Interesting. The missiles of this era are a Catch-22. They don't do much damage to a BB, though you have to fire them ASAP or risk them getting hit and blowing up. Can't save them and wait for a better target such as a lightly armored cruiser. Seems I read the WWII BB's used in Desert Storm were also almost immune to the Harpoon missiles of that time period.

Hard to tell exactly how much damage was done. Certainly little chance to pen the armor and get into the really juicy parts of the ship. But even so, I do believe we did significant damage to the superstructure. And a ship on fire will be much less capable of duelling it out…

By the way this making me think about a BC design to test wether it could run through a missile barrage with heavy armor and limited explody topside stuff.

I had a 40k ton battlecruiser set on fire, burn down and sink from a single missile hit in 1950. They can be deadly.

You were wondering which Rodney you hit, if you click the report that says ship hit, same with aircraft ordinance, it will show you which one

39:50 You sunk a CVL, though I sure don't even see one listed in the ships that took part in the battle. Must be a bug?

Yeah wondering about that as well. Maybe we misidentified some ship for a CVL? Although I normally would expect the class to be correct once displayed. At any rate, pretty odd.

@@SeriousStrategyGamer you can misidentify ships. I think its a bug that they dont get properly identified eventually. However, the ship that is on the world map is the correct one. So you saw a transport on the world map, but when you click on it it shows the misidentified ship.

Perfect identification happens below 10km in daylight and clear weather, and only possible visually. The post battle readout is omniscient and always correct. It is what gets imposed on the strategic level save file.

Can ya attack non-great powers like the Netherlands? IRL the Japanese wanted Indonesia for oil so they could establish autarky (economic self sufficiency)

Not directly (as you are only the chief of navy, not country leader) But sometimes events cause you to invade neutral territories (or colonies to rise up in rebellion). These can spiral out of control quickly.

I'm following the turn messages very closely. What a world you have. A Soviet CV Leningrad. Chinese's spies stealing Japanese tech. America having a jet called a Curtis Commando. All in early 1951. By Aug 1951 we see the 1st ship-to-ship missile attack I believe. Also the 1st air-to-ship missile attack by ground based jets? Then missile torpedoes and a delay in the construction of DD Usugumo due to a Steel shortage. Great episode. And a surprise, Night Fighters. 🦈
