Would the iodine react to the trace sugar in the fruit juice?
@SeriousKeto8 күн бұрын
@@LeahHacklemanGood iodine shouldn't react to sugar, as sugar is not a starch (which maltodextrin is).
@ChrisBairKeto8 күн бұрын
I found a while ago that true lemon appears to have maltodextrin (or another similar starch) and many people have questioned if the reaction was due to the simple sugars in the juice or from the citric acid or some other factor. Here you go drive.google.com/file/d/1s3h9lE_naQ1Q7bji3mi-aPl1SjKAy7kp/view?usp=drive_link Straight lime juice, straight lemon juice, and true lemon. To get the same concentration in the true lemon I should have used a lot less water, it's roughly 1 packet = 1 lemon wedge which is about a teaspoon (19.7ml). I did 2 packets in 4oz (118ml) or roughly 6x the water I should have used. Regardless, there is some kind of starch in the true lemon and the reaction is NOT the low pH, it's not the citric acid, it's not the sugars. The ingredients label on the True Lemon says: "Crystallized Lemon [citric acid, lemon oil, lemon juice]." It does not list maltodextrin, and does not list a carrier agent or that anything else is added.
@shdwbnndbyyt8 күн бұрын
f you observe a color change when iodine is added to a sugar solution, it could indicate the presence of other substances, such as starch or polysaccharides, that can react with iodine. Thus I would expect that a flavoring that is essentially crystallized from a citrus fruit to possibly have some reaction with iodine... Have you tried lemon or lime concentrate?
@ChrisBairKeto8 күн бұрын
I tested lemon juice and lime juice at 6x the concentration compared to true lemon, neither changed color. It's not the acid and it's not the sugars.

As always, enjoyable. The Iodine test shows reaction with a host of polymers. This includes maltodextrin, starches, and even cellulose. Honestly, I was, without looking up the structure, surprised the Acacia gum fiber didn't register. I say this to point out that the Real Lemon and Lime most likely have a modest amount of naturally occurring starches that are triggering a response.

Glad I’ve been using Ultima Replenisher for years! The other thing people should look for is how much of the various electrolytes you are getting. I don’t want extra salt (that’s cheap and easy for me to add to food/drink on my own). Some of these other electrolyte drink powders are pretty pricey and actually have little to no magnesium or potassium in stem. They are mostly salt and calcium. Or they use forms of calcium that are not readily absorbed by the body, so they are useless. You can be essentially throwing money down the toilet.

@emmaleethompson7964 I can't say exactly how they do it but with SALTT the packaging machines are very thoroughly cleaned after each run and there are several machines going at a time with different flavors on each. The cleaning is thorough enough to make them safe to protect against food allergy cross contamination. I'd venture you are unlikely to have any maltodextrin in the unflavored version.

I use Re-Lyre Hydration…I’m not allergic, pre-diabetic female and would like to cut back or cut out maltodextrin as much as possible. 👍🏽I don’t have “straight” iodine, but have iodine with kelp…daily is dosage 1 drop…I didn’t see any color change with that dosage and type of iodine…but I’m realllly curious and will buy the regular iodine…Thanks a mil for all that you do for the betterment of people’s health 11/25/24-I haven’t brought the regular iodine yet, but did reach out to Redmonds Real Salt and asked about maltodextrin and how much is in their average serving. Reply was that there is a very small amount of maltodextrin in their electrolyte mix, but wouldn’t or couldn’t tell me the amount.🤷🏾♀️

Google Does Redmonds have Maltodextrin in electrolytes
@ImMonty3657 күн бұрын
@ I will, although Google isn’t always accurate and then I’m going straight to the source, since I know people that work at Redmond’s. They have a few flavors and the one I have, didn’t give me any indication that it may contain any form of maltodextrin. Thanks👍🏽

No matter how many brands I test, I'm going to miss some. Fortunately, now people know how to test on their own and share the results.

The product I use by Cal Vitality that has the magnesium powder. I will not stop taking it as it is great for perimenopause, helps with leg cramps, regulate bathroom if constipated a lot, reduce panic attacks & palipation and etc.However I will start using the original flavor vs the flavored one is all. My holistic practioner said it is okay in very small dosage. To muscle test it with your body is key. And with Calm Vitality, you only drink a small portion per day unlike with electrolytze drinks. I will finished out the bottle I have of 'raspberry flavor', and then I will switch out to the original flavor is all. The original flavor that is not sweetened taste like sour lemon. Not as delicious yet that is okay.

Thanks for testing these products. I tested Perfect Keto unflavored keto collagen and it turned very purple. It was an older product with Best Buy date of 12/2023. Once I stirred it the purple color went away so not sure what that means.

That's interesting. I don't see why there'd be maltodextrin in an unflavored product (since it's not needed as a "flavor carrier" for natural flavors), so it's possible that there is some other starch in there. Now I'm thinking I need to test my PK collagen when my order comes in.

@ Looking forward to a Perfect Keto update to see if you get the same results. Dr. Berg has my favorite electrolyte powder. It never turns purple plus it has the bonus of trace minerals. Thanks for all you do. Love your channel!
