Have you ever seen a Service Dog in public and have SOOOO many questions you want to ask the handler, but don’t really feel comfortable? Maybe you have only ever heard of service dogs and want to know more. You possibly could need a Service Dog yourself and are curious as to how to get one.
Or maybe you just reaaaaaally like Q&A’s and want to sit in on this one. Whatever the reason you’re here, WELCOME! I am so grateful for you.
My name is Jenn and I have had PTSD for the past 13 years. I’ve had my service dog, Theodore for 6 years and I’ve learned so many things on my service dog journey.
Theodore has worked at Disney World (and rode all the rides that don’t have a height requirement), he’s flown in multiple airplanes, rode on trains, buses, subways, even on a cruise ship and everywhere in between.
He’s even had training with thousands of pigeons being fed right in front of him on the streets of Chicago and had to remain in a down stay. Theodore has worked in many many many wild scenarios, just like that one. Through the years he’s worked with me combined with the crazy scenarios we’ve been in, I have learned a massive amount of knowledge in owning, training, and handling a service dog. This includes staying up to date with the laws and regulations too.
Usually the first is “can I pet your dog?” It’s so natural to want to pet a service dog, but it’s so vital that you don’t.
I’ll be answering that question and many, many, many more as well as sharing some of my craziest situations I have been in with Theodore on this Service Dog Q&A Livestream; June 27th at 7:30pmest. I’m going to also be sharing about PTSD and how you can help the ones you love that struggle with it every day.
My partner, kyle will be joining me too! He’s going to give his perspective as a spouse of someone with a PTSD Service Dog and the things he has seen, experienced, and learned over the years as well.
I am qualified to speak to this because I have had real life, on the job training for nearly 13 years with my PTSD and 6 of those with a Service Dog. I have been put through the wringer and got my education through the school of life and teaching myself. I’m going to be getting very vulnerable and opening up about a very deep part of my life. Everyone is welcome at this event; my only ask is that you remain respectful while you’re here. Feel free to ask questions to be inquisitive, please refrain from questions or comments that are critical.
I want this to be a safe open space where you can ask real questions and you’ll get real, raw, and vulnerable answers; using my education to inspire growth.
I can’t wait to see you there!!
