That protection is for US citizens. It is not for the world. It also does not mean you cannot face consequences for what you say or do. @@ihtfp69 that is a big sack of bull. America notoriously stood against the “following superior orders” argument in the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials. The fact that he can't have a basic level of decency and respect for people just doing their jobs is apalling. He makes Karens/Kevins look like saints in comparison. Honestly, in 50 years we will probably know that Julian Assange was an information broker who was compromised and coerced by Russia. He exposed secrets that will make him look like a hero to the public, he sold secrets that are worth the most money, and he buried secrets that would harm countries like Russia because Assange knows Russia would follow through with an assassination. Honestly, the main point of historical interest is how people like Assange and Snowden were able to generate such a solid base of support in spite of the facts there are clear dubious actions both have taken that highly point to being compromised. What people overlook for Snowden is egregious, but even what they overlook for Assange is remarkable.

The fact that he published that report about the president of Ecuador while depending on them for his safety shows an unbelievable amount of integrity. He's a very smart man and must have known the potential consequences for biting the hand that was holding him safe but even still, he stuck to his belief in free press and giving whistle blowers a platform to be heard even at his own expense. People need direct control over the government. Government organizations need to be held accountable. The system right now is just bloody fuckin retarded. We call it a democracy, the west is quite proud of it but at the same time, people don't care the public simply doesn't care if you talk about politics or even care about it you are considered cringe. And if the public doesn't care about themselves why should anyone 🤷 if the people really want to rule themselves let them fight for it. It is not like the police can actually kill them. The entire idea of sacrificing yourself and educating the braindead masses only to be treated like a terrorist and no one even bloody cares is just f****** retarded

I met Assange at the World Social Forum back in 2007 when I was acting as a interpreter for his WikiLeaks session. Aside from my friend and I (also an interpreter), nobody attended the session so we ended up being his audience of two. I remember asking him if he was afraid of the consequences of what he was doing. Was he not afraid? Did he not feel insecure? He said no, his security came from the philosophy that ' the enemy of my enemy is my friend's so this would be his protection as they would want to know the secrets of their enemies. In the short time we engaged, he taught me to ask questions and imagine a world where the person seating next to you may not be what they seem/ who you assume they are. I don't think he ever imagined the impact that WikiLeaks would have on the world. He also carried around a huge travel bag that was very heavy..as if he carried all his belongings wherever he went. I asked him if it was very heavy. He answered yes, and that he liked the heavy load. That whenever he got used to it, it was time to add to the load. Maybe that is his life philosophy.

Just to clarify why Assange was afraid of being extradited from Sweden is because Swedish authorities has broken this before and cooperated with the CIA and that ended up with people in an Egyptian prison that has been used as a Black Site. This was an incident that occurred in 2001 a few months after 9/11 and was revealed by Swedish investigative journalists in 2004. The scandal is often referred to as the Egyptian affair or the Egyptian scandal since both men were Egyptians seeking asylum in Sweden.

Look at the Saudi's, they created stupendous stories to cover up the murder of Jamal Khasoggi (given they lack brains and are lazy to study anything, they didn't even go through the stories they made up to see how it would sound or if anything even resembles what they say.) and yet Saudi committed outright murder and that didn't blow up in the proportion of this magnitude.

It should be noted that, while the British denied extradition to the US based on his "mental health," the real reason related to the US refusing Britain's request of assurance that Assange would not be placed in ADX Florence, which some consider to be an inhumane prison. This is largely cited as the reason he remains in Britain, though the British are in the process of allowing the extradition [with Assange, of course, fighting the extradition].

I hope at some point in this lifetime, wishfully sooner than later, Julian Assange will get his life back. I also hope he will be able to recoup some sort of financial gain for having to go through the hell he's had to live through for the crime of bringing the truth to humanity.

It must be terrifying to know there is a pandora's box for your life, once opened you can never go back, and this man was willing to not only open it but tell the world what was inside.

Unfortunately, when you deal with the C.I.A, the most petty and vengeful governmental branch in the United States, your life is ruined. Much like Edward Snowden, Julian's life will be *forever* ruined until he dies. The C.I.A is spiteful, and will do everything in their power to make your life an eternal, hellish nightmare no matter what you may try to do. They are inescapable, and have their evil, twisted tentacles in all corners of planet earth. They will always know where you are, and if they don't, they *will* know.

Hero ? The funny thing is you act like the US is the only to ever do this , The only reason is that the US is the only one in the spotlight when it happens , as bad as it is other countries do the same but no one knows about it and also when you start leaking such information about the United States you not only put it in danger but the world

Why the f***k is he being extradited to US when he is an Australian citizen. He should be in Aus jail. Though he didn't do anything other Starting a platform for anyone to share the information society needs to know not the one govts feeds them. Unbiased journalism rarely exist but unbiased facts probably by the Victim or witness themselves is still possible. Platforms like these should exist.
