Zé do caixão, Zumbi, Lampiao. One of them a character in a Brazilian movie, the other two historical figures. Zumbi was a leader of the largest slave uprisinng in Brazis and Lampiao was a rebel/bandit in Northeastern Brazil. But yeah, the sounds these names make are pretty awesome.

Rotting Christ often mix traditional and even ancient Greek elements in their music, but mostly in the instruments and the timings etc. I think they'd be right up your alley though. ROTTING CHRIST - (Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy) (just search for it on youtube like that) is one good example, mixing Greek and English lyrics too.

I recommend checking out DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER. It’s a band from Germany that also likes to implement tribal elements in lots of songs. Also vocally the singer is pretty versatile. Might be really interesting for you. Greetings from Germany.

OK, Mark, there's Angra, also from Brazil, power metal with native as well as classical influence. There's Eluveitie (said Helvetie) is a mix of metal with screams and celtic music. There's Arkona, a mix of metal with screams and traditional slavic music. There's Rhapsody of Fire, power metal with a ton of italian baroque influence. A splinter called Luca Turilli's Rhapsody is a metal fusion project that mixes metal, classical, electronica, oriental and even plainchant. Want links?

@JoaoSergio7
@JoaoSergio7 2 жыл бұрын
Well, this album (Roots) is kind of a mess in several senses. Sepultura was going through all sorts of issues, including what we could call an indentity crysis. The band spent 3 days partaking in the life of a native tribe from the central part of Brazil, called Xavante. There they recorded the ceremony featured in the track "Itsári", some elements performed by the natives in other songs and generally gathered inspiration for the album. The "traditional brazilian music" part of it, at least in this song (Ratamahatta) is a mix of some Xavante music and a new genre of brazilian music at the time called manguebeat. I would not call any of these kinds of sounds "traditional" in the sense of being a widespread part of brazilian culture, actually they are quite the contrary. Most indigenous tribes in Brazil are very secluded both geographically and culturally speaking (even a lot of their languages and dialects are not completely understood still today, and have nothing to do with portuguese), so we have a wide variety of bits and pieces of their cultures that were incorporated in our general culture throughout the years, but generally speaking our native tribes and their cultures remain enigmatic and hazy. There is not a lot to be drawn from this album in terms of brazilian culture, certainly not lyrically at least. Ratamahatta, for example, is a made up word, kind of a portmanteau of "Rats of Manhattan". Carlinhos Brown (a very famous musician and artist here in Brazil, he is the one with the clean voice you hear featured in this song), who co-composed this song together with Sepultura, allegedly saw a bunch of rats in the streets when he was visiting New York, then he came up with the title along with most of this song's lyrics, that mostly don't make sense. I totally understand the impact Roots had back in the day, and the role of spreading a bit of "deep brazilian culture" to the world, even to brazilians themselves, but generally speaking Roots is just not a very good album. I would recommend Sepultura's previous album Chaos AD a lot more than this one if you want to hear some brazilian music mixed with metal in a more cohesive way, and early Soulfy if you want to hear more of the enraged tribal stuff. Now if you want to go deeper into brazilian folk and indigenous music, there is a band called Arandu Arakuaa, their songs are entirely sang in Tupi-Guarani, the tongue of a branch of several native tribes from Brazil.

Quite many metal bands mix their cultural music with metal, it's called Folk Metal. Folk Black metal is quite a common thing (I love it!), but also many other metal genres are used for the mix. I'd say the Sepultura album Roots is a nu-metal/folk metal mix. Here's a list of some great folk metal bands from different countries and thus different cultural elements on a varying degree. Some of these have been active for decades so some albums might have stronger folk influence than the others: Skyforger (Latvia) Eluveitie (Switzerland) Nokturnal Mortum (Ukraine) - I recommend "The Voice of Steel" album Ensiferum (Finland) Wintersun (Finland) Moonsorrow (Finland) Metsatöll (Estonia) Cemican (Mexico) Windir (Norway) Týr (Faroe Islands) Heidevolk (Netherlands) Cruachan (Ireland) Primordial (Ireland) Orphaned Land (Israel) Melechesh (Israel)

Since you asked for a Portuguese metal band singing in Portuguese. I recommend MARTELO NEGRO - Culto Hermetico (Lyric Video). Take in mind this video may be blocked or something because of the word, after MARTELO, that in Portuguese is not the racist term but the internet does not take that in mind.

Brujeria. Mexican drug cartel/witchcraft metal. Members from Faith No More, Fear Factory, Napalm Death, Cradle of Filth and many more. Not exactly traditional music per se but I think you'll like it.

Bloddywood from India has recently released a new song which reminded me of this classic song from Sepultura.

Proceed directly to “Lookaway” from the same album, post haste. Less Portuguese influence, unfortunately, but that’s replaced directly with the addition of Mike Patton and Jonathan Davis. Get on it.

Uma banda de metal que canta em português é o "gangrena gasosa" mistura metal com temática religiosa de matriz africana . Provavelmente você não irá ler esse comentário, mas está aqui minha recomendação. Abraços l.

Just look up Russian, Irish, Japanese metal bands. They are all over the place. Check out the Russian band Babooshka. Also, check out Voodoo priest. 😊

Hey mark, other Brazilian bands i'd recommend are Crypta (Music Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKe8n2drhcuXmbs and a live one kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKi3iap7h7plprM), death metal with woman vocalist and Krisium (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3zKaKJ9ndtqb6c), one of the biggest Brazilian band on the extreme metal scene

Just saying: this song comes from a very divisive album in their career, so unless people are looking for something very specific (like this or Roots), I would never recommend a reaction video using that. It's not a good "portrait" of Sepultura. More or less like react to Metallica's "St.Anger".

Great reaction BUT - this song features vocals from Sepultura's Max Cavalera but also a ton of vocals from brazilian artist Carlinhos Brown (who was the session musician responsible for most of the tribal instrumentation in the album). I believe the title track of the album, Roots, would give you more of Max to work with.
