My son wasn't into music when he was younger, and his father and I are very into music. We both have very eclectic taste. Our son is 17 now and has developed his own music taste. He has recently gotten into SOAD among other bands I absolutely love and I was thrilled. I love that we can now bond over a shared love of music. It has come full circle I listened to Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin etc with my parents. Now I can share SOAD, Megadeth, Metallica and more with my son.

this is why SOAD will stay my fav metal band forever. ive loved them since middleschool and now that im a grown up, talking to other metalheads, they sort of always scowl when i mention SOAD, like theyre just a teen phase for most people and i find it sad because the inherent whimsy and freshness of the music never gets old to me, that spark will never go out. not to mention that even at their silliest, SOAD have managed to address serious topics that are important to them with the severity they are owed. striking that balance is pure genius, there will never be a band that can reach their level. the people who get it, get it!

Serj and SOAD are responsible for opening my eyes to injustice and political corruption as a teenager. I remember being 15 in 1998, playing PLUCK to my English class as part of an assignment on analysing the meaning in our favourite music. I stood up and talked about the Armenian genocide and my English teacher was amazed to see a new generation learning about politics from their music. I've never looked back since. At 41 I'm a commited anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian, non-conforming pacifist. I think all of that was inside me anyway but I am so grateful to SOAD for showing me that it was possible to go against the grain. Plus they gave me so many happy teenage memories!

When i read the first 2 paragraphs, i was gonna write "but be careful ! things really have changed since back then, culture is not the same, problems are not the same" And then you write you are an anti-capitalist and "non conforming" and thought ... they got you man. Capitalism is not the problem nowadays, being "conforming" is not the problem nowadays. But you have to look into this for yourself. Read history, compare it to nowadays, go talk to people on the street and on internet discords, subreddits etc... You have to do it by yourself, good luck !

@@Sub4-k7u Right? You had the perfect response to that comment. Give me a fucking break....😂 Capitalism isn't the problem.... it's only the root of every single injustice in America and has been from its inception.... But nah, no problem here. 🤦🏻♀️

Toxicity got me through being in a pro-Bush small town in Ohio that bought every single obvious lie that administration fed us following 9/11 and going into the start of the ridiculous Iraq war. I was 14 when 9/11 happened and I had a roommate/best friend who was a big System fan so he got Toxicity a few days after it came out and when I was sick to death of watching grown ass people fall for lies that, to me, were obviously lies, I would put on Toxicity. It genuinely helped me fight the gaslighting that was going on en masse from our government through the media because it often felt like "Hell, maybe I am the crazy one ..." but then Prison Song would come on and I would be reassured that no, I am not crazy ... this system is broken, the government is corrupt, and billionaires are running the show. I will always be so damn grateful for Toxicity, Steal This Album, and Hypnotize/Mezmorize for reinforcing my Progressive ideals when it was not popular to dare to point out how fucked up America is. Lol

I listen very often to podcasts, some of them biggest names around who invite smartest, very well spoken people who are specialist in certain fields with great stories and checking that interview just WOOOW 0_0.... I never listen any talks with Serj, don't know much about a guy, listen SoaD rarely. I'm simply blow away by these man - his aura, kindness, wisdom understanding and tolerance for others especially with those tough subjects like 9/11 or Armenian Genocide. He's a rare kind of human being that stuns you with its presence. There're few rare individuals like that, one that comes to my mind qucikly is Peter "Flea" Balzary from RHCP

"My kid's not into music, it's very disappointing." Yikes, hope that was a joke from the interviewer. Right after Serj was talking about how he wasn't pushing music on his kid.
