The return of hospitality in luxury reminds me of the heyday of upscale department stores - a smart move to diversify sales/price point, get people in the door, create more brand definition, and increase luxury service standards. I am here for it 👏 Personally, going to stay away from dangly bits (i.e.charms) and keep hunting for vintage luxury treasures.

I think you have many valid predictions, who knows, but I do know this: Bernard Arnault, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers og François Pinault, so LMVH, L'oreal and Kering, has lost 70 billion dollars in 2024. That doesn't happen without serious changes or moves being made, so 2025 will be an interesting year for sure.

It amazes me how people are hyped up about the bag charms. Coach and Michael Kors have been doing bag charms for a couple of decades or more. Now that the luxury brands have caught on, it’s made to feel like it’s a new trend.

In luxury I think of it as more of a resurgence since the Fendi monsters , karlitos, Fendi bananas and Lv hardware charms of 2014-17 . We say eat the rich but the price tag makes it appear more acceptable to that higher tax bracket individual then it funnels down to the rest of us .

Luxury brands did bag charms first that’s why coach and mk started making them but then the trend was minimalism so they stopped because it was outdated. Trends come back around but everytime they do bag charms get popular again then die down.

Great video. I agree about the charms on the shoes especially because of the Adidas trend that was happening all over in 2024. It will be interesting to see the price leveling. Also, the idea of more brands working with the pre-loved market might help with the decline in sales that was previously talked about. Also, I’m really excited about the idea of brands changing to offer a bigger experience for the client coming into the store because it’s feel like it is a good marketing tool and I hope that some brands kinda get weird with it so that it offers a very unique experience. I also think that charms are going to be big as well, especially with the idea of more people buying pre-loved because it allows them to buy from the brand, but maybe at a lower price point.

I love the idea of merging dining and shopping, just as long as it is done right. Also proper on brand home goods, all of that. BUT DONE RIGHT. So far we really had sad attempts, except for a couple of Dior and Prada ventures. Like I do not need starbucks with LV slapped on it like they have at the airport, I want everything to be beautifully designeeeeed.

I find the hospitality take very interesting. Ralph Lauren in London has had a coffee shop attached to their store for years. So I feel some brands are really playing catch up. I wonder if they’re jumping on the band wagon due to some of the negative press they’ve received of late.

Happy New Year! I think your predictions are spot on. And to be fair, I like Sabato's designs at Gucci, but the pricing is completely ridiculous and drove me away from buying because I just don't think the products are worth that much. I recently looked at YSL and Ferragamo's websites and their prices are so much more reasonable; particularly for Ferragamo which has excellent quality. I agree the prices need to come back to reality if they want to be more profitable and get more clients in the door.

My prediction: shopping exuberance and luxury buying, like France "dancing on the edge of a volcano" in 1914, 1928, 1939 and Japan 1980s, will fuel a lot of discretionary spending in the next few months. Then there will be a pullback like 2009, "quiet luxury" houses with bespoke handmade brands and goods including couture will be either raising their prices or in some way get harder to source. "Pre-loved" market will be even stronger after the contraction, and there may be a lot of bargains if we can wait and keep our eyes peeled for the right prices

Sorry, but the charms remind me of Croc Jibitz... which was just pure kids' candy store upselling (and didn't take long for that trend to die a final death.) I've been ripping off tassels, key fobs, locks etc from my bags for decades... always thought the hanging crap looked stupid & just added unecessary weight. I do hang the stuff outside of the dustbag to help id which bag goes with it.
