September 2019 blooming update - Hurricane Dorian

This video has aged for me like a fine wine. Now that I've really gotten into Vandas, the depth of information about all the lineages of the plants is so interesting. I've also come to appreciate the breadth of variety Vandas offer. Initially all I cared about were the typical large-flowered mericlones.

You are doing an outstanding job of raising quality blooming orchids. If you go to Redland you must know Bob Fuchs of RF Orchids. If you ever get a chance to see his house you will be blown away by the orchids.

Excellent video! I’m recently got a Bangkok Beauty so still acclimating to my grow area before I risk pushing out to the edge of the sunlit arbor. The Coreulea cross is magnificent as is that large dusty rose colored Vanda you showed towards the end. Amazing tea rose color on those large blooms. Thankfully Doria has spared us and now I’m in the process of returning all my Vandas and other orchids to their former spots. Keep the videos coming!

Holy moly that is a lot of Vandas in bloom. And the Phal gigantea is gorgeous, I love that species, the huge pendant bloom display really does it for me. Great job on growing it!

Hello Stu! The tessellata (sp?) and renanthera are particularly eye-catching to me. Definitely going on my list. Thanks for the hurricane tips on the other video. Looks like Dorian is moving north of me now (Palm Beach County). Barely a drizzle over here. Vandas did fine in the garage and I actually got two plants to spike, exactly as you said. I know you're still somewhat in an uncertain area as of yet, so stay safe! Unbelievable your shade house survived so many hurricanes. Hope I'm just as lucky.

Hi Stewart amazing collection of vandas. Keep safe from Dorian praying all goes well. Needs some advise. I have a vanda were the leaves are wrinkled/shriveled no matter how well I water it and give it nutrients also the blooms are in bad shape. Any tips on how to take care of the shrivel leafs? Thank you in advance.

Thank you fo your wisdom. I am interested in knowing what your fungicide routine is. I am a new Vanda collector (12 so far from Motes and Ban Jong) and could use a any advice on growing these beautiful orchids in South Florida.

Fungicides are a tricky topic as everybody has their own opinion of course LOL. I can only share what has worked for me. Please be on the lookout for a future video. If you are on Facebook, please join the group International Vanda Orchid Club and you can ask questions and learn a lot

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Stuart ! Question: I'm TRYING to locate a specific Vanda that was registered way back in 1901. Vanda Emma Van Deventer "Flamingo". So far no luck :( If you can locate a clone of this Beautiful cross, I'll pay a reasonable finder's fee :)

Stuart, Do you use Seaweed extract or recommend using it for making a difference to the plant.

If your plant is struggling to produce Roots then yes . I use it regularly regardless however with great results. There is a liquid form or a powdered form which you can use as an additive to your fertilizer regimen. I specifically use a product called maxicrop

I do occasionally yes. Sometimes I have sales at my Nursery and other times either on my online online shop or eBay
