Setúbal lies at the mouth of the river Sado, across the river on the south bank you'll find the Tróia Peninsula, a place with vast and stunning white sand beaches.
Today, Setúbal is at the heart of the Portuguese fishing industry and is famed for its sweet and globally acclaimed moscatel wine. Its pedestrian streets, fountains and gardens lend it a certain grace, while its port give Setúbal the feel of a still thriving historic city.
Setúbal is also the birthplace of the famous football [soccer] manager José Mourinho.

Já tivemos em Setúbal em 2015 e 2019 embarcamos no Catamaran rumo Troia com nossa filha Marlia que mora em Portugal desde 2002..estaremos aí em agora em junho novamente....Parabéns pelo vídeo...obrigado por ver meu comentário,olha minha filha tem um restaurante no Restelo na rua pedrouços 95 chama Sombra do Tejo comida muito boa vá lá fazer uma visita ela tem uma sócia portuguesa que se chama Catarina vou continuar vendo seus vídeos achei muito bom sem nenhuma enrolação e com muita objetividade...

I love Setubal, and also the surrounding region including Sesimbra. It was described as an ‘industrial port town’ in some of the travel guides that I’d seen, but when we went there we thought it was packed full of interesting, beautiful and historial places. Such an underrated city, although from a selfish point of view I guess that was good as it wasn’t full of tourists !

I completely agree! 😊 Setúbal is very underrated, like most towns south of the Tagus river. And when a town is described as "industrial" that's usually a euphemism for polluted, ugly, etc, which is not the case at all. Yes, it used to have a strong industrial base, it was a bit rough, like the whole region south of Lisbon, but it's much more than that these days 😊

Setúbal is indeed a beautiful city. It had one of the most wonderful mercados and the best choco frito. We also loved the street art, the casa da cultura, the Jardim do Bonfim and the Museo de Setúbal/Convento de Jesus. And we can’t forget the Arrabida. The best and most beautiful beaches. We fell in love with the city plus the transit (train, bus and bus to ferry) can easily get one to Lisbon.

Thank you for another amazing video! We have watched several of POV walks and love all of the interesting facts. Learning so much ahead of our month long trip to Portugal. Because of this video, we are planning a day trip to Setúbal. The story of Luisa Todi is so heartbreaking and fascinating. I just hate that her remains are under some non-descript building in Lisbon. I hope one day they will be exhumed and properly buried and her contribution to the arts fully recognized by the world. What a great movie her life story would be!! Thanks again for all you do. para mim Setubal é o meu lugar preferido para se viver em Portugal não há melhor, tem as praias mais lindas num Parque Natural da Arrábida como o meu Portinho da Arrábida a minha praia preferida, tem Troia com a extensão em comprimento de praias a 3ª maior do Mundo, tem a linda Praia da Comporta que se vai tornar no caso mais importante da Europa e do Mundo, quando começarem a construir as vivendas luxuosas para atores e atrizes de Hollywood, a lista já vai longa de interessados, o ultimo vai ser o George Clooney no entanto já há alguns que ali tem casa como o Jud Law há vários anos e outros atores de Hollywood, a Madonna fazia praia ali aos fins de semana quando cá vivia não demoará muito vai ter mais um aeroporto bem perto, por isso Setúbal preço e qualidade e local privilegiado, o melhor Peixe em Portugal os melhores Mariscos, as melhores ostras são apanhadas no rio Sado o que mais há são viveiros naturais no Rio Sado, tal como há 2.000 anos era o local preferido dos Romanos pescarem o peixe e fazer a salga do peixe com azeite dentro de Ãnforas para garantirem o sabor e o bom estado e a sua conservação para se comer o peixe como actualmente comemos as sardinhas em lata ou o atum em conserva, que daqui depois seguia para os mercados de Lisboa e para Roma, e o Sal saía de Alcacer do Sal e ali em troia metiam dentro das anforas e o peixe em salga em azeite, conservava durante muitos meses a conservação do peixe em bom estado de se comer.

E pensar que em 2019 eu e minha esposa estávamos em Lisboa e deixamos de conhecer esta linda cidade de Setubal. O motorista do Uber nos disse que iríamos perder tempo e dinheiro, pois Setúbal era uma cidade sem atração turística. Vendo os vídeos concluimos que a cidade é linda e vale a visita. Quem sabe numa próxima viagem iremos. Somos de São Paulo.

Infelizmente para muitas pessoas, como o vosso motorista, "atração turística" = apenas grande catedrais, palácios e/ou outros monumentos grandiosos, coisas que Setúbal de facto não tem. Mas no seu conjunto, Setúbal é uma cidade muito interessante, especialmente a zona central. Fica para a próxima viagem! 🙂 E além disso há um certo estigma em relação às cidades a sul do Rio Tejo, exceto talvez Sesimbra (também já lá gravei um vídeo), por aqui ainda se consideram cidades feias e desinteressantes. Tenho vida ocupada para além do KZbin, e o pouco tempo livre que tenho (e quando a saúde o permite, que nem sempre tem acontecido ultimamente) mal me permite ler os comentários que recebo, quando mais ainda ir fazer correções ortográficas... Não consigo entender todo este drama por 2 irrelevantes erros ortográficos, que toda a gente comete em maior ou menor número, especialmente na internet em que se escreve rápido. Apesar de ter boa memória garanto-lhe que não consigo escrever sem erros (e sem ir confirmar) os nomes de TODOS os locais que visitei no Brasil, Reino Unido, Alemanha, etc. É impossível. Sou uma pessoa de copo meio cheio, prefiro ficar feliz por esta senhora ter visitado e gostado do país, contribuindo para a sua economia e divulgação, em vez de me focar no Z em vez do S. Pelos seus comentários vejo que o que o move é muito mais do que simples erros ortográficos.... Apenas digo que nenhuma nacionalidade tem o monopólio de boas ou más pessoas, e dou as boas vindas a quem vem por bem, sejam brasileiros, australianos ou marcianos verdes.

I actually did 120km on foot in 6 days🤯 I did manage to see majority of what wanted but some places were closed unfortunately:/ Got few tram rides: 24 and 28. Loved Graca, Sao Bento, Bica, Rato as they had more of the local vibe with small shops that I would like to be around☺️Alfama is beautiful and very charming but practicality is questionable for full time living 😬 Downtown great to go out but so lively and loud until late hours… yep checked that 😹 I have placed gifts to God in Belem thanking for your existence 🤪😹 Loved Belem, parks and botanico garden and even climbed to Ajuda, however I was surprised by horrific new addition to National Palace 😳 Loved Sintra and its mysterious character but I need to visit again to see it all. Even took a day in Cascais, saw Hells Mouth, little streets and even got a tanning session😹😹 All in all really loved it and could see myself live there however I couldnt understand how can you live without Tk Maxx🤣🤣

Yes, much much worse, it was catastrophic 😅😳 On the other hand, the interior is the most beautiful of any palace in Portugal, so there's that... Your next mission, should you decide to accept it, is to go up the Sintra mountains to get to the Moors Castle and the Pena Palace, climbing to the Ajuda Palace will feel like a walk in the park 😄 The other side of the river in general suffered from severe deindustrialization from the mid-70s until the late 90s, lots of social issues and poverty back then, lots of scars still. It always had a negative stigma and lower house prices (like south London, places like Brixton, Peckham, etc). Things are now improving and Almada is becoming a bit more interesting. I'm thinking of focusing on the suburb towns south of Lisbon in October: Almada, Seixal, Montijo, Alcochete. Those 4 are going through a period of urban regeneration, attracting investment and well-off expats (they don't care about stigmas) and some areas now compare favourably with the north side of the river. I bet it will be a surprise to some of my portuguese viewers.😄

Yes, although it's not a very touristy city (yet!), Setúbal is still a very nice place to visit 😊 Things are almost back to normal here, other than having to wear a mask on public transportation and other indoor places. Since this monday wearing masks outside is no longer required. Ah, Stockholm, you live in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe! 😃
