Never knew about that sort of retaining wire clip. Great explanation. And nice tutorial on lips seals for folks

They are a cool and simple retaining system. It is a nice change not using locktite or grub screws for security.

Nice one Shayne :) Those old school rams look gorgeous !

Also, do you have a bypass somewhere on those lines ? Could be a handy safety upgrade in case a rudder ever gets stuck for whatever reason
@youngbarnacles3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, yeah they cleaned up really nice. Yes there is a ball valve bypass on each ram. This also allows rudder alignments.

Nice video, can you also tell how you cleaned the cylinder? It looks like new!
@youngbarnacles11 ай бұрын
I used a wire wheel to clean it

a great video , thank you too much. I have a problem you might help me with. I have a boat with telefax hydraulic steering commanding an Alamarin Jet drive . since a while - when turning the wheel I feel a lack when turning the wheel in the steering , where the response of the steering is lost . Then I feel a pressure - harder / stiffer tu torn and the wheel respond to the turn . Do you believe the sealing of the cylinder is getting damaged or is the problem in the steering hub ? I would love to get your idea . Thanks a lot Efdal

Hi Efdal. It's hard to know without seeing it. It could be air, it could be the bucket seals on the ram or it could be the internals of the hydraulic pump. Hydraulic problems are difficult to diagnose without having them in front of you.

Hi Shayne, where did you order the seal kit from for the hydraulic rams?
@youngbarnacles2 жыл бұрын
I contacted Vetus directly and they helped find the closet dealer to me in Spain.

mine were a bit more agricultural, O rings both ends with two on the piston, was an every 12 months job
@youngbarnacles3 жыл бұрын
Orings on the piston was common on the agricultural gear I once worked on. It was possible to upgrade the orings to lip seals with a small cost up grade some times.
