As a Greek, I'm extremely proud to say that the eternal student, isn't just a mere and isolated stereotype of my country, but the most famous and representative one. You can't escape the Balkan curse: If you're born here, you have an innate tendency for laziness and procrastination.

Dude i have 3 friends that are in their 30ies still in college pretending they are students because they don't want to work some low end job for 600 eiros, its a Balkan syndrome...

@@Dotalol123 To be fair, it's actually a combination of many factors, let alone a Gen-Z phenomenon, also. Even in the West there is a huge amount of University students who either procrastinate like us, or they've graduated but they want to have experiences and start backpacking and traveling the world (we're extremely unlucky on this one as Balkaners) etc. I don't fully blame them, in such a destabilized and derailed world with no guarantees about the future, you ought to have some fun.

Brazilians talk about how weird European Portuguese is, but when I listen to both, I can safely say European Portuguese is not only more intelligible, it sounds way nicer 😭😭😭😭😭😭 And I spent two weeks in Portugal, and I also live in a heavily Brazilian area of my state in the U.S., sooooo..

@@KartingRules i speak european portuguese myself, we joke about this a lot. But in reality portugal and brazil have a lot of different accents. But generally yeah brazilian portuguese is more slow and wavy, i understand why most people like it. I still like the european version better , i think that it shines on variability , you can say one thing in various different ways, i don't mean like synonyms, the way you arrange the sentences and the conjugation of the verbs are varied, the grammar is a bit more complicated so i think it's one of those languages that you need to speak well to just appreciate the good parts. I totally understand foreigners liking the brazilian version tho, i guess it's softer on the ear.

Whenever I think about the accents in this lovely part of the globe, I always wonder what a conversation between a person from Vranje and a person from Zagorje would look like. The concept of Zona Zamfirova and Gruntovčani (yes, I'm that old) crossover is mindboggling as it is but that would be one hell of a conversation. Also, there is one of the most stereotypical Serbian stereotype missing: Promaja. And no, it's not the same as "draft" or "zug", this thing's more like a mythological supreme archenemy to a lot of people.

Bro, your content is absolute Gold! My family is from "Macedonia" (Bulgaria) but I`m born and raised in the U.S. I can see both the western and Balkan cultures´ innate characteristics. Your channel has to be the best on this topic by far. I`ve tried to appreciate Balkan women for example but find most of them repulsive and gawdy and exactly how you described. I also have a crazy Serbian friend who is obnoxious but entertaining and the life of the party. I live in Germany and sadly most of the Balkaners I meet here are of the BMW driving, wanna be gansta douschbag variety (including my friend). I know there are lots of decent people in the Balkans but unfortunately also many primitive ones. I usually don´t advertise my Balkan roots here because of the bad reputation they have. I visited Belgrade once and fortunately met some nice young professionals that spoke English and had a nice time with them. I feel like the pride of being Serbian (and in the Balkans in general) impinges their ability to evolve and progress to more contemporary standards. I have cousins who emmigrated to the U.S and quickly adapted to western standards. I can see their personal development in certain parts of their inner consciousness that may not have normally have been given much attention inside the balkan culture. If you´re ever in Germany and would like to have a coffee send me a message. When I visit Belgrade I´d like to meet you if you´re interested. Keep up the good work!

An Albanian colleague explained to me that 40,000 Serbs live in Albania, that there is a law denying Serbs the right to a Serbian name and surname, you can live in Albania as a Serb on the condition that you change or name or surname in Albanian. Yea, nicely thought out as a joke but you are not even aware of how close to the truth you actually are, or you would be only 50 years ago... sad story of my people... Before the breaking up of the Yugoslavia, Sarajevo used to be known as a second biggest serbian city (in terms of a serbian population/circa 200k) Zagreb used to have a strong, compact influental and pretty rich serbian community, that consisted more than a 10% of Zagrebs population in '20 (it got devestated durning the II WW). Pristina is a story of its own along side of Prizren( known as a "tsars" city. It has strong cultural and historical significance in our history, we Serbs have a greeting "next year in Prizren"that dates hundreds of years in the past, and its THE capital city of all of serbdom.) The last portion of serbian population was persecuted from these two most important cities of KiM, and southern serbian lands in general, in 2004. Knin on the other hand doesnt hold a significance as big as the fore mentioned cities but it used to be a strong bastion and regional center of orthodox Serbs in region of Krajina. Excuse my rusty english, hope that youll understand enough to get the message. It would be nice if you acctually read just a small part of history of us Serbs in these mentioned cities, cause you wouldnt regret it. Cheers!
