To be completely honest I believe the umbaran story arc is one of the darkest, if not the darkest in the CW series. Not only do we see an endless onslaught of clones dying, wounded being dragged and writhing in agony, disintegrations, and a leader like krell, there was also the part when the clones attacked each other. One of the most emotional moments I've ever seen in TV or movies was the look of absolute shock and horror on Rex's face when he realized he'd been killing clones. How frantic and desperate he was, when he is supposed to ALWAYS be in control. Clones are made to not fear and not break under circumstance but when he saw that he'd been killing his brothers he LOST it. And then came waxer. Seeing him dying, as he realized what he had done and how he was going out, the confusion and pain in his voice- and when he cried before he died- this is personally one of my favorite stories in all of the clone wars, simply by how it portrayed the war in a way that the other story arcs couldn't. It showed the gritty, dark side that we don't get to see very often. We were able to see the agony of the clones, without the help of the Jedi, just clones. I will remember umbara, and the 501st.

@@sambridgers9543 Well, nowadays, RedLetterMedia's reviews of The Last Jedi and the Rise of Skywalker seem to be channeling a lot of the same sentiments many Star Wars fans have about the latest sequel trilogy. In that regard, one can argue that Mike Stoklasa's content is still relevant. Also, while I don't agree with everything expressed in his Plinkett reviews and think the prequel movies do have other good parts (especially Revenge of the Sith), I still think some of the points in those reviews were valid and compelling. And I still find parts of those reviews to be entertaining in general, enough to occasionally revisit them for a few moments.

Yep, as someone who was closer to Krell than any other clone was willing to go by showing absolute obedience, Dogma probably felt the greatest sense of betrayal of all the clones. Kinda like what Mayday would later say in Bad Batch: "We were good soldiers...we followed orders...and for what?" When betrayal is one of the cardinal sins you could commit against a clone, forcing one to unwittingly kill their own brothers in combat when they had followed is the most heinous act of treachery imaginable. The truth is that, by this point, the Jedi and the Republic were doomed. Even if, miraculously, Anakin had seen through Palpatine's tricks and Order 66 had never been enacted, too many Jedi (like Krell and Barris) had gone Dark. The Republic was cracking apart both politically socially and getting too used to war and having a standing army to support. There would still have been a civil war; it would have just been uglier and more random with multiple factions like the new Darksiders and various non-Separatist secessionist groups as well as power factions looking to seize Palpatine's unprecedented political power for themselves. The Light would probably have triumphed in the end but the old order would long since have gone to a ruin.

The Umbara arc in particular was so raw and mature. What a shitfest for the mighty 501st and what a terrible price to pay for another victory in the battlefield, certainly Pong Krell has been one of the best villians of the series... Perhaps even the franchise. Better late than never I guess, Im so glad I finally gave it a chance, specially since the 6th season is so close!!!

A small detail I appreciate is that the angle of the shot made sense. Krell betrayed because he has a slight premonition about order 66 and palpatines plans. He probably didn’t know what exactly, but in his head the republic was doomed. As Krell said "A new power is rising. I have foreseen it, the Jedi will lose this war." Krell already knew and decided to betray so he wouldn't die. He decided to betray so he could become a Sith and gain power, as he said he serves his own side. He was willing to destroy and kill for power and to become a Sith apprentice. I don't think Krell knew exactly what would happen. He specifically stated wanting to be Dooku's apprentice, but if he knew about Palpatine then he would have well known the Rule of Two would never allow his survival. It's far more likely Krell merely saw a vision of the Republic being torn apart into the Empire, and the Jedi destroyed as a result of a plot by Sith. Krell wasn't the only one who had suspicions about the end of the war, but he ultimately knew no more about the Grand Plan than anyone else in the Order.
