I really hate to point out the obvious for people who have studied metallurgy, but it would be impossible for the piece of sheet metal to be annealed under the conditions that were shown. To be clear, a material that is annealed is a material that is at its lowest energy point, and therefore its softest. To start with, the sheet metal that they were forming was most likely mild steel, which would mean that it cannot be harded by methods of heat treating, because the carbon content is too low. When carbon is introduced into iron it causes the alloy material to become harder because the carbon will position itself interstitially between the iron atoms. It forms a structure that is physically harder and stronger than iron on its own. Heat treating, meaning that you heat a material up and quench it over different periods of time, depending on the outcome you are expecting have, will harden the material because it will lock, or freeze, the carbon atoms into their positions before they are allowed to reach their low-energy state. It was also mentioned that the sheet metal was work-hardened. So which is it; is it work hard and or is it annealed? To be clear work hardening occurs due to only two reasons; either increase in density, which is increased mass per volume of the material because of compression, or due to thermal heat treatment, as mentioned above, usually due to breakthrough in drilling or just high temperature treatment of the material during handling. In either case, none of the conditions required to produce annealing occurred. Thus, to say that it was annealed is completely inaccurate no matter what terms we are seeking that definition. It is, however, likely and almost certainly inevitable that work hardening occurred, due to the pounding of the material in an effort to shape it, but in that case every person in this show work-hardened their materials.

I subbed to Motor Trend back a few years ago. But it never would work right! If I'd try to watch 30 minutes of Roadkill it would take well over an hour of frustrating loading!!! I even tried to stop my subscription with no luck. So when the year was up I never renewed it. Since then MT has a lot more to offer. But I'm afraid it'd be the same ole mess as before. I'm not even wireless! Cable internet plugged directly into my laptop. With Suddenlink as my provider.

So i liked this show and like some of the other MT shows so i was considering signing up for the MT on demand app, BUT apparently there's not a direct MT app that works for samsung smart tv's. Only an app that i have to stream shows to my tv from another device??? Is this right??

I have just watched episode 2 where Frank and McKinlee got sent home, and I have had to find this video because I HAD to comment. That was so unfair. McKinlee tried to tell Frank that they were not supposed to add metal, but he knew best. He was not listening, and was full of excuses and totally deserved to be sent home, but McKinley didn't. Frank's only qualification is that he is world class at bitching, but unfortunately, not the right sort of bitching. I am hoping that they bring McKinley back later as some sort of wildcard. So far they have done pretty well IMO. I spent my working life as a toolmaker in the motor industry (Ford UK Product Development) and I know that sheet metal work is a black art. If you ever get selected to be on a future Kindig Bootcamp, you would do well to watch all of Ron Covell's videos because he is the master kzbin.infovideos

As I watch the boot camp series I realize this isn't happening..no skills being developed for specific Kindig ideas upon entering the shop. Most of the candidates wouldn't last a day in the real world. Its kinda of a downer watching one by one get eliminated. I'm surprised there's no auto tech graduates. I feel bad for Huhn candidate ( female). I don't think they can make the show team. Because you still have yo deal with Kevdogg the do nothing foreman. I don't think they last one year for whoever wins. The recruits not hood enough compared to "Shorty" from Texas Resurrection car show.
