Just a note: Mayfeld's outburst was emotional for sure, but he also killed everyone who had seen Mando's face and then handed him the helmet and said, "I never saw your face." Even in his rage, he was protecting Mando's identity because he was affected by Mando's willingness to reveal his face for Grogu.

Mayfeld's an asshole, and he's done bad things for selfish reasons...but he's not explicitly a bad person. he's been burned, a lot, and bad. He's jaded and kind of nihilistic. But getting put in his place by Mando kind of clicked something in him. Mando could've, maybe SHOULD'VE killed him...and didn't. And then he came to enlist his help to get back something precious to him. And seeing the lengths Dyn was willing to go to, and also remembering why he himself left the service of the Empire, everything kind of came together. . I'm sure he'll still have some bad habits, but I think between his capture and this...he's learned a lot.

@M 40 I would say it's less about 'reconsidering' and more about having his horizons widened by experience. He was part of an echo chamber cult and he had no way of knowing what was on the outside until he traveled. When he traveled he saw that not everyone believed as he did or lived as he did. He hasn't changed his beliefs, but as Mayfield said, there are lines you don't cross until you're desperate. He's desperate to get Grogu back from the Empire to the point that he would take off his beskar and wear a stormtrooper's armor, and then desperate enough to remove his helmet when there was no other way to get the information. He's being pushed more and more past his "line" because it's not as important as getting Grogu back. Will he eventually become more like the Nite Owls? Who knows. But for now, it's less about reconsidering his religion and more about a father's desperation.

Mayfeld probably lost family and buddies in Operation Cinder. That Operation which you see it first hand in EA's Battlefront 2, was basically a contingency in case of Emperor Palpatine's death in which they would basically bomb dozens of planets in the name of the Empire as to make sure that the enemies of the Empire would not forget that there are still remnants who are loyal to what the Empire stands for. We got players like Moff Gideon, Grand Admiral Thrawn which we know are active during this time which is 5 years after the destruction of the second Death Star. It is possible many more remain and would most likely go on to form the First Order if the sequels are still canon at this point.

In Season 1 ep 8 when they went into the mando covert underground mando found that the other mando’s left their helmets. The armorer pointed out that they revealed themselves to save the covert (and themselves) I think there’s always the chance they can forgive mando. But I think it’s more about whether Din wants to continue with zealotry.

But it isn’t the way. That’s why it’s so meaningful. You can tell it’s deeply shameful for him. Grogu’s safety is more important to him than following the letter of the creed. I think coopting that moment as part of following the creed would devalue the moment’s significance. The creed is everything to him. But Grogu means more.
@danielglenn915
@danielglenn915 3 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateKyuubiFox to say this is the way at that particular moment, with the line delivered appropriately, would signal his new path as a father not a warrior. This entire season has slowly dripped notions of moral ambiguity into Din's world. I thought Mayfeld's lines were spot on as a prelude to Din deciding what his true beliefs actually were. So I don't mean for him to say this is the way as some hardened Death Watch zealot we associate that mantra. Instead, it would be a rejection of the creed in lieu of a new set of moral and emotional standards he must set upon.
@danielglenn915

@M 40 exactly! Yes! The words this is the way has a different meaning for Din at that moment. This episode grew on me over time. And it was very relevant when it came out. Still is, but even more so then. Mayfeld grew on me so much this episode. He was dropping some real truth bombs and acted the hell out of that scene in the cafeteria. That gave me chills! And you know despite much he ripped on Din for not removing his helmet, he didn’t’t actually expect him to do it and was incredibly moved when he did. He definitely respected him way more after that. He saw how uncomfortable and panicked he was and covered for him. Then he killed all the witnesses and was like I never saw your face. That was a father’s love and desperation right there. He was willing to risk expulsion from his covert to get Grogu back. That says a lot about. And that last scene! He meant freaking business! Gideon definitely looked a little nervous after that.

This was a great episode. The Believer is something you can put on each main character in the episode: The Imperials (especially that general) are those who are fanatics - They are those who are still loyal even after Operation Cinder (that was basically like a final order of Palpatine) to both destroy planets (many of which were loyal to the empire) and also getting imperial troops killed because "they allowed their emperor to fall". They are believers no matter what Mayfield was a imperial during that time and was probably just in it because he thought he was making a difference or because he was just trying to make a better life for himself. After seeing what the empire really was, uncaring of its own people, his friends and family and fellow troopers, he quit thus losing his belief . His his time with that crew of outlaws, he saw that the group he was rolling with were almost no better than the empire itself. And here he is with a group of unlikely comrads now who are looking out for each other to save a life, damn the rules and regulations. They are doing it because it is right. Mando: He's questioning his beliefs He's slowly learning that adherence to dogmatic beliefs can get you killed. You can still belief in the ideals of what it is to be a mandalorian but not have those dogmas tie you down.

That was such a good episode. This episode easily could have been the throw away episode of the season, especially considering the fan service of the last 2 episodes, but instead it was it's own great self contained adventure that also moved the main story along. Both Pedro Pascal and Bill Burr gave some great performances in this episode, particularly in cafeteria scene. I especially loved that scene at the end where Din gave Gideon's speech back to him to let him know he's coming to get Grogu back, I also loved that Gideon looked a little worried by it. I'm so hyped for the next episode.

yet another episode that really showcases how well they're handling references to other Star Wars films, tv shows & video games. One man's pirate is another man's freedom fighter and vice versa. I really liked, that we got to see the "other" side of things. As Werner Herzog's character said with such bitterness in season 1, "Look outside... Is the world more peaceful since the revolution? I see NOTHING, but death and chaos". An interesting point, from a certain point of view... Bill Burr's acting at the table... He actually managed to produce a facial expression that showed 50% that he was going to vomit from shame, anger, regret and 50% like he was going to cry for the people he served with who got wasted by the system which considered them mere cannon fodder. Boba using seismic charges, like his father before him... ;-) Finally, how come the computer recognized Mando's face...?

I love the question mayfield brings up "is it you cant take off your helmet, or you cant show your face. cuz there is a difference" which is true as hell. On one side you cant take off your mandalorian helmet because its a respect to the creed and its your way of paying homage to your culture. But if its you cant show your face then the reason becomes people cant see me or know who i am. Which makes you shrouded in secrecy and removes you honoring your people and culture. It becomes a selfish reason for wearing the helmet instead of an honorable one

There's a wonderful movie called "Wages of Fear" (the American remake was called "Sorcerer") where the main plot is driving dangerous explosives through a treacherous jungle. That was a nice homage to the film. Mayfield's moment with the officer reminded me of the scene in "Django Unchained" where he just HAD to shoot the scumbag... a lot of people talked about Mayfield killing everyone who saw Mando's face... but I think he was even more interested in avenging the guys from his unit who died because of this son of a bitch.

Even in Season 1, episode 6, Mayfeld was not the worst of them. He was trying to talk down the situation with the guard (not as much as Mando), but he didn’t shoot the guard upon first seeing him and was shocked when the alien chick threw the knife. He was an a$$ for betraying Mando in that episode, but he could’ve killed and didn’t. He also never really harmed Grogu, but picked him up more to rile Mando and out of curiosity, neither did he drop him on purpose. I glad for the backstory and do you realize how dull this episode would’ve been without Bill Burr comedic digs (four stoic characters in a ship and no Grogu cuteness)?

Poor tactical move at the end, but he is now in Gideon's head as well. I think they have a mole onboard, thanks to Bo Katan, who is gonna help even the odds a little bit. Not sure if/how they are gonna pull this off, but should be banger of a final episode!

I watch each of your intros, no worries lol! From Walking Dead to Star Wars, I just love your channel cuz I feel our personalities are similar. I am very much into Star Wars but seeing how affected you are by this show, you’re gonna love Clone Wars, and I definitely suggest following up with Rebels!

I reckon they will have Cobb Vanth, Bo Katan & her Mandalorians and maybe Ahsoka, maybe whatever Jedi the Child made contact with.

Bunch of stuff, Obi wan kinda clip thing, Andor sizzle reel, Bad Batch trailer. Honestly if you like star wars, even if you don't like animation, you should watch Star Wars Rebels. I thought it would be bad, or just not for me at all, but I LOVED it. And especially with Ashoka, and her getting her own series, its super relevant.

Jessica, That whole Mando telling Moff Gideon "I'm coming for you" scene was straight out of Rambo: First Blood Part 2.

At this point if he gets the child back than he should keep him.You can’t fight an empire just to give him away to be trained.At the end of the day Grogu sees him as a father and it wouldn’t help being given away.They both want to be together as father and son.

There is a lot going on in the world of Star wars in this case Ahsoka will get his own series, so now you will definitely have to watch The clone wars and rebels because there will be 100% threads from these series

How flawed of a security system do they have that it scans the face of the person requesting data, will shut down the terminal if it can't complete a facial scan, and presumably only is comparing the facial scan against "known or suspected enemies" ? Would it not make more sense to build your facial recognition on "known, identified, clearly on our side faces?" Imperial programmers or engineers must have literally been "giving the minimum" in designing this security system. "Known enemy attempts to enter the base, *kill kill kill*" Some random guy walks in with a security stick, accesses a 'secure' terminal and his face is not on file *grant top secret location data*
