Thank you! I enjoyed watching the video. Just want to clarify that the classical Reformed position is that justification flows out of our union with Christ. Theosis is salvation and there is none without it. Through this union we receive a double Justification. One is infused the other imputed. The traditional view isn't an arbitrary justification. You have to have both present for salvation. One way to view it is as a matrimony. The two become one. The wife through imputation (which isn't arbitrary) becomes part of the family, but then there also has to be an infusion that has to be lived out. Both of these characteristics comes by being untited to the husband. I actually agree with a lot of what was said in the video. This doctrine is often called dual grace or dual benefit. "Justification and sanctification, gifts of grace, go together as if tied by an inseparable bond, so that if anyone tries to separate them, he is, in a sense, tearing Christ to pieces. Sanctification doesn’t just flow from justification, so that one produces the other. Both come from the same Source. Christ justifies no one whom He does not also sanctify. By virtue of our union with Christ, He bestows both gifts, the one never without the other." Calvin’s Commentary on 1 Corinthians 1:30, Volume XX, Baker, 1993, p. 93.

Nice to see a reformed Christian here. From my perspective, you're analogy to marriage is missing a step. "The TWO become one." What Two? Where do they come from? In my view, the two, first came into existence, and then later became joined. Initial justification is the legal part. It is the adoption covenant. God does it without any prompting or reason -at least nothing given by the adoptee. That sets up the inheritance, which comes with (part 2) the down-payment of the Holy Spirit. God infuses us with the Holy Spirit as part of this adoption covenant, Baptism. Now, the two are one. God has a child who is infused with Himself. This indwelling of the Holy Spirit gives us the grace that we need for a lifetime of faithfulness. It is a gift. It can be received and nurtured to bear fruit, or rejected. If this temple of your own body is left desolate by your willful abomination of replacing it with your own idols, then you are no longer sanctified/justified. God has prepared a place for you. You have an inheritance, but you've chosen to live elsewhere. Final justification is the final verdict and will be pronounced by the judge on judgement day. Therefore, nobody who is still living is "saved," in the sense that his eternity with God has been determined by himself. As Paul said, the Red Sea was a symbol of Baptism, (not the other way around.) The crossing of the sea made the Israelite's God's people instead of Pharaoh's. They were permanently justified/adopted The next 40 years was their period of what you might call "sanctification." This was when the presence of the Holy Spirit led them, (if they followed) to the promised land. Then final judgement happened at the Jordan river. Now, how wrong would they have been if they had thought that the initial justification, sea crossing, was their GUARANTEE of landing in the promised land?

"But let us not forget that the spiritual life is something that's unified. If you analyze it -- breaking it down into its various parts -- you'll destroy it. If I dissect you in order to understand the workings of your body, I'll already have made a mess of you. You'll be dead. And in a certain way we're now dissecting and destroying the spiritual life. The spiritual life is an experience: nothing more. It is participation in the Holy Spirit. The moment we place it under a microscope, we reduce it to unintelligible fragments. Imagine if I were to put you under a magnifying glass to see what you were made of. How different you would seem! Gone would be your beauty, gone your value. Everything would be gone. I'd be looking at cells, blood, nerve fibers, something entirely different. You wouldn't be what I now see before me with my own eyes." -Archimandrite Amilianos of Simonopetra from "The Way of the Spirit"

The key point of Sola Fide is that we are not saved because we are worthy - we are saved because we are unworthy. Otherwise, we wouldnt need to be saved!
@Seraphim-Hamilton2 ай бұрын
We agree that we are not worthy of our salvation either. But there are models besides imputed justification which address this in different ways.

The original greek translation of faith is "pistis". "When the word pistis is used in relation to Jesus “the Christ,” that is, Jesus the Anointed One, Jesus the Messiah, Jesus the King-then pistis often conveys the meaning of allegiance or loyalty" (wernermischke). That is the whole reason why Ephesians says that faith without works is dead. You cannot have allegiance or loyalty to something if you do not work towards it. Otherwise, the "faith alone" verses would be contradicting with the Ephesians verses.

Why is it that Orthodox have communion once a week, but Catholics have it daily given that the Lords prayer speaks of daily bread? Any clarification is appreciated

Orthodox priests are not required to be celibate. Technically, Roman Catholic priests aren't either, as it is not a doctrine. A priest can't take communion without abstaining from sexual relations the day before, and for a married priest this would pose problems. You may find the Divine Liturgy celebrated daily in monasteries, though, I assume.

It seems to me justification has to do with God's grace forgiving our injustices we commit as we try to be just. Sanctification has to do with the soul becoming virtuous instead of vicious and spiritual instead of fleshly. Grace is accessed by faith in that grace, by being faithful to Christ who bestows the grace, by forgiving in return, by being gracious in return. These are spiritual virtues themselves. Likewise, growth in virtue and in spirit are themselves possible by grace. So, justification and sanctification are a continuum.

Luke 10…..The Good Samaritan Hope it blows you away with it’s simplicity like it recently did me…. Oh yeah, it’s Love God with all heart mind soul and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Sure, but what does it mean to love God and neighbor? Even the Episcopal "church" affirms that with all their heretical modernist tendencies. What makes your doctrine different from theirs? What's going to keep anyone from falling into error like they have?
@calebstone222 ай бұрын
@@sakamotosan1887 Love is a choice expressed by actions. You love God by obeying. If you believe that Jesus is the Christ son of God and choose his side I call you my brother. Paul called “heretical” churches brothers in his letters to them. Jesus saves and God judges. I’m more careful as I age with fighting my own side.
@Lurkingdolphin2 ай бұрын
He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD. Proverbs 17 refutes your conflating of the terms If justification is not legal /judicial this passage makes no sense . The law commanded you were to help your brother in righteousness so if justify just means transform God should have no problem with this for what does the scripture say Psalm 51 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. But if this word in the hithel form means legal as Paul clearly teaches Romans 8:33 Who shall bring any CHARGE against God’s elect? It is God who JUSTIFIES . Who is to CONDEMN ? Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us The passages makes sense as God doesn’t want magistrates to let the guilty get away with murder .
@Seraphim-Hamilton2 ай бұрын
How could you listen to this and conclude that I don't think justification is legal? That was the whole premise of the discussion, that's why I spent so much time talking about the nature of God's lawcourt!
@Jerônimo_de_Estridão2 ай бұрын
Justification is legal. But God's Court is his Temple/Palace, and not a law court from Geneve of the XVI century. The old testament pattern should be our guide for the legal issues/language of the Bible.
