Servicing My Wife's Sportster 48 With A Fresh Amsoil Oil Change

I service my wife's Sportster 48 with some Amsoil 20w50 motorcycle oil and an Amsoil oil filter. It's probably a good thing she wasn't home while I was doing this, gave me some time to clean up the mess and hide the evidence. Making her 2017 Sportster 48 run smooth with the Amsoil should make up for it.

i think every oil and filter has its own feature how do i keep it? ahhh, i dont ve a motorcycle yet here in the UAE i cant buy one till i reach 17 i m still 15 haha however if u want my opinion i ll jst try my best find good ways to keep it all good :)

​@@GixxerFoo mmm... this is a really hard question tbh haha... there r too many thoughts about that in my mind honestly... i ll try to make it as short as possible... if i m goin to stay in the UAE i ll go with gixxer 750 k8 or smth like that if not (cus i ll try my best to go to EU u know i m syrian and its hard to get visa and shit like that) i ll go with a dirt bike that doent mean i wont ride a dirt bike in the UAE i want to ride too many types :)

Dirt bike would be cool, especially like and enduro so you could go on and off road, it's on my list lol. I had a GSX-R 1000 K3, a 2003 model. I wish I still had that bike today, it was a blast to ride.

I just bought a '08 105th anniversary 1200L. It has the copper/black color with badging. I really really like your gas tank! That is sharp! Amongst a sea of bikes the copper color really pops.

where is the Neutral switch lamp location? Now when I shift gear 1 2 3 or so, it always on the N greenlight. Something is wrong, please help

The neutral switch is located behind front pulley towards the front of the pulley, does sound like you might have an issue with the neutral switch sticking.

After doing my 1K service on my 2020 883, going to change fluids myself. Are there oil change kits that include o rings & derby cover gasket? Thanks for your videos.

Not that l have found for the Sportster, but you can get a bag of o-rings on Amazon or Ebay for cheap. You can reuse the derby cover gasket many times if it is good shape, just don't over torque it.

I'm trying to figure out what you would be doing while giving your bike an oil change that you would need to put a note on it?! Aren't u changing the oil and moving on?! Changing oil takes u a long time?

Same method except line carboard with foil and punch a hole with old phillips screw driver at the top first then bottom of face of the filter, drains the filter out slow and way less mess when you actually take the filter off. Takes little longer though.

Those clips are a mother 🤣 and you always have to remember not to touch hot stuff while doing the oil change i learned that hard way every time 🤣

@@GixxerFoo I've used Amsoil in my cars, trucks, metric bikes and in my Sportster for decades with great success. For the oil filters, I prefer the NAPA Gold (made by WIX at a lower price) in the 21-micron spec. The tighter 5-micron spec can go into bypass too earlier and stop filtering. Besides, the Sportster Evo motor needs less resistance for better flow.

For the oil filter, I use those thin junk catalogs I get in the mail, they curl nice around the filter, just hold it tight against the engine, never make a mess and I find a good use for junk mail.

🤔 not a bad idea, l been using cardboard and it doesn't always work as intended 😆😂. Sometimes l get lucky.

I use the cardboard that supports the waterbottle that are plastic wrapped. Aquafina is best. I cut a template of one that goes all the way back and then use it to cut the ones I actually use. No extra cost and easy to use.

@@GixxerFoo I've tried the tin foil without success. The Aquafina cardboard has ridges that allow it to curve perfectly around the oil filter. I cut out the two notches at the engine where oil filter screws onto, for a tight fit. Then I used this one as a template and I have a stack of these ready for the future. It's worked great. However, I still place cardboard on the floor underneath the oil filter because of Murphy's Law.

You don't want your oil burning hot as it is what is helping the engine to cool properly, if you drain the oil too soon, all that heat stays in the engine and can cause weird issues. This is uncommon, but in an oil/air cooled engine it's not a great idea. Also, it can be dangerous to handle oil that's capable of giving you serious burns and is also a very sticky substance, so it won't be coming off your skin very quickly.

Very true, I really wonder how much oil you actually get out of those bikes though since you're really only draining the oil the tank. I am curious how much is actually still down in the crank case 🤔

I believe there are some kits out there for doing just that, I am glad Harley finally started putting larger tires on the bikes stock. I've seen a Sportster before with wide rear tire kit, they look really good.
