Hey Becky, the first time I heard sergio mendes...I was six. My father was driving on the van Wyck expressway with me in the back seat listening to 93 WPAT and one of their songs came on. From that day on I was hooked and I mean hooked. At six you can imagine the kind of heckling I received from my friends. I didn't care. I've been in love with sergio and bossa nova in general ever since, and that was 1968. At 60 now and still can't get enough of it. You my dear have great taste in music. Peace and love.

Def Janis the second part of the song...if you are a true fan there voices are very different and distinct...Sergio used Janis a lot on Equinox
@johndipinto40843 жыл бұрын
@limeyleafsfan Janis Hansen actually did the solo lead vocal parts on The Look Of Love, which was on their next album Look Around and became their biggest single. Ironically, and unfortunately, by the time it was a radio hit she was out of the group - Mendes dismissed the entire original lineup after that album to form a brand new band, although Lani Hall ultimately returned to continue as the primary lead vocalist (I believe at Herb Alpert's request).
@johndipinto40843 жыл бұрын
@limeyleafsfan Actually I just discovered the existence of an album recorded in 1969 by a group called the Carnival, which was a vocal quartet formed by Janis Hansen and fellow ex-Brasil '66 member José Soares, who is the percussionist in this video. Despite being produced by Bones Howe, who was a heavy-hitter at the time, and having A-list session musicians playing on it, the album didn't do well and the group disbanded without recording a follow-up. Some of their songs are on KZbin - here's one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4bVhXyMj9qjaKs I really like their sound - sort of Brasil' 66-Meets-The-Fifth-Dimension, leaning a little more toward the latter. I'd love to get the CD but it seems like it's very hard to find now. I believe Hansen subsequently married and left the music business but eventually returned to doing music projects for herself. Sadly she passed away in 2017. You can find out more if you Google her, but beware: there is also an actress named Janis Hansen who was on the Odd Couple TV show in the 1970's, who is not the same person. :)
