Context is important here. 06 was injury filled/not good for Serena. She lost to Bammer the week befor this match and Santangelo was the seeded player and had taken Serena to 3 sets before. This was a pretty hyped match at the time. This performance showed she could compete (in the context of this time) and win the tourney.

I love to watch WTA highlights from that time! Thanks for posting so many matches ;) Unfortunately, the exact score of the matches was often not displayed during this time. It would be so much better to know the exact score while watching the highlights. So you can only guess it.

Guys you know that Mara Santangelo since her retirement has become a godly woman and still on 2020 she goes on TV telling about her match against Serena at Wimbledon 2005 and how she lost that match due to kind of divine stigmata that made her feet bleeding during a break when she was leading the score... 15 years she's been telling this story and I heard it again few months ago on TV... UNBELIEVEBLE RIGHT? but it's true!!
