No More Jockeys

3 жыл бұрын

No More Jockeys is a game created by Alex Horne, Tim Key and Mark Watson.
✔ HOW TO PLAY
On each turn, players name a person plus a category they fall under. That person and category are then eliminated, and subsequent people must not fall under that category. As more categories are added it gets harder, and eventually impossible, to name anyone new.

I guess when you consider Horne is 100% in the right not to walk when the category was specified as ALL black and the picture shown didn't show all of Hogan there are some parallels to draw. A bunch of incorrect people getting mad at the correct person because it's inconvenient for them and then villainizing the correct person because they have the nerve to fight their case. That does just about sum up what happened with Trump. Oh accept he actually conceded without incident once all legal avenues were expended. You realize questioning election results isn't new? Bush v. Gore? And the election was a hot mess which was made all the more suspicious by immediate claims that absolutely nothing was a miss.

I have to say, as a professional wrestler myself, the character that I perform as is a fictional character. That persona is a character that I and story writers came up with and evolved over years that holds similarities to me (the way he looks, moves and sounds) but is very distinguishable as a different person. In his Gawker lawsuit, Terry Bolea made very clear arguements that Hulk Hogan is a character he plays and is entirely different from Terry Bolea the man. So Horne, as a qualified below-the-liner, you should have definitely got to stepping!

Darth Vader has metal alloy on his all black outfit the same way that Hulk Hogan is wearing all black (a black leather belt, where the clasp is probably titanium or stainless steel). Horne should have argued his case, realized he lost, and walked like the others have done, instead of muddying the waters so much that no one felt comfortable continuing the game.

I'm sticking up for Horne here. He got done on the work for Sooty, and Key has refused to walk on shakier pretexts in the past. I think Horne's good nature has been exploited in the past, and this was an understandable display of chagrin.
@lemurunc
@lemurunc 3 жыл бұрын
drw23 is exactly right. So many times Alex has been way too generous, whether in letting Tim Key keep going after a clear error, or voluntarily walking on shaky ground. Nice to see him argue for a bit for once - even though, strictly speaking, he should have been out. But the problem was really the category. There needs to be a way to strike down a proposed category - like, what if Key opened with something like "Hugh Grant, no more people with a vowel anywhere in their name." The game would just end right there! A category that's so broad it basically stops the game should not be allowed in the first place, and "wearing all black" definitely comes close if not crosses that line.

I think Horne was 100% in the right not to walk on ALL black. The first shot had a giant white logo across his chest, not even close. The second shot cut-off just below the ankles. Who knows what was going on down there. The rest of his pants weren't even necessarily black forget about his footwear. The fictional challenge was pretty funny. He did have a cartoon series, and it is a persona, but ultimately it's a real person who's given themselves a stage name. it's a challenge I'd have thrown out early in a game if I still had both spares.

Horne shouldn't have walked. Key said all black and all black means EVERYTHING black. And as for the second challenge, the category wasn't: no more fictionals, it was: no more non-humans. Although Hulk Hogan may be a persona or fictional, he is still a human. If you already argue for your case, don't give up.

Key also said he won’t be saying any referees or any New Zealand rugby players due to the category. Premier league refs and All Black players both have a tiny bit on non-black design on their uniform so Horne definitely should have walked. It was a disgrace that he didn’t when originally challenged

@shanecommins7968
@shanecommins7968 3 жыл бұрын
Well you wouldn't, because you'd be asking the wrong question. The problem with Horne's defence isn't that the concept of 'all black' is problematic in some abstract metaphysical or ontological sense, just that it's definition *for the purposes of the game* is ambiguous. Mind you, that itself could be philosophically interesting - Wittgenstein, language as a system of shared meanings, etc.
