Up until the 2000s the potential diplomatic consequences of messing around with a westerner were still meaning something. To be fair, I wouldn't have put all my money on it anyway but, still, it was a different dynamic. Not anymore. It became an established hyper power since then, among other things.

What about rich woman's who have poor butler's? Isn't it the same thing or they are really different? I ask because I saw a German documentary about the Gen Z in China and there was a handsome Guy who studied finance and couldn't find a Job but then he worked for a rich woman and had to do everything for her. They said he should walk with her dog, buy breakfast for her, drive her to her workplace etc. How could raping in such a world be prevented?

It's so painful, specially the girl who wanted to break up with her boyfriend because being raped is seen as bringing shame to the family instead of the fault of that monster. I felt like I was seeing some kind of historical play instead of something modern society would think. Every culture is unique, but I really hope misogyny stops in China and other asian countries. There are so many girls starting to speak up and I really hope that over time women stop being seen as f*ing objects.

Men need to realize that any form of intercourse transfers resonances ( DNA), meaning it works both ways. If we were pure, meaning no polarized value judgement resonance ( because our salt and water bodies retain everything ( learning), we would see more directly and as such realize that same sentience animals have, thus we would always in all ways, choose NO HARM. TO rape a woman is to rape the self - in other words. Time to wake up.

The mega wealthy founders are treated like deiries whenever they walk into the office. I've spent hundreds of nights with Chinese billionaires and senior government officials'making guanxi'. The practices at these frequent lavish events are quite often simply breathtaking. I'm Canadian-Asian and have worked in China for 3 years, in our company there were some affairs going on, but as the assistant to the CEO, I was basically untouchable inside the company. Our CEO is really a good person and he held a strict moral code, I even became friends with his daughters because we are around the same age. I witness people being fired from having extra marital affairs at work. That said, it didn't stop people from outside the company taking sexual advantage towards me. Harassments happened every now and then. I once has a manager from our supplier stalked me at the hotel after dinner at a conference and literally tried to force his way in. Luckily I'm not a typical small Asian and I was able to pushed him out of the door after he attempted to kiss me several times. I was 25 then and didn't really know how to report this since we didn't work in the same company. So yeah, these things happened.

My Step dad lived in China for 14 years and once he meets my mom somewhere else they decided to take a trip back to China to show my mom how he lived back in the days in china. they decided to eat at a fancy place where the royal family used to eat or something. We came from a poor family like most others so my parents treats the waitress well and since my dad speaks mandarin he ask alot of questions because my mom was curious of live in china to the waitress (my mom is a cultural nerd with a PHD under her belt and my dad was basically a translator for her) and the waitress cried because my parents where kind to her and friendly and apparently no other customer has ever been kind to her in this fancy restaurant. It's a shame people have to endure such threats to basic safety and well being. Well done for being prepared for the worst, and I trust you had the determination to not just carry the scissors but be prepared to use them without hesitation. A weapon is an equaliser in a pair of determined hands with the resolve to use deadly force: a risk and liability in less determined hands. I applaud your solution to the problem and add that your solution only will work if a person is determined to look after themselves. If a person is not willing to use a weapon, they shouldn't carry a weapon as it will be used against them but they equally should ask themself, why are they not willing to defend themself? A less lethal option for some situations is a high powered compact flashlight/torch, kept in the purse or pocket. But even with a flashlight/torch defence, the action of using the flashlight, pulling it out of a bag/pocket and shinning at a target/direction needs to be practised. Ideally, practised enough that the flashlight can be deployed without having to look at the flashlight so your eyes can remain on the threat.

Mao ze dong ruined my grandparents lives when he came into power. My grandma's family was stripped of their property and forced to live and work at a factory when she was young. Growing up, I thought he was a hero because of how much the Chinese government worshipped him but learning all the cruel and evil things he did from my family and from the internet just baffles me. How could such a horrible person be so respected? How could he, decades after his crimes, still be proclaimed as the leader and face of China? My uncle even has a poster of Mao in his house. I used to work as English teacher in China (in Shenzhen!) and I remember we had an advanced lesson about misogyny. I had an older male student in my class (about 50) who kept insisting that women were inferior to men and it was just so incredibly awkward as there were more women than men in that class. I also found it astonishing that he would just blatantly say that to his female teacher. But none of the other women in the class wanted to speak up and disagree with the guy. Even I found it difficult to shut him down because he's technically a "client" in the eyes of the school and I didn't want to get trouble with my boss by upsetting him.

@@alexwest2573 it was a language training center for adults, so there weren’t any grades. I did bring the situation up to my boss who was also foreign, but he had been living in China for much longer at that point and wasn’t surprised and said that in the end, I couldn’t win an argument with him because that’s what he was taught to believe. Honestly, I don’t necessarily blame the student, because he was actually a really nice and respectful student otherwise. He offered to take me out to expensive meals (not in a creepy way) multiple times, but I was very shy at the time and was worried I wouldn’t be able to maintain a conversation with him the whole time. When you live in China s a foreigner, you kind of learn to separate the person from the propaganda they’ve been taught, I think it helps to stave off a kind of cynicism about the whole thing

Free Spirit, I'm sorry you were harmed by pathetic, cowardly POS'S. Nobody should have to endure abuse. But I'd like to make sure I tell you that I'm proud of you. I'm proud of how strong you are for surviving through and past what's happened to you! For being strong enough to speak the words aloud for others to see. I know it's hard. I've never been to China. I'm from the USA. I'm a survivor, too. I've been through some crazy and rather traumatic situations also. (I've been told by many that my life would make one hell of a movie.) I really relate to you when you talked about some days that come up still can be pretty rough. I realize it's unsolicited advice, but I'm still going to provide it. Hopefully it'll help give you some measure of the power back that was taken from you. Even better if anyone else who's out there surviving just like you and I can read this comment and possibly use at least some of this advice, and it can help them on their path with healing, too. This has not only helped me in healing, but it's given me a semblance of peace and has literally helped me save myself from a random attacker was me deciding that I was fed the F**k up with having PTSD flashbacks. Tired of feeling unsafe just trying to live an average everyday "normal life." It would make this long comment a lot longer than this response will already be than if I included the full story of my own "final straw moment " of what pushed me to take more proactive measures into ensuring my own safety. I began doing extensive research and found a ruthless, highly effective martial art that many people hadn't heard even heard of. I didn't have any previous experience unless you count the fairly savage fights between my older sister and I growing up. I wanted something that could work for anyone, at any age that didn't need you to have any previous martial arts, and you didn't have to be a fitness buff, hulked out and worked for petite short women. Something that would teach me how to be utterly ruthless and teach me how to handle a variety of scenarios. This worked for me even though I've always been an asthmatic. It taught me how to fight multiple opponents at once, even with my eyes closed. Sometimes, they had training knives, bo staff (long sticks), etc. How to handle it when being grabbed from behind, being choked. Dealing with the fights that went to the ground. How to defend yourself in confined spaces, how to deal with an attacker if they're coming at you while you're sitting in an office chair. Plus, dealing with attacks revolving all around and even if they're inside your car hiding in your back seat. It sounded pretty extreme, and many of the drills we did would sound pretty wild or extreme to the average person. But I surprised myself. I not only could hold my own, but within two months during a drill I accidentally put all guy about a foot and a half taller than me and quite fit through the wall at our door and he ended up landing on the ground of the building on his butt. Looking dazed and confused. Poor guy was okay, thank goodness, and he was a good sport about it. It helped me regain my confidence. I felt like I could finally adequately protect myself and find some actual sense of peace. It's been years since I've had my last flashback. Before I took classes, I would say I did therapy to work through it. But I personally didn't get much from it. But getting real training with men, who knew I had PTSD from surviving SA, etc. and were very patient and kind to me helped me and I am so beyond grateful for all of them. These men were at various ages and stages of life. Some were in or were former military, many were in different positions of law enforcement, one a security guard, one a waiter, one who was going to be a physical therapist after finishing serving in the military, one a waiter, another had been a stunt driver for Honda after he left his job as a diver for when he worked for the police in a different state, another was working at a large corporate company and another whose day job was a technician who did the repairing of broken hospital equipment. These were the men who were in class when they could make it while I was training. I was the only female student in my class. But I think it's better that way. Because statistically chances are as females, most of the people who attack women are male. In turn, I gave back to them back in class is a fight from someone who didn't follow some unspoken standard code of guy rules (not my words this was from the technician after a drill we paired up to do) as I would give experience that was "outside the box" that they could learn new techniques from as well. It's a Russian martial art. I was told it's what they used to teach the Spetsnaz (their special ops units). It's called Systema. And, I can personally testify that it saved me more than once from an attempted attacker since I attended multiple classes years ago. Once, when leaving a Super Target (I don't live in a bad area nor do I go to areas with higher crime rates. It's crazy because most people think that the area I'm from that nothing really happens here. But sadly, dirtbags go everywhere. Anywhere they can make an effective opportunity to do what they want. Crimes can, and do happen at any time, anywhere, and to anyone.) Another time I was on a camping trip out in the middle of nowhere with a small group that included people I grew up with lifetime friends of mine. Another time on the way to the ladies room of all places after having a blast on the dance floor dancing with my lady friends while celebrating one of their birthdays (thank goodness I've always followed the soda only rule when I rarely chose to go out and it had to be a really special occasion.) All of these mentioned were male attackers that I didn't know, had never met, were complete strangers to me and not known by anyone I was celebrating or travelling with. Those are just a few of the times I could have been a victim. But I threw a wrench in their plans. Situational awareness and making sure to stay calm but always in motion (preferably, you're armed with at least two weapons, and know how and are not hesitant to use them) does a lot to deter someone (especially a stranger) from harming you as most tend to look for someone who won't put up much of a fight. Stay strong. Be prepared. Stay alert. Keep on fighting. What my main instructor used to tell me was that if you enter a fight focused on hurting the other person or "winning the fight," that's your ego talking and ruling you. We've now ended up in a power struggle and lost sight of what's most important. That's when you're most likely to keep needlessly fighting, and you will eventually get tired. When we get tired, we get sloppy, and that's a good opportunity for the other party to hurt you. We're not there to win a tournament. We have one goal: Escape. Always be thinking about it. It flips a primal switch in our brains and triggers our survival instincts. You'd be surprised how many survival skills are tucked away in there that get unlocked when you feel like you're in danger. Remind yourself to breathe because people don't realise how much they actually hold their breath in a day, and your brain needs that oxygen to function. Relax, if your body is tense, the easier it is for your attacker to know when you're about to start fighting back. Don't ever stop moving. A moving target is harder to hit vs. one that is standing still. Keep it simple. Work with what you've got. I call it "Quick and Dirty", because most fights are precisely that. I once figured out when a dude grabbed me from behind (not in class) that even if all we can do is reach a few of their fingers, that still works! Fingers are just the steering wheel to the hands, and guess what? There's plenty of ways that they aren't supposed to be bending naturally. I slid my hand into theirs to get proper leverage and then snapped that fuc**rs thumb like I'd just been given a turkeys wishbone! He took his hands off of my body real fast and then took off running like someone set his butt on fire! It doesn't have to be complicated or graceful to be effective. Lastly, may your future be filled with peace, good health, healing, happiness, laughter, and people who you that can safely trust, love, and celebrate the magic of life's most beautiful moments with. I know it can be scary out there, but there's still some good people who exist in this world, and some of life's hardest journeys bring us to the most profound and wonderful destinations. Figure out what sets your soul on fire and pursue it with gusto! ❤️

I’m a biotech executive & have represented multinationals quite a bit in Asia. The attitudes described in this video are also prevalent in SK & JP. Local women, even high-ranking, are viewed as subservient. Multinationals make all our offices comply with our global ethics policies & equal opportunity rules, so they must hire & promote women. However when you visit the site, you notice female VPs are sent to run errands and don’t speak in meetings. In CN, I’ve dealt with other types of corruption. For example, we used a large publicly-listed contract research organization (I won’t give the name, but there are only a few big CROs in CN) to conduct pre-clinical research, ie, animal testing. Since CN govt requires a lot of animal testing even for cosmetics, it’s cheap to do there & they have a lot of experience (supposedly). Unfortunately, we caught on camera disturbing practices such as TAKING TEST ANIMALS rather than properly incinerating them. This is highly unethical & illegal. Selling these animals at market could cause poisoning or worse. L

Thank you so much for talking about this. I am a Chinese who grew up in the Chinese mainland and I can prove the content in this video is authentic. Chinese women are powerless when they encountered sexual violence, and the social hierarchy like sh*t does exist. I don't like to curse but...you know how I feel about this. My father cheated in his first marriage and my uncle who is a rich man also cheats. When I was a little child we went to his mistress's house and my mother told me to tell no one especially my aunt, and the whole family tree including my grandparents knew about what was going on. I and my brother were asked to call his mistress little aunt. We took his family with his mistress like a normal thing which was so abnormal. After I lived in the US I received a picture from my cousin, who is the son of his legal wife, my aunt, of where he was. He was just talking about random things but I was shocked-he was in his father's mistress house, where his mistress and the mistress's daughter lived! That's not OK! (The mistress's daughter is a lovely girl. I love her and she should not be blamed for what her father did. I state this just in case.) Over my childhood I thought cheating was a f*cking common thing because of what I went through. And a ridiculous thing that I have never, never told anyone was that my father had a big fight with my mother cuz he thought she was cheating (note: he himself cheated) and forced my brother and me to kneel down before my mother, beg her to open her phone. I was around 10 and my brother is 3 years younger than me. ...Despite those amusing things, the judicial justice for women in China is also **. Last year a girl accused a successful man of sexually abusing her when she was just a minor. The entire Chinese internet was enraged by this, but in the end, we heard no effective charge. The only thing I found was from Wikipedia saying he was sent away from China. The freaking ** man's name is Bao Yuming. ...Anyway, thank you for telling your story. I can imagine how traumatic it can be. I appreciate what you and your fellow workers did for those women. Thank you again for sharing.

This happened to me while I worked as a wildland fire responder for the United States Forest Service in 2021. I was raped and held hostage. This does not just happen in China. It also is occurring in the U.S. , currently. Various managers of the U.S. Forest Service including the Chief of the Forest Service dismissed my report, various law enforcement entities failed to investigate it. I am under threats to my life for reporting it. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Because of what happened, I cannot get into details, but he was a "Distinguished" visitor and I was not the only one. Your story hurts my heart and soul. I fought off my assault and reported it immediately. I had to keep fighting to get any justice or attention, both of which were denied to me. Still, I did my job and was given an Honorary Discharge in 2008. The more you talk, the more I know what you are saying is genuine.

First time coming across your channel, and thank you for reporting on this. You provided a helpful chronology and context which made it easier to follow the report. It’s an important lesson in recognising how different people can experience the same environment so differently. The men working at the training centres would not have encountered the horrors these women experienced, which often makes it easy to minimise or dismiss. We shouldn’t dismiss signs or whispers, we should be the one people can come to. Even if action is out of our power, at least we can listen and support.
