I just got two R slings, and your video was outstanding. I feel very confident that I can now set up both rifles and slings with minimum confusion--thanks to you.

After you apply that 180° twist to the front swivel the African carry would still be comfortable and unaffected.

Having started out in the position rifle world, I am a big fan of shooting slings. The big advantage of this sling is that it looks as though it would provide support, and doesn't need a third sling swivel placement like the Ching sling. Though it looks as though it would be slower to get into.

Good video! I love my Andy’s Leather Rhodesian Sling! I put mine on my Ruger American Rimfire Target and will be putting one on a Ruger Gunsite scout build that is in the works. People will look at you a little strange when you sling up on the range with it.

Great video. Instead of cutting the sling excess off and/or taping it, I'd just secure the excess with some Chicago screws as the holes should line up.

This is a great video series, Steve. Thank you. I am hoping you will make one on the CW sling. Unlike the Rhodesian and Ching slings, the CW sling lacks a third adjustment point. It weighs less because it eliminates some material and it is not as quick from carry to shooting because it requires the shooter to relocate the rear swivel. At the moment I am questioning my choice to go with CW slings on my Scout Rifles.
@cliffy1092 жыл бұрын
I don't currently own a CW sling but you're on the right track here. I discussed it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5ecZKSPZt9qmqc at about the 5:50 mark. It is limiting in carrying without the loop. It also isn't as lightweight as one would think. It actually weighed nearly the same as my Ching Sling. I think my particular sling was thicker and more dense than the Ching and I might have been able to trim more of it, but I was surprised at how little difference there was.
@vresor2 жыл бұрын
I've yet to own or use a Ching sling, but my CW slings are significantly lighter than my Rhodesian slings when made of the same material. It's about 16" less material and no buckle that makes the difference. Problem is, saving or making weight can't come at the expense of effectiveness. Much like the GI sling, the CW sling takes time to sling up that isn't spent with the Ching or Rhodesian slings.

Steve, I see in some of your videos that you have taken a number of scout or practical rufle classes. Would you be able to tell me who or where you took the classes. Thanks
@cliffy1092 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. I have taken Randy Cain’s practical rifle and Tom Russell’s general rifle class twice each. I also took a class from the Steyr Academy on the Scout rifle which was taught by Mario Marchman and Richard Mann. I don’t think they teach that one anymore but here are the links to the other www.guntactics.com/rifle.php americanfirearmsacademy.com/5-5daygeneralrifleclass/

thank you for the comment on your other video pointing me to this video. Question: how long total is the sling? I am 6'4" and about 260ish so wondering what length would fit me.
@cliffy1093 жыл бұрын
That depends on a LOT of things. Andy cuts these things with a lot of extra leather so you should be able to customize it to fit you. Adjust the loop first as show in this video. You have to decide if you want to bias it for kneeling, sitting or prone and decide if you want a twist in it. In a recent class, we discovered that stocks with short forends tend to need the twist while long forends do not. Personally, I set mine to be very snug for sitting and that leaves it just slightly loose for prone but fairly easy to get into that position without much effort. Once you get the loop adjusted, make the overall length suitable for carry over your shoulder, again using the procedure shown in this video.

Thanks for this video. I am looking at aRuger American and not sure how to get the third point for the Ching Sling. What model Ruger do you use in this video?
@cliffy1092 жыл бұрын
That is a Ruger American in .223. The forend is short so if you go with the Rhodesian, you’ll want to put the twist in it to keep it from twisting over your hand.
@stevefeeser18912 жыл бұрын
@@cliffy109 when you use the Rhodesian sling does it change the point of impact? Just wondering how it works with the kinda flimsy stock on the Ruger American.
@drmitofit267311 ай бұрын
With the African sling carry, during presentation you are supposed to simultaneously sling wrap the left arm to greatly steady the aim. It’s not a two step process.
@cliffy10911 ай бұрын
Nope. From African, a snap shot is very quick because you already have a firing grip on the forend. If you loop into it, you have to release that grip, put your arm through the loop and regrip the forend. Still fast but not a single fluid step
@drmitofit267311 ай бұрын
@@cliffy109 You are still not understanding the technique. In the carry position the left hand holds the fore end with the sling across the back of the hand. At presentation the sling wraps itself as the rifle is raised. It is NOT a two step process!

Thank you for this video. Had my sling installed all wrong. Good to go now. How tight should it feel when it's wrapped up?
@cliffy1093 жыл бұрын
It should be pretty tight. When you go into prone, it shouldn't be difficult to get it into your shoulder, but it should hold your arm solid without muscular support.

Hey great video! What model scope is that on your rifle?
@cliffy1093 жыл бұрын
That is an older Leupold. It is the Vari-X III 1.5-5X. The current iteration of that scope is the new VX3-HD which has a bit better glass and comes with the CDS turret system. I'm a big fan of this scope.

This looks like a Ching Sling. Is there a difference between that and the Rhodesian?
@cliffy1092 жыл бұрын
The Ching uses three swivel studs or sockets. The Rhodesian uses 2.

Someone has complicated the heck out of something simple. I can use my Vietnam era nylon sling for both uses without adjusting anything. I buy one of these with a Big Horn Armory Model 89 S&W 500 magnum and had to look at a video to see how it worked? And I can only use it for a carry sling or I have to readjust it (which is a PITA) to use as a support sling? I bet wheels in Rhodesia are square. Oh wait, that's "Zimbabwe" now.
