As this seems to be trending again. Here’s an update. Max is now retired. I’m remarried. With two boys. Max lives up the road with my aunt. He’s my cousins dog now. And they are so sweet together. I see him all the time. He had a hard time retiring. So getting away from me helped him be able to relax and not the feel the need to alert and be a service dog. He still does when he sees me from time to time. Lol. My current service dog is now 3. She was adopted from a shelter. She’s a 16 breed mutt. Top breeds being American Pit Bull. American Staffordshire. Chow Chow. German Shepherd. And Doberman. And there’s like 4% Chihuahua.😂 Look at my new videos to see her. She started training immediately after being adopted. I spent 2 years training her before for applied to a Service Dog Program here in the US. And she Graduated in 2022. She does many things. Cardiac Alert. Mobility Assistance. Different Guide tasks like finding a specific person for me and bringing me to them. She retrieves dropped items and certain specified objects. She can pull open doors. Turn off lights. Hit handicap door buttons. Crowd Control. Blocking. Hold & carry objects for me. Retrieve my medicine. A drink. Etc. PTSD response. Syncope response. Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT). Blood Sugar. And so much more. She’s the sweetest goofiest girl. Is beyond spoiled. The daughter I don’t have lol. And my absolute best friend. ❤ Some of my disabilities are: Dysautonomia POTS Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome Generalized Joint Hypermobility. Neuropathy Gastroparesis IBS Reactive Hypoglycemia Migraines CPTSD And more 👋🏻👋🏻

He really was great. I remember the early days after I got my first guide dog for the blind. I was the only person in our county with a service dog. It felt at times like explaining was never going to end. Today, I’m grateful I was an instrument to be a part of educating the public, esp the talks I gave at the schools. The teachers arranged times that coincided with the children learning about the senses. My dogs were miracle balls of fur. 😊 After I got my first dog, I was able to take my girls trick or treating for the first time in nearly 10yrs. Mof, that first night Halloween, my dog Dori actually pulled me, my oldest daughter, & my youngest who was in a stroller, across the road quickly bc a drive had turned onto the road & was speeding to the point of nearly hitting us. One of our town police officers saw it but couldn’t engage in pursuit bc he wasn’t comfortable hauling a** after him, but he did get the guy. He was caught speeding in town later & they threw the book at the guy. After the loss of my last guide dog, I didn’t have the heart to get another. My last dog worked into retirement. I didn’t want him to feel left out if I’d got another dog. I didn’t want to retire him to family as I did with my previous dog. I don’t get out a whole, whole lot. I’ve also gotten extremely proficient with my cane. Most store/restaurant employees know me so if I end up going the wrong way, they let me know. I’ll eventually get another dog. It won’t be anytime soon. I’ve raised two daughters who are ten years apart in age while my husband worked out of town for his job. He’s home. Our girls are grown. So, we’re good. Give your four legged friend a scrunch from a (previous, tho not currently) service dog handler. 🐾❤

Update Years Later. No, I am no longer with my ex husband. Yes, he beat me daily. Strangling me unconscious, holding me upside down out of windows saying he was going to drop me and kill me, beating me any time I tried to leave and more. Years later, I'm remarried to one of my close childhood friends I've known for over 10 years. We've been married almost a year now. And we are currently expecting baby #2 (our first together). Liam, my son in the video, is so excited to be a big brother. I have a loving husband who helps me daily with my medical. He helps me set up my IV bags for my infusions 6 days a week. He helps me when my blood pressure is bottomed out and I'm tachycardic. I have Dysautonomia which is Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction. My brain sends the wrong signals to my body. So my blood pressure bottoms out, my heart can go up to 180bpm from standing and walking around. That's what causes the fainting. And there's a video somewhere on my channel of me being diagnosed. I have PTSD as well. (Obviously). I currently have Max. He's getting ready to retire. And I have a new puppy that is training to take his place. So I hope everyone can take some time to check out my more recent videos. And where I am at now in my life. Thank you all for the support. I love you guys! And over the years, I have learned how to cope better with my anxiety in public and how I react. So please don't hold this against me. But I am in a way better place now than before..❤️

@WindsofChange7 жыл бұрын
And alot of us who have real service dogs agree with her. Lack of agreement with someone means nothing other than there is a difference of opinion. I am a pro trainer and pro trainers themselves see things differently. Where the buck stops is where the law begins aboslutely. Some of those "important rules" have no backing in law...like 4 on the floor for instance, that has no legal backing anywhere- they are rules that some handler wants to enforce on another handler to feel important. It is a very good guideline when safe and possible, but it is not a rule. What does have legal backing is not to have them sit at tables on chairs and eat off of utensils meant for people. There might be very legitimate reasons someone may need to pick up their small service dog...working a small service dog is somewhat different from working a big one. If a dog needs to get on a couch to task, then that is also allowed. And ignoring an alert at times is very common for most with alert dogs....but because of the dog at least they know that they are in the danger zone while they choose, (inadviseably as it might be) to carry on with what they were doing. While I might disagree with someone I'm adult enough to see it for what it is...a difference of opinion. As long as they are following what the law says (and not my version of what the law says or yours but the letter of the law) then no one has a single thing to say to them legitimately. If her dog tasks and behaves in public (which clearly it does) under federal law it can be considered a fully trained dog regardless of what you or anyone else's opinion is. If she wants to hang on to the in training thing beyond that (which i actually reccomend because the law standard isn't up to MY standard of completion)...it is her business. Some states allow dogs in training (like mine). So.....so what if she or you or someone else considers it still in training...it's the law that matters. So unless you can back it up with laws...it's all just your opinion and in the end your opinion doesn't matter for squat...neither does mine. So why don't we, as handlers and trainers, be adult enough to say this is my idea of what is good and right and quit couching it as some rule or law that a person is breaking and condemning them for that- are we, as a community, really that weak? Why don't we back off people that are clearly progressing in an orderly manner and save it for someone who is actually causing a problem rather than trying to make ourselves feel more valid and important by trying to knock someone else down. There are NO red flags, save the red flag of people taking unfair pot shots at others for their own entertainment and self worth. Stop it!
@soulcompanionk9s5737 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Darnell For the record I am a professional dog trainer (basic - advanced obedience, competition obedience, service dogs, search and rescue dogs) and I can tell you having a dog trained for you doesn't mean anything. I have trained dogs to do some amazing tasks just to have it go home and then the Handler doesn't follow through with the training. So then you have an expensive, glorified pet who goes with you everywhere and doesn't do a thing for the Handler. You asked why have a service dog if you ignore the alert. Well Max continued to do his job and get more persistent and Dom did end up listening to him and laid down instead of passing out, falling and bashing her head on the floor. You say he is only in training. I don't know how much more trained you need. They could easily pass a public access test and I saw 2 trained tasks that he performed. Just because he is still learning new tasks doesn't make him "in training". From what I saw, they are well within the ADA requirements to be a service dog team. As for the couch incident, ok so she made a mistake. That has nothing to do with Max. If you noticed, she chose to lay on the floor this time. We all make mistakes, especially if an illness is affecting us at that time.

can't blame him for trying! and each kid is different, same with each parents opinions on how they do certain things. if she doesn't want to take the chance of traumatizing him, that's her decision, plus some kids are a little more resistant to weaning, so it depends on everyone's circumstance you know? I think as long as everyone is taken care of, let her keep doing what she is until both her and her boy are ready :) I agree though about the meds, but her concerns about her baby are what matters most.

He said he was laying in bed one day and Duke came up to him and pushed his nose into his ear really, really hard. The guy said it really hurt. He said it felt like he was trying to push his ear through his head and out the other side. Two days later the guy had a stroke. Duke was trained as a puppy for this. He works by commands; stop, go, back, stay, sit. He is unbelievably calm and sweet to everyone and every dog. I have never met or had a dog that is so even tempered and calm. Whoever trained him did it with patience and kindness, I can tell.

I do want to thank you for educating people on the rules, laws, and etiquette associated with owning and encountering service animals. Directly about this episode I know you're stubborn, but I hope now years later you listen to your service dogs when they tell you to sit down.😉 By the way love the little thumbs up with the ruffled hair that right there is reality at its finest!

I am so glad you have the love of a great husband and trained dogs. Your life has been blessed, a family, past and current service dogs. I see this vlog was years ago, but just now seeing it, doesn't change anything, I still love this.vlog. Take care and stay safe.

I've had 2 SD, 1 professionally trained and 1 was my mutt puppy (rescue dog). The first dog would not pick up any signs on me (the company took back the dog). My new mutt puppy by 4 months old was able to sense something wrong and would start pawing me and eventually covering me when I seized and stayed till I was able to communicate with him. He is now my SD and my baby. Its awesome to see that your Max is tied emotional with you.

I know it's a no no for good reason but it both broke my heart and warmed it at the same time when your son was worried and just wanted to cuddle you. The dog is wonderful keeping you from getting hurt. I would be scared to death of a full faint from a standing position.

Depends if ur heart is racing because when I start to feel like I’m going to pass out I’ll start panicking,passing out doesn’t really feel like sleeping because anytime I think I’m going to pass out from anemia feels like I’m dying (causes a lot of panic before and even after)
@cassidywilliams56984 жыл бұрын
Charlene Fraley it’s more like you’re awake, then you’re not, then you’re awake.... like a lapse in time but not like sleeping. At least for me. This is also what seizures feel like for me.
@kuramitokurahi4 жыл бұрын
It feels like you have TOO MUCH SLEEP to stay in your feets. It happened to me once and I just "fell asleep" after feeling like I couldn't control my body and too numb to think straight. You don't even feel the fall (I hit my head with the door and slipped to the floor after passing out). You just wake up laying in the floor with the same feelings as before (before you pass out)

Truly amazing, dogs are such wonderful creatures, it was a dog that saved my life when suffering from ptsd became too much and I considered suicide , till a beagle came into my life a few days later and whenever I would start to trigger , he would shower me with love and distract me from my downward spiral of remembering traumatic events , service dogs are such a god send

Absolutely phenomenal. Max is such an amazing service dog. He is so In tune to you & your disability. Not a single sole on this planet can say this is not a service dog. This really should serve as an educational video as to how a service dog reacts to his owners needs & how one properly behaves. ❤ much love, thank you for sharing. Max is adorable.

I have a question, its about your condition, was it better or worse when you were pregnant? like did the pregnancy hormones help stabilize a little bit of your symptoms, such as passing out or did it worsen it?

I am so happy I stumbled across videos about Service Dogs!! If I was a customer and I stumbled across this scene in a store I would have been shocked and confused and horrified by the nonchalance of the man with the baby with this woman laid out on a floor and a dog on top of her. These videos are very educational.

Good job Max! Also, while the employee was so nice and understanding, it’s shocking how he only knew about “seeing eye” dogs. Good job for educating him! (Also side note, I was cringing so hard when he started vaping with your son in the backseat. Your life, and a very beautiful family regardless)

Why not use a wheelchair? In the description it says she faints from standing or walking too long, so wouldn't a wheelchair help with that? Better than laying on the floor at random places.

Wheelchairs are actually not recommended for POTS patients. Infrequent use on bad days is okay, but doctors want you up and moving. POTS patients must stay active as a wheelchair will only make symptoms worse long-term.
@notsafeformiranda42717 жыл бұрын
I faint occasionally but still much more often than most and I have seizures a lot. I still would rather risk passing out than using a wheelchair because for me personally, I don't want to loose my sense of freedom. It's different for everyone. Her fainting is much more severe and chronic than mine, so if that's what she wants I support it completely. It's just that some people such as myself are too stubborn to give up the freedom of walking everywhere lol

I love dogs! I had a little dog who was registered as my emotional support animal for PTSD and he helped me so much. He’s passed now and I wish I could have him forever but he lasted 15 years which is longer than most dogs. He was my everything. Life isn’t the same without him. I’m still trying to adjust.
