Brilliant, beautiful and informative - as usual. So happy to be part of this process, both as an observer, recipient (soon I think!) of a Fox Moon print, and supporter of continuing to keep such wonderful artists employed doing what they love to do. Thank YOU for the opportunity to do so.

Well, you know I myself don't spend much time thinking about how I can 'find a place' in Japan ... I just get busy with the work (and my community). The rest just follows from that fairly naturally. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the videos ... thanks for commenting!

I listen to David talk whenever I need to relax. The stress just flows away. I love my Giclee prints! Getting them professionally float mounted this weekend.

I am so glad I have backed your project. I am glad to see you are reaching out to the others in the community. So many old art forms are dying, keep up everything Mr. Bull!

Of course they are using my blocks ... I also provide the paper (we are using a very expensive paper produced by Living National Treasure Mr. Iwano Ichibei). Ideally, I would rather these men come to my workroom to do the work, so that I could perfectly supervise it, but at the level they are working, that honestly isn't necessary ...

Thank you for introducing people like me to this wonderful world of woodcarving. It is sad to see many of this old arts and traditions die. Keep up the good work Mr. Bull

Mr Bull, I admire your work. It is wonderful that you managed to find your place in Japan - not an easy task for a foreigner. I myself have been trying to find my place here for quite some time, and your youtube channel is a great source of motivation. Please, keep these videos coming. It is a true pleasure to have a peek at your world.

Fascinating video as always. Love seeing all the people that are working with you on this project. I received the first set of chibi heroes and also my giclee print for the Yokai Dracul. The attention to detail is just amazing. I can't wait to get the woodblock print of the Fox Moon.

So Tetsui-san is quite the reverse version of Dave. Dave had a music background, was a teacher, & he went with woodblock carving/printing as his ultimate career. Tetsui-san on the other hand, is a woodblock printer who's aspiring to be a guitarist & at the same time works as a music teacher.

I can certainly help you with that! I can't put a link here in this KZbin comment, but if you go over to my woodblock com website, access the RoundTable section, and search for 'Shirakami Sanchi', you will get a page with a recent NHK travel program, where I acted as a host for visiting that area ...

Very relaxing and interesting! One question when hiring other printers do you lend them your key/color blocks or do they carve their own?

Our printers work on their own schedules; they all carry a key to the workshop, and come and go as they please. There are no company 'rules' prescribing their working hours ...

What sort of a question is that. Do you think he's running a sweatshop?

Can I ask two things - 1. are these limited edition or can you print an infinite number? 2. I see you are getting Namabe San to print the Fox Moon Print does he create his own woodblocks based on the proof that you have carved??
@seseragistudio7 жыл бұрын
We don't do limited editions at all - that's not the old Japanese tradition. The blocks themselves will determine how long we are able to use them, but we are not even remotely close to that stage yet. Numabe-san is using my block set, of course, along with my proof. He simply follows our instructions, with the intent of matching my proof as closely as possible. He returns the blocks to me after each batch.

Thanks David I am really fascinated. Keep it up I am loving your vids, it is making me feel like becoming an artist. I love the fact that you are immersed into the Japanese lifestyle and in a sense retaining this age old tradition engaging with those in Japan that are still practising it..
