I remember seeing that match and the commentator said something about Serena being in imperious form and that at the level she was playing, she would definitely add one more slam to her tally of 13 or possibly 3 (since there were three slams left to go) more *by the end of the year* (that part got cut out, I just noticed). And she did add two more so he wasn’t quite wrong that way 😅

Yep... But you remember she was out for a while, then she and Venus seemed to be focusing on a life outside if tennis. They took a lot of flack when they seemed to slow with tennis for a short while. Many tennis pro's said she would never win another major, and then she made a comeback.

Serena during the first half of 2012 and Serena during the second half of 2012 were two COMPLETELY different players. That French Open loss seriously changed her for the better carrying on into 2013 until 2017. Of course she had the odd loss here and there during that timespan but she was mainly dominant and almost unbeatable having many long win streaks 💪👸🎾

Everyone goes through injuries in tennis. 2012 was a good year, but there were so many better ones- Henin’s 2003, 2006 and 2007, Hingis 1997, Seles 1991 and 1992, Steffi’s 1987-1990 and 1993-1996, not to mention so many of Evert and Navratilova’a seasons.
