As a Boy Scout in the mid 70's I remember the trip from the Top of Topa-Topa down that canyon to Ladybug Camp and on down to the Sespe and around to our pickup at Lyon's Camp. Years later I did a solo trip from Reyes Peak all the way out to Fillmore along the Sespe where we routinely caught 14-18" rainbow trout. Great memories for sure....nice video!

Oh wow! Some great times back then! There sure isn't the trout in there now like there was back then.

The Sespe Wilderness is a true gem! I bet it's even better in the fall when it's a bit cooler and all cottonwood trees turn yellow. It was pretty miserable in June when I visited.

Hahahah blow out! Looks like a great spot! Kudos going out in such hot weather! Especially to a hot spring! How much does your sun hoodie weigh? I'm shopping around for ideas.
@HuckOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Not sure the weight of the sun hoodie, but it's very lightweight. I've been using these for years now. If you have a Columbia outlet, see what they have to offer there.

Beef Tacos are my favorite Next Mile Meal...along with Buffalo Ranch Chicken. Yum! Did you do that nightlapse with your GoPro? I've been wanting to try that out with the Hero 9. I'll have to check out that coffee - thanks for the recommendation! LOL! Major blowout!
@HuckOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
I think my favorite is the meatballs. Yep, the nightlapse was with the GoPro. Very easy to set it up.

Your camp near water is the best spot I think, was that a panfish?
@HuckOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was a green sunfish. Lots of great campsites back there.

Did you stumble upon any of the tar pits that are out there? BTW, Sespe Creek is a class V whitewater run that rarely gets boated these days. I scouted some of the run when I moved back to California in '02 but I couldn't find any takers to boat it with me. Probably for the best now that I look back on it.
@HuckOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Didn't see any tarpits this time. Wonder where the class V rapids would be? Was pretty darn smooth and low in the section that we were at

Hi! Is this a tenkara rod? I'm doing the same trail in a few days, and only have spinner rods, but have heard that fly/tenkara rods are the way to go and am really struggling between choosing.
@HuckOutdoors17 күн бұрын
@dylancarr4799 either one will work. If taking spinning gear, use UL lures in the 1/64-1/32 size
@dylancarr479917 күн бұрын
@@HuckOutdoors Thanks for the response! I'm buying a fly rod, but am in between a tenkara or western fly. Do you have any recommendations for trails like these and ones in the sierra? Hopefully catching something I can eat too. Thank you!

Definitely a trip I want to do. I keep on hearing about this character that “lives” out there. He goes by the name of Pan. Is he still out there?
@HuckOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Yes he is. He stays at thatcher camp, but was in the hot springs when we got there.

That i can't remember. Probably some beadhead nymphs and some sort of mosquito

We did run into Pan at the hot springs.

That place was a hoppin', surreal far out, hippie, free form nudist camp at one time. You could drive all the way in if your vehicle could do it; when you got close to both the springs area there were hippie buses, box trucks, VW vans, tents, cars; it sounded like a Rock Concert going on, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Dead playing 24/7. Half the people were nude everywhere; drunk & High, most everything was cool, but there were some fights and petty crime. The Sheriff drove a 1960's Ford Bronco and was a presence of Law so it wouldn't get too far out of hand. Hundreds of people would be there every weekend. Bear Creek camp was as far as you could drive any regular car on pavement. Sometime in the middle 1970s, after rains washed out the roads the Forest service let it return to nature. (The Sea-Bees had a small base in Rose Valley & used the area as training to build & maintain roads; they closed that base in the later 1970s)
