I have been on and off of seroquel for decades. I have bipolar 2 disorder, hypothyroidism, complex PTSD, essential tremors, heart palpitations and freaking menopausal symptoms. It’s the only drug that works for me. Several years ago my menopausal state made me an interminable insomniac. I was sleep deprived for 5 nights in a row. Lemme tell ya, it was like POW camp torturing. They blast heavy metal music 24/7 until the prisoner confesses everything. You will do anything by day 5 to get some zzz’s. My mind turned against me and I went on a trip all over the United States. I had a voice in my head compelling me to hit the road. It also told me that I was going to die soon. I did become suicidal. I truly believed the horror unfolding in my mind. And acted accordingly. I went from psych hospital to psych hospital. They even tried electric shock therapy. Didn’t work. Lithium didn’t work. Risperidone nor Olanzapine worked. It takes years to hit upon the right cocktail of meds. At 60 I’m finally properly medicated. And, for the most part I’m med compliant. I do take extra seroquel when needed. But I have the luxury of having an extra dose daily of 150mg. I take 400mg at night. I also take mirtazapine, lamictal, klonipin, propranolol, levothyroxine and estradiol. I’m an endocrinological nightmare. Hormones killed me and seroquel revived me.

I can relate to your story my friend. I am 65 and a few years ago I developed racing thoughts and was unable to sleep. I actually committed myself to the psych ward. Long stiry short...A psych Dr put me on Seroquel. Ive been on it a couple of years now but unforrunately it seems like it's not working as well during the day as it used to.

Seroquel worsens thyroid function and with diminished thyroid function you will never feel well. Not to mention high cholestrol and diabetes that this drug causes. It is a nightmare for the endocrine system.

I started lactating and lost my period and was incredibly itchy. It turned out that the tiny dose I took for sleep gave me a pituitary gland tumour that gave me menopause at 30, the endocrinologist said I had the hormones of an 80 year old. I had to take Dostinex to shrink the tumour and spent every weekend in bed throwing up from it. The first time I took seroquel I fainted in the shower, I was 22 and I phoned the doctor saying I don’t want to take this stuff. She told me I had to so I did what she said. She also put me on Effexor 150 and that eventually gave me seizures. Then Lexapro and that gave me seizures too. I now take a tiny dose of CBD and feel great and I sleep

I was put on Seroquel for an anxiety and depression disorder and loved it and then 6 months later i was diagnosed as Diabetic2 which surprised me as i was fairy fit and ate a good diet . I was told i would be diabetic for life but just 6 months later my bloods were normal . the difference ? I came of Seroquel and discussed this with my doctor who seemed unaware of the link to high blood sugar .

For me, that wasny that hard to come - I came ofc that cold turkey. BUT that was only because i was on two other different meds at the time so that cushioned my fall. I have tapered completely from 10mg of lexapro, so not taking that at all now and tapered from 45mg mirtazapine down to 1.5mg and will taper off that completely over the next 6 months to 1 year. For anyone tapering, a hyperbolic taper is best using a liquid suspension, which I make up myself every week. Anyone in this position has my full respect and empathy and I wish all the best

I take it for anxiety and it does mean I don't go experience any insomnia. But the downside is I need it to to sleep. If I don't take it I can't sleep. So if you're taking it for insomnia, you'll be taking it for life, changing to another med or getting your insomnia back when you come off it.

I take 50mg quetiapine at night. I just started taking it two days ago from coming off of 400mg of Abilify which gave me unbearable side effects. Due to me being a mail carrier with bipolar type 1 , I find quetiapine with a 50 mg dosage bearable thus far. I do feel the changes in my mood when I’m upset as a numb feeling which it’s okay. I’m not dreadful when I wake up as they say it could be but I’m guessing it depends on the dosage. I’m my opinion, dosage matter and the only reason I was having psychosis due to marijuana Usage in the past and it comes every 2 years. So I’m testing out sobriety for my own sake with a plant base diet and staying active . I feel so much better knowing that I can talk with my doctor about my health issues and benefits so we can determine what’s best for me. Be transparent about side effects, I can’t imagine being on multiple medications and living years with side effects, that’s how people give up 😢. Everyone be safe on their mental health journey

Very informative video and it actually explained some symptoms i have that i didn't know could be related to the seroquel. For example i have high blood pressure and last summer i was admitted to the ICU twice with a hypertensive crisis. The hospitalist thought i might have a kidney issue, so i had to get a kidney workup. No kidney issues, and no closer to an answer as to what is causing the hypertensive issues. Also, despite my high blood pressure sometimes i get the orthostatic hypotension also. I am 39 years old!

I'm on 100mg. It made my hands shaky at first, but that went away after a day. The other big thing I noticed is that I got a reasonable attention span back and could concentrate again, which was amazing and later on I noticed that I slept well every night, which with mental illness was not normal. I haven't had issues with weight gain, emotionality I'm a bit blunted and weirdly I stopped writing my diary as much or in as much detail as I have for years when I was in hospital, which was when I was put on quetiapine, but I'm was also put on venlafaxine around the same time. Oh wow I'm watching much more videos from this channel. This is very well done! I keep getting recommended seroquel videos after googling it. I've tried to look up medications before. But this video was very uniquely informative. Really really excellent, more thorough than any videos I've seen of this type. I took seroquel for a month and went off instead of refilling. Felt like I drank 3 drinks before bed, then hungover the next day - the hypnotic state. After a few weeks I felt it didn't put me to sleep as well so I stopped rather than increasing it. After making others changes too.

Thank you for this informative video.👍 I have a couple questions. 1. How hard is Quetiapine to withdraw from compared to other antipsychotics? 2. When withdrawing from Quetiapine Immediate Release, is it a good idea to take it in two doses (morning and evening) to avoid inter-dose withdrawal symptoms due to its short half life? 3. What are your thoughts on prescribing low-dose Quetiapine off-label for insomnia? Would you say it is overkill to prescribe a drug that affects so many neurotransmitter systems when the main effect you are looking for is histamine antagonism to help with sleep? An old antihistamine like doxylamine might do the job just as well, and with fewer side effects. I'm not asking for medical advice, just your personal opinion.

Invaluable for me for mood stabilising...I have found it treats my c-ptsd as well as Bipolar 2. Many of my friends have found it very good for C-PTSD alone. Some issues with dissociation at lower doses in the beginning and can trigger body based flashbacks as feeling hypnotic can trigger that so for folks with DID they need to be aware and monitored while building a new normal feeling in the body, and as it makes you sleepy it can make DID folks want to avoid sleep or taking meds as systems that have heavy nocturnal switching will be affected by changes to that routine but once tolerated helped immensely especially due to its versatility and not having to be on med Mary go round with new symptoms that pop up. Personally find it helps reduce orafractory and visual flashbacks that have an element of hallucination to them which can be confused with psychosis to the untrained eye and because of this its worth being under the supervision of a psychiatrist rather than a GP for maintenance for those who suffer hallucination flashbacks to avoid being on an unnecessarily high dose.

I have bipolar 1 and pretty bad anxiety so sleep is very elusive to me, and seroquel not only has treated my insomnia and let me get a good 8+ hours of sleep, it helps regulate my bipolar. I don’t have very many episodes of mania or severe depression but maybe 2 times a year. The ONLY side effect I’ve had is that is affects my ability to regulate body temperature so I can become overheated very easily and feel like I’m going to faint if I overdo it physically. Taking all that into consideration the benefits that I receive from the medication absolutely outweighs the one side effect I have. I have also tried rexulti and Abilify but had terrible weight gain and cravings. So seroquel has been a game changer for me that treats SO many symptoms I was experiencing. 10/10 would recommend for anyone with bipolar 1, moderate to severe anxiety, and insomnia.

My son was taking 400mg of Quetiapine and 50mg of Haloperidol. We took him down to 2mg of Haloperidol for about a year or so; then, we just recently started reducing the Quetiapine to 375mg bc he's tired of how it makes him feel. It is the gentler of anti-psychotics but I wouldn't recommend any meds if possible. Try "neurtro-ceuticals" to help if at all possible. He has Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) so the Quetiapine helps with that. But when we reduced just 25mg his hyperthyroid numbers got worse. I just wish that all doctors would tell you everything up front and take it a little slower. I've had to be his doctor and do titrating and everything. He gained 40lbs in about 2 months and it has been challenging to try to lose it. His bloodwork shows almost all the "rare/dangerous" symptoms. He's been on it for about 3 1/2 years and just dropping 25mg causes Akathisia and some psychosis to return. He's only 24. Very thorough and informative video btw.

Can you discuss how to get a person with psychosis to take medication if they are unaware they have a problem? I’ve heard that you shouldn’t play into the delusions but could a way to get them to take medication, tell them it will help with the voices? Thank you for your wealth of knowledge and I’m also curious from the listeners what has helped them to seek medication while experiencing the symptoms. Thank you everyone.

Seroquel had some pretty nasty effects on me, I was started on 100 mg but opted to decrease my dose to 50 mg because I experienced heavy sedation which was super debilitating, on top of the sedation I also experiences extreme congestion is my nose, it was so bad I couldnonly breath through my mouth and my eyes and mouth were also very dry. I got sick of all of the side effects and ended up coming off of Seroquel cold turkey

My 26 year old son in Autism spectrum high functioning began Quetiapine Mylan 150mg extended release 2 weeks ago 03 July 2023 1 tablet at night unfortunately a week later he had epileptic seizure so now Neurologist has added 1tablet Epanutin 100mg day and night. Yesterday he had on forehead a swell and around eyes with swell and red color so I took him to Emergency and they prescribed Xozal 5 mg for allergy .. Has anyone same experience? Note: For first time in his life he started meds 22 December 2022 with Risperdone genesome Rispelen 0.5 mg day for a month 1 mg day and later 1mg morning and 1 mg at afternoon /or night was added.. was doing well up to April 2023 but when Psychiatrist decided to subtract 0.5mg the afternoon/or night tablet he started after a week suddenly getting irrated and impulsive behaviors! So I changed Psychiatrist and new Dr. decided to gradually remove Rispelen and added 2 tabletsx50mg Megazon extended release (Quetiapine genesome) 27 May until 2 July. 3 July he stayed with only 1 tablet Quetiapine 150mg Mylan extended release at night and a week later he had epileptic seizure suddenly! Can somebody relate similar experience?

Indeed, I find it hard to wrap my mind around being on such a high dose and that is exactly what my therapist wants. I was prescribed 50mg SR for trigger and intrusive thoughts and it does the job as far as I am concerned. I also have a bunch of side effects. I lost my libido. I find it difficult to read an article because I lose interest along the way. It is basically the short term memory that is the issue because by the time I have read a minute worth of material I kind of lose the thread. Now if I was put on 300mg that would equal to X6 this dose. I have no idea what that would do to me?! Albeit I have seen people at the clinic function quite well on it.

I just started 25 mg last night. I have cerebral palsy, and ADHD, and anxiety. I can definitely not imagine somebody on a higher dose. Lol. I asked my doctor if she could start me on 25 mg, because I am really having trouble sleeping. My husband takes 50 mg for sleep. He used to take 25 for sleep, however, he was on 25 for about 10 years. It had stopped working sleep-wise for him, so his doctor upped it to 50. And I also know someone that is on 600 mg of it! But it really helps him and he does act calm and level-headed when he's on the 600 dose.

I could use some extra weight so that's ok but I'm worried it will change my personality. We'll see. The doctor met me for five minutes then gave me Three bottles of pills. I don't know if I want to change myself but if will help me not be so spontaneous and moving around constantly.
