I have 4 kids 5-10 years old, they have been taught from a very young age they can quietly tell me if they see a cute dog in the stores but are not to call it or make eye contact with it much less try to pet or even ask to pet it. We’ve had conversations about how important the dogs jobs are and that we don’t want to make it harder for them. Your doggo is sure a cutie though and I know would get a whispered look at the adorable pup from my girls :)
@peachy43584 жыл бұрын
Stuff like that makes me so happy, thank you for properly teaching your kids! It’s really appreciated! 💕 :) It always makes me smile when we pass a family and the kids are obviously excited to see a dog but know they can’t mess with him and are respectful instead of screaming “DOGGIE!!!! DOGGIEEE!!” or running up to us to pet him lol. Overhearing parents reminding their kids that they have to leave him alone or pointing out that he’s a service dog and he’s got a job, etc. or kids asking their parents what service dogs do is the sweetest thing and I wish it was more common than the screaming/tantrum reactions haha. I’ve had some really lovely interactions that way. 🥰 I totally understand that sometimes kids just need to let the excitement out lol, so I think your idea of letting them tell you instead of potentially distracting the dog is great :) Thanks for setting a great example for your kids and making our lives a lot easier! 💖

I had a kid beat her mum across the store yesterday 🤣 My saph saw her and backed up behind me, and I blocked... Kid was going so fast I had to legitimately grab her to stop her from running into saphs side to pet... The mum caught up a split second later and I immediately released the kiddo, and apologized for having to touch her. The mum just looked at me and said she was the one needing to apologize, I did what I had to. The kiddo was very small, and apparently hasn't been taking the lesson about petting other people's dogs to heart. The other mum in the store just laughed and gave me props for how great my blocking game was, and how gentle I was. Saph knows if there is a problem, to back up and let me handle it, that it's not her place to say no. I was very happy with how calmly she backed up a couple steps, this is her first year taking over for my lab/border collie mix that was my SD for 6 years. She's a European show line GSD. Beautiful tan with barely any black. You always have to give kids a little slack, even when patience is in short supply...

Me and my mom were walking through the store with my dog and we ran into someone who was asking questions about my dog (Rory) well Rory was just sitting there and waiting for us to continue when this kid (probably around 17-20) came up right in Rory’s face and didn’t say anything and started petting her. She tried to back up but the guy was holding on to her collar and all she could do was look at me and get smothered by this guy! I adopted Rory from a shelter in November 2020 and she has come so far! She is still afraid of adult males for some reason even though she was in the shelter because of parvovirus. I was so proud of her for not biting or growling when she had no warning whatsoever.

Well done! I have to say that even as dog owners we have to keep reminding people in the UK not to touch our dogs. So many people don't understand the training we put in to create well behaved dogs, let alone ones that actually have jobs such as guide dogs, or other service dogs. I tell my clients never to allow other people to touch, or give their dog a treat, because otherwise they will become more obsessed with other people than them. I still get the odd person giving my dog a treat without asking me first! I can't believe it when they do! What if my dog is allergic to what they are giving him??? Or what if he's in training...or what if he bit them...not that he would! But I'm appalled at this! Why is it that people think it's okay. I remember my parents always telling me never to touch a dog you don't know. My dog doesn't know that person, and i say to people it's like having children...you wouldn't let a stranger pet your child! Why would you let anyone pet your dog??? In this country we have lots of dogs stolen, especially since lockdown! Dog prices have shot up...and it's those dogs that will run up to anyone that will get stolen. Not mine. Although it helps, essentially there will always be people less educated. But you did exceptionally well there, and explained brilliantly! Those children are more educated than before they met you, and hopefully will think twice before calling your dog again. Thankfully, Mia is well trained! And your right hand is great! It's in the correct place so that Mia is now beginning to understand where to loose lead walk. You can see the difference already! Keep up the great work...like I said your a natural trainer! Best wishes from the snowy UK! Xxx

Around 5 years ago I lived with someone who needed a service dog. That dog taught me so much about respect. I still sometimes miss him that was the best dog I've ever had

That was so sweet of you to explain to them what to do, I feel like most people would get frustrated in that situation. I was never taught this about a service dog but whenever I see one I just ignore it and just walk along because on it’s vest it says don’t touch.

I have seen so many people on KZbin with there service animals and they are all very very VERY rude when trying to tell people to not interact with the dog. The way you handled it was beautiful and I love how you tried to educate them at the same time you are a wonderful dog owner and you have a wonderful way of speaking to people without sounding rude and I love you're videos! Keep it up!

*I Love how, You Were super patient with them. And not yell at them like some people do, with their service dogs if something like calling them over were to happen- So I think it’s really nice of you to do that. Cause some people really do need to learn, That a service dog isn’t there for pats and cuddles. But there to help those in need.* ✨🥰✨

It's really cool how patient you are with her, it's also nice of that person to say "You have a pretty baby!" instead of reaching to pet her. I watch your videos a whole lot, and your awesome.

That was such a great way to interact with the public. I have seen so many videos of service dog owners that react to the same situations in a very antisocial and snarly manner. This usually leads to escalated interactions of the worst kind that usually last longer than the time you spent to be kind and instructive. To bad you can’t train Maya to give you treats when you do the right thing. I am a marine corps veteran with ptsd. I have a 4 year old St.Bernard named Miss Johnston, I was wondering if it is too late to begin training her to be a support dog. Any links you may know about that might help me would be appreciated 🐶

I was walking into a fair with my service dog and a little 6 year old girl started barking at him! At first I let it go to see if the mother would say something... but nothing! After the third time.. I turned and said "please do not bar at my service dog" and then turned back around.. the mom started walking faster and when she got next to me she said "I don't appreciate you talking to my 6 year old like that" and I said "I don't appreciate you allowing your 6 year old to bark at my service dog... maybe you should teach her some manners 💁♀️" the lady comes back with "if you don't want people barking at your dog you shouldn't have brought him with you!" At that point I lost it and went TF off! I hadn't taken my meds that day and had only been out of the military for 6 months yet and I went off! People are so disrespectful these days! Thankfully I had my infant daughter with me and there were police everywhere or it could have ended badly!

My dogs name is Mya. She’s a beagle-blue heeler mix. BARKS NONSTOP. I call her the alpha dog because she’s just so sweet. When she’s not barking. And I learned something from this video. I wondered why you were not supposed to pet a service dog now I know why
@fantasygirlstudio46593 жыл бұрын
Yeah no one should never interact in anyway with a service dog. The moment you draw the service Dogs attention away it can miss an alert to something like a seizure and that could hurt or kill an disabled owner. It's also illegal under the ADA which states: No person shall interfere with the use of a service dog by obstructing, stairing, touching, speaking, intimidating, or otherwise jeopardizing the safety of the user or animal. Whoever violates this subsection shall be guilty of a class B misdemeanor. If an individual continues in the action of interacting and or distracting the service dog leading to the missed alert and injury of the disabled handler (owner ) the person would be guilty of attempted manslaughter.

This makes me so mad. Once I was at school and there was a little girl with a seizure alert dog (if that’s what you call it). Animals weren’t allowed in the school with an exception for these dog, well she was standing in line for something and a bunch of kids (from ages 5 to 9) came over an started petting it and leaning against it and hugging. She was really shy so she couldn’t say anything and I could tell she felt uncomfortable. They need to teach this stuff in school!

I was never taught about service dogs so I really appreciate the fact you explained it because I remember when I was little I called out to one and got yelled at so now when people talking to me in public I flinch because it’s scared me. I don’t like yelling but you were so chill about it. So I wasn’t there but thanks for being like that. We need more people like you who are nice about it rather than yelling at kids for it so you are an amazing person, and your channel is great. Also your dog is adorable so I get why the kids called out to her because if I didn’t know about service dogs now I would have asked to pet her because I’m actually pretty young. So I’m still learning about stuff like this.
