing these episodes plus they helped Ahsoka to grow as a character, foreshadowing her eventual fate and growing disillusionment with the Republic and the Jedi.

This episode was great. The issue I have with TCW was that it confined the nuanced view of a war to this one episode, while it was happy fooling around with 5+ episode long sisters arcs and copious amounts of comic relief with Jar Jar episodes or battle droids in general. It was like you would watch some straight kino before the show just had to remind you “oh, right, this is still a Saturday morning cartoon”.

Agreed. The Republic's failure was the arrogance and ignorance to assume that there was no other way but theirs, no force that could subvert their design or corrupt their system. It does drop some pretty sizeable tidbits surrounding the political machinations of Sidious's whole plan, namely making it illegal for representatives of the republic to talk to the CIS so neither side could come to a peaceful resolution or figure out that they're both being duped. I have a theory that Dooku for his part was keeping the CIS Senate in the dark about the kinds of Generals he was stacking the CIS military with. Which was largely cruel, ruthless, underhanded, and at times sociopathic evil sorts of being which was perhaps a very intentional move on his part under the guidance of Sidious in order to make it easier for the Jedi to justify fighting and killing them, they were by design meant to be the perfect "villains" for the republic and Jedi. Sidious probably surmising correctly that the Jedi would be too busy riding their moral high horses to look past the Generals they were fighting and realize the CIS had reasonable people with reasonable arguments.

The sad truth is, even if they had been born decades earlier, it would already be too late. If you read the Plagueis novel, it quickly becomes clear that the Sith had the pieces in place long before the Clone army was even an idea. All they needed was a match to light the fire. And that match was Naboo, where Plagueis found a young man with a taste for speeder racing. A young man named Palpatine.

The main problem being that both Senates were just there to create the illusion of democracy. Since Palpatine was the secret leader of both sides, and neither Senate really controlled their militaries, the politics were irrelevant. *This* was the big secret that Yoda and Obi-Wan stupidly kept for two decades. Heck, if Mace Windu had at least bothered to tell somebody like Bail Organa before charging off to arrest Palpatine, then everything that subsequently happened to both factions might have been averted.

You had instances where the duchess of mandalore was flirty with a jedi master on the council. The leader of the anti war committee was married to the jedi poster boy. And I won't doubt there was various other relationships between the jedi and senators as they would escort them alot. I wouldn't think it would be much of a stretch to have Grand Master Yoda and war hero Obi Wan Kenobi confront Palpatine in the Senate and tell the senate about the genocide that they have recorded proof of, aswell as the murder of Padme Amidala by the Emperors apprentice. It would probably lead to a second civil war that is alot more devastating but it would've done something.

As I grow older I find myself more interested in the actual political conflicts occurring that caused the formation of the CIS and how the entire clone war was just a massive con. The biggest punch in the gut is when you realized that what's occurring in Star Wars is very similar to what occurs in reality just on a more macro scale. The rich get richer, civilians are just trying to live, people want to be left alone and of course, there is always some nebulous unknown force (no pun intended) pulling the strings from the shadows.

She did voice it at the end of the Clone Wars, and she and Bail Organa, and Mon Mothma gathered like minded Senators that would voice their discontent against Palpatine Bail and Mon Mothma told Padmè how they considered making an organization but Padmè didn’t want to hear it at the time, but would consider it an option for the future Which was the groundwork of the Rebel Alliance Padmè knew if the corruption of the Republic ever since she was 14 when the Republic did nothing as the Trade Federation blockaded and invaded her world She and her people had to repel the Trade Federation by herself Throughout the war, she saw more corruption especially how deficit spending on miltary took priority over the civil good of the people Padmè knew and had much reason to give up on the Republic But she still believed in what the Republic represented, she still wanted to serve the people even as the government failed She doesn’t think the CIS was any better being run by corporations like the Trade Federation that ruined her world to begin with and had murderers like General Grevious continuing war crimes True the Republic as they evolved into the Empire was ultimately no better, but still she saw the decaying Republic as lesser of the two evils and should have the war resolved first And did saw the CIS cause as result of the Republic’s failure and at more than one occasion was willing to open negotiations to have peace with the CIS. To have a cease fire if possible, nothing short of acknowledging their sovereignty and let the galaxy split into two governments Even as the Sith sabotaged attempts at peace By the war’s end, Padmè was ready to address the wrongs of the Republic, especially if Palpatine wouldn’t give up his wartime emergency powers Had she lived, she may very well become a founding member of the Rebellion along with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma

Not only did Anakin being enslaved as a child and losing his mother right in front of him put him in a bad position but also, Anakin and Padme's situation in the war could put any relationship under a lot of pressure. Especially a relationship like theirs due to having to keep it a secret on top of everything.

The thing I find really funny about the concept of peace negotiations between the Separatists and the Republic is that the Republic would demand reparations for war crimes committed by the droid army, and the Separatist senators would have no clue they ever happened and think the Republic was making it up. They'd be wrong, of course, but that's just how dissonant they were to the reality of what their droid army was doing.

Also in RotS you have the Separatist Council that seems to be separate from the Separatist Senate. Did the Senate get shut down and replace or mostly eliminated?
