I’m a side sleeper and the mattress I have now is supposed to be a “medium firm” option but it seems way too firm. I checked out the $900 range one today and it seemed way softer and something I may like. This review helped me finalize my decision! Hope it works out for me!

2 yrs ago I stayed at a Four Points Hotel and that bed I slept on was the best nights sleep I've had in a very long time. I'm almost certain I woke up in nearly the same spot I fell asleep in. Seriously. I'm pretty sure that hotel was using Serta mattresses. It was two years ago. Now I am in the market to replace my 20+ yr old quilted pillow top Sterns and Foster "monster size" mattress. It has served me well but it's now beyond it's useful life and I think I'm going to downsize to a queen. My guess is none of these is probably close to the one at the hotel eh? Watched many of your videos for online mattresses too. It's difficult with all the choices and mixed reviews on everything. I'm a side sleeper, warm sleeper and trying to find something that will give the same hugging yet supportive feel of my old trusty S & F mattress. It's finally starting to "hammock" a bit after all these year so it's time:) . Thanks for producing all these informative videos.

Hi Lori -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid it's pretty hard / impossible to know what mattress that hotel would have been using, even if you could be sure that it was a Serta. Hey Mike, yeah, I wasn't really asking any question but rather just stating too bad I didn't ask them at the time. Actually went to the Four Points website and they had info on their hotel mattresses, you can fill in the form as far as the date you were there, the room you were in ect and supposedly they can tell you what you slept on. But...you know, I'm not going to go through all that trouble. There's a lot of good beds out there these days. Thanks for the link but after leaving my comment here yesterday, I did take that test last night. I made all my notes and I will finally have a 3 day weekend this week and plan to go lay on a few mattresses to see what's out there. Thanks for the prompt reply back. Once I make a choice which may still take a while, I'll be giving some feedback on what I wind up with. Keep doing what you're doing as it'a a great service to a lot of folks out there:)

@@goodbed Just as Lori A stated, I stayed a couple of nights 2017 at a Doubletree By Hilton downtown Orlando Florida. The bed/mattress I slept on was out of this world good sleep. The next morning before I checked out..I took EVERYTHING OFF the bed in order to read the labels and yes it was a Serta Suite Dreams 2 mattress..not sure why but I took photos of the labels with my phone,now here it is May 29 2019. It came to the point when I needed a new mattress this year and I found the same mattress (hotel brand) that I had slept on at the Hilton with a new name..Serta Perfect Sleeper Sapphire 2 whooa I love the mattress. It was delivered to me April 7 2019 and I'm getting some of the best sleep ever. I love a firm mattress and I plan very soon to purchase another mattress for another room.

I have a firm model from big lots with the pocketed coils and couldn't be happier with the mattress. i did add a fitted topper (not foam) to take the edge off but the support i was looking for is there.

With regards to specific models, unfortunately lots of retailers request to have their own names given to the Perfect Sleeper models that they carry, so I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with those specific model names to help you compare them beyond the information that's provided in the video. That said, with just a little digging, you should be able to figure out which of the collections covered in this video they would fall into by looking at the specs that the retailer provides and comparing them to the info we cover in the video. I'm sorry we can't be of more help on this one but hope that's at least somewhat helpful nonetheless.

It sounds like you may have already figured this out, but the most common cause of hip pain is inadequate pressure relief. Just as an FYI, this is something that will vary by model even within the same brand, and the ability of any given model to provide good pressure relief for *you* will depend on personal factors such as your weight and body shape. So be sure to make a personal assessment of pressure relief as key a priority in your search. I hope that's helpful.

Serta also makes dozens (if not hundreds) of variations with different names which are "exclusive" at a given store, and the Sandburg is one of those. Unfortunately, we don't have information on what's inside it, or whether it uses the exact same materials as other Serta mattresses. Sorry I can't be more helpful on this one.

Hi Phaedra. Palm Coast is the name of a mattress model available at Mattress Firm, and not a type of coil. This retailer has a number of "exclusive" mattresses made for them by Serta. While very similar to other Serta mattresses, they are not EXACTLY the same. We actually have a video coming up in about a week that covers the Perfect Sleeper mattresses available at Mattress Firm. what i don't get is how the cooling anything (especially tercel material) even works once you cover the mattress with a bedbug encasement and a memory foam mattress pad.

Hi Phaedra. It's a great question, and we talk about it frequently. First of all, most so-called 'cooling' features don't FEEL cool to the touch. That is, you don't really notice them just touching them. The idea is that these features prevent the mattress from warming up as quickly as it otherwise would. The goal is to keep you cooler while you are falling asleep by preventing the mattress from warming up under your body so quickly. There are a lot of ways manufacturers try to do this -- by using conducting materials like gel, carbon, etc -- or by using denser fibers in the cover, or by using phase-change materials near the top of a bed. But you're right -- it's rare that any of these features make a mattress feel noticeably cool to the touch, and when we do encounter a mattress that does, we say so. Hope that helps explain it!!

That is a Sam's Club mattress -- Serta makes them specifically for that retailer, and does not disclose how similar it may be to their other, more commonly available mattresses. It looks like a traditional style of mattress, made mainly of a coil unit -- it does look like the coils are pocketed -- topped with a couple of inches of foam. We haven't reviewed this mattress, but it looks fairly typical of budget hybrid mattresses. One bonus is your Sam's Club return policy, so if the mattress doesn't work for you, you can always bring it back. Good luck!

Hi CL. Thanks for the comment. It look like that one is an "Exclusive" from RC Wiley, and as such, it really does not line up exactly with any of the other mattresses from Serta. It's likely using some of the same materials as the other mattresses in the line, but since it's a model that's made just for RC Wiley, we can't know exactly. That particular model looks like a pretty basic pocketed coil innerspring mattress, with just 2" of comfort foam on top of the springs. It's likely going to feel pretty traditional and bouncy.

Hi Alison. Thanks for the comment. That's a tough one -- Macy's never made that information available for its exclusive mattresses. Most of the Serta line are part of the iComfort series now. The Addison was most likely a hybrid mattress -- with a coil support core. Those kinds of Serta beds are generally now part of the iComfort Hybrid line: Here's our overview of that series: www.goodbed.com/reviews/serta-icomfort-hybrid-mattress-preview/ There are still some Perfect Sleeper models out there -- generally the "hotel" series. Those are continuous coil models (not pocketed coil), typically with an inch or two of foam on top. We haven't done an in-depth review of those, but they're out there. My guess is that if the Macy's bed you remember was associated with Vera Wang, it would probably be closer to the more upscale iComfort Hybrid models than the Perfect Sleeper hotel line, but that's just an educated guess. I hope this is somewhat helpful to you!

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that model but it sounds like you may be conflating a mattress model (Euro Top) with an adjustable base (iMotion), which are two different things that would certainly be sold separately. It's almost impossible to find reviews on these "exclusive" mattresses that are specific to a particular store. And unfortunately, neither the store or the manufacturer typically discloses what exactly they are made of in terms of foam densities or spring gauge. Just be sure you understand the store's return policy should you find the mattress does not work for you!

Hi Cheryl - Thanks for your question. The Perfect Sleeper Hybrids shown in this video are generally a bit lower in price than most of the Sealy Hybrids or the Serta iComfort Hybrids. Both the Perfect Sleeper Hybrid and the Sealy Hybrid have a smooth top while the iComfort Hybrid has a traditional quilted top (just a feel / preference thing). The higher-end Sealy and iComfort models have more phase change, better edge support and other features. So none of these is universally better than the rest - it’s just a matter of which characteristics best match up with your personal requirements and priorities. As you may have seen, we’ve released videos for all 3 of these over the past few weeks so hopefully watching those will help you choose the right one for you.

Hi. There are dozens of all-foam Perfect Sleeper models, so it's impossible for us to know exactly which model you might be looking at. We always recommend shoppers take note of the "body impression" warranty on any given mattress. That tells you how much "dip" would need to occur before invoking the warranty. For in-store models, you should be able to find that information with the mattress literature or on the law label. For an all-foam mattress. the industry standard is 3/4". While that warranty can't tell you about durability overall, it CAN tell you how much a company believes in its product's quality. Therefore, a foam mattress with a 3/4" depression warranty would give you greater assurance than one with a 1.5" impression warranty. Hope that helps!

Worst mattress I have ever have. The coils give in within a few days and mattress sinks. I had it replaced under warranty and the second one was even worse after a week. Now I am stuck with a super firm mattress and lots of back pain. I am currently looking for a mattress topper to see if I can avoid buying another mattress all together.

This does not really help anyone looking for mattresses that are named. The local stores cleverly use names like Elmcrest, Glenview on their Serta mattresses making comparison shopping difficult. You also dont cover pillow top mattress that are part of the perfect sleeper line.

Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. You are right that Perfect Sleeper is one of the lines with which retailers still play the "name game," with each store giving different names to the same models. Given the massive number of names used across the country, this video does not go into trying to debunk any of that. The good news though is that fewer and fewer product lines are allowing this practice (over the past year or so, it has now become the exception, not the norm) -- so if being able to comparison shop is a priority to you, we'd simply recommend going with one of the many other options that don't allow retailers to do this. Using what I learned from this video I was able to ask intelligent questions and look at the construction and build of the "named" mattress's to come up with a viable comparison. What I found didn't surprise me too much - like models (with different names) are priced about the same. So it was basically down to price, sales, comfort level and other store incentives. In my case It appears that the Sams Club "Castleview" Serta Perfect Sleeper is similar to the "Elmcrest" sold at JC Penny. The Sam's Club is cheaper ($598 vs. $749 - both "on sale") and to me felt the exact same. BUT - JC Penny offered 20% off the $749 if I opened an account. This dropped it down to $600. Because I then took advantage of a $64 "stain protection plan" and 18 months same as cash my total out the door price (WITH free shipping) $671.00 . This is only $33 more than the Sams club one for $638. I tested both mattress's out and they felt the same. What features I was able to discern (using this video)- the construction is similar. So unless I made a gross error - the JC Pennies model is the better value for me.
