Something that really helped me regarding playing stuff for viewers was to take the riff and play it over a click metronome… in the beginning, it will sound like you’re playing to the click track, and you’ll have to focus on playing in-time… after about 20-30min of focused practice, you’ll begin to feel like you’re playing “with” the click track and begin to really feel the groove of the riff. Once you can feel the groove, and the playing becomes jamming, you’ll be ready to flex in front of an audience. I found that the main thing holding me back was lack of confidence and not having “molded the groove” well enough to jam it live. Hope this makes sense, and helps!
