Welcome to my first video of 2022 and my second Review of Septieme Largeur!
Today I will be reviewing the Joffre (pronounced Zofr) Adelaide Oxfords in the M098 Brown Marble Patina that is available through their Studio Patina.
Septieme Largeur provided this pair and shoe trees to no cost to me, however there was no monetary compensation and the links to their website contain NO affiliate links.
Joffre was the name of Mathieu Preiss's Grand Father but also his middle name. Mathieu for those unaware is the co-founder of Septieme Largeur.
It is a very elegant, 6 eyelet Adelaide Oxford on the 199 almond last which runs half a size narrower than usual. I field tested it a couple times already and the fit was excellent on my foot which was surprising given that I walked quite a bit during the first wear (usually not recommended).
I should also say that I made a mistake and the shoe trees are not cedar (I should have noticed, they don't have the usual reddish tint) but beech wood.
Let me know if the pricing I mentioned was wrong as I was unable to find a good answer by browsing from Europe.

great shoes in deed, how does the oxford fit after a few wears, I also have a pair of saddle oxford in their 199 last, and their tobar triple monk boots in their 174 last, I ordered them in the same size, and I can confirm that 199 last is more narrow than the 174, however I do noticed that the crust leather is very soft, after leaving the shoe trees from my other comfortable pairs in for a few days, the oxford has been stretched quite nicely. perhaps keeping the same size as 174 is also possible, when the tightness is not at the toe box, which never stretches

I would not bet on that as you can really damage your foot from the pressure when it’s too tight. I would still recommend half a size difference between those two but always ask for advice and take each case individually!

just read your piece on best brands in 2021, great writing, thank you. Would you agree Septieme Largeur is a good, if not the best bet for €275/$300? I've had it with €200 shoes, the Myrqvists and Meermins of the world, Myrqvist might be Tuy leather but not a particularly high grade and Meermins are just too much of a hassle to break in. I'd probably go for Meciarello Legate in black box calf if it weren't for the ridiculous lead time but at $300 the SL Alexandre look like they aren't cutting too many corners, the leather looks better than what Myrqvist or Meermin are using, nice leather sole, what's not to like?

I now have two pairs of SL shoes. They are pretty good. Are they the best? I doubt anyone can say that in this price category. Are they pretty good? Yes. If that’s your budget Carlos santos and 7L are my go to picks.

Of course, even though they are more muted worn than separate. They do come in black or chocolate brown so there’s that option too. For me it’s not to showcase something different and the quality of the work! I enjoy them very much and they fit exceptionally well.
