I had the same problem! Had a big pedaltrain with lots of pedals that i used for all the different projects i did in music school. When i started gigging a lot with on of my bands i got tired of dragging the whole thing with me every time and not using 5 or so pedals that i would always have on there. Bought a smaller one second hand from a mate, whacked the essential pedals to get that bands sound on there, bought a second tuner and done! Nice to see your take on it! :)

Can’t wait for the rest of the series. I bet a Line 6 M5 would be a great Swiss Army knife for the “other” board. It may not be the best at anything it does, but it’s at least competent at so many different things, and with such a small commitment of space...
@SuperReasonable6 жыл бұрын
Rob, I have to congratulate you on your signature pedal. Without doubt the best I have and it's the 4th I’ve tried. The rest will not be used again. The only thing that could get me reaching for one of them is that the signature pedal is definitely more effective with humbucker type pickups than with single coils. It may be the Tone King Imperial 2 amp I’m using, but interested to hear your thoughts...

I'd say more mini pedals, but you seem to have a good mix of sizes for what you need! For the third board, I'd try some Mooer or Xvive minis so you can add more sonic range with less space. I've tried the Mod Verb (delay and verb combo) by Mooer, it's killer - I'd put that on the third board. Good to have you back, Chappers!

I love all of your videos you were the first youtube guitarist I ever watched and I've been back for every upload since. on a completely unrelated note if I were to set up a pedalboard it would start with a Les paul going into a tuner then a ZW wah or a KH Wah (they are both awesome) into a Marshall amp of any sort, back through the fx loop with a boss ch-1 chorus a delay (probably a DD-7) and some sort of reverb then back to the amp.
@Qullerus6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob!! What a tonemania!! I would recommend you for your Dorje pedalboard to get an Ampli-Firebox. It is really really handy and you can use it in many different ways. As an IR loader, as your spare amp... Cheers!!

If space is at a premium then here are my suggestions: I really like the Keeley Caverns v2 Delay/Reverb combo. You can toggle either the delay or reverb on and off individually on the fly and with both together you can get a very nice echo-shimmer sound. In terms of modulation, I've heard good things about the Matthews The Chemist. It's another combo pedal which combines Chorus, Octave and Phaser. All three can be tweaked and switched on the fly.
@FiascoForever6 жыл бұрын
The Mooer Ocean Machine is a fantastic Delay/verb. It does everything so well with presets and midi support. Its also designed by Devy so you cant go wrong.

Grab a fulltone fulldrive 3! It has 3 drive settings and a dynamic boost function. A dyna comp is great for more cleans, a flashback with tap tempo is great. A digital reverb by boss is pretty standard :) but Chuck a tube screamer if you can!

As other have mentioned- that Dorje board could seriously benefit from some GigRig quarter master switching, both to keep the sound as clean as possible by not having multiple buffered pedals in the signal chain and in allowing you to switch from one pedal to another with one switch. With that many drives, there'll surely be some you never want to stack. I second the suggestion of doing a colab with That Pedal Show! :)

Moog MF103 phaser. Got one myself, killer pedal, does nice phaser, univibe-esque tones, and even some rotary when run in stereo. Totally recommend it :)

@GaryGreene19776 жыл бұрын
Others have recommended it, but Rob, you really need to start looking at a switcher, especially with the signal chain for the Dorje board. Many of the new ones out aren't nearly as complicated as say the G2 or such, so you can get simplicity without having to stomp all over on the board to get the sound you want :)

I don't know how much you'd use it, but the Meris Ottobit Jr is SUCH a fun pedal, it's a bitcrusher with a stutter and sequencer effect. Let's you get some fun glitchy effects and some real fun video gamey sounds all in one. Plus you can use the bitcrusher part as a pseudo-fuzz
@13thBassist6 жыл бұрын

Rob, l also love Octave fuzzes! I thought the recent Anderton's shootout video was great. I know you don't want anyone to tell you that there is an Octave Fuzz better than the Dunlop but you might really like the Roger Mayer Octavia. He created the effect, Hendrix actually used his pedals and the Dunlop is basically a clone. Mayer makes his stuff in the UK and I know you tend to like UK manufacturing. Finally, it was great meeting you at the NYC Union Square Chapman Guitar's Event. I appreciate that you look time to meet everyone.

maybe you should get a dual distortion pedal, something like the boss angry driver. It's a combination of both the blues driver and the angry charlie (which i know you like) It'll save you space and cover alot of ground. Keep the immerse or maybe get a dispatch master wich is also a really good delay+reverb which will save you space again it's a great pedal tho, almost like the "favorite button" from a strymon timeline+bigsky. those two pedals alone will let you cover alot of ground =)

A fuzz pedal, overdrive, wah, delay and reverb and maybe a looper as a practice pedal board.
@HeviNova6 жыл бұрын
Jack of all trades board I use. Tuner, wah is off the board, vibe/phaser, boost/overdrive, distortion, pitch-shift/chorus/flanger, delay, reverb. Wah is not on the board. Power supply underneath. When using my own rig the distortion pedals are swapped out for a 2 channel amp + boost switch with all the time effects going into the effects loop. Reverb may be swapped out for another time effect if amp has good reverb.
@ianalderman92906 жыл бұрын
Not sure how hard it is to get over there, but Rob you should try out the Tone Freak Naked Overdrive. Built in collaboration between Tone Freak and Dave Friedman. You absolutely would not regret it! Similar layout to the trusty Tubescreamer, but with a little toggle up top that lets you choose symmetrical clipping, asymmetrical clipping, or a diode lift which in essence is no diodes involved. Best way I can describe it, is essentially a "more" pedal. Anyways, I really enjoyed the vid Chappers and wish you well and success as the journey of tone and sounds continues along!
@ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy6 жыл бұрын
For a band setup, the best pedal board is as simple as possible. It is less things to haul, and less things to go wrong. In my own case, i am all about amp distortion anyway, so that complete lack of overdrive/distortion pedals eases simplification. My pedal board as follows, in order. 1: Tuner 2: Mids-boost (Because Orange amps don't have a mids knob, so I make am effectively giving it a mids knob.) 3: Noise gate, because even amp gain has that annoying hum. 4: Two-channel reverb, so I can switch between standard reverb and shimmer reverb. 5: Riff recorder It is simple, functional, and does everything I need, or want.

TC Spark? It's a booster pedal, but it also has the option to press the button down for longer than 1 second and it will only boost the signal as long as you hold it down. So you can really pop out the riffs that you want to.

I play mostly pop punk and hardcore guitar. My current pedalboard is a Boss DS-1, Joyo Ultimate Drive, TC Electronic Polytune, and I'm adding a TC Hall Of Fame in a couple weeks as well. They go into my Orange Micro Terror. For the music I play, I just like a good bit of mids, slight gain, and the Joyo Ultimate Drive honestly works wonders to push the amp. I also found Van McCann's settings for his DS-1 and applied it to mine which I really dig through the Micro Terror. I just like some distortion, reverb, and you have to have a tuner. That's my personal ideal pedal board.

Electro Harmonix Big Muff. No doubt. would never have a board without one. You gotta get something to boost it with though because it doesn't sound quite there (if you know what I mean) without it. I have a fairly small board (made from recycled construction materials). I built a patch bay (4 channel) so I can daisy chain the boards for modelers (like AX8), direct input, or run effects through the appropriate send/return on my amp or mixer. Have you considered using a patch bay to allow for pedals in the front of the amps and then send/return loop? Might even be easier for the board(s) you want for Anderton's and Chapman demos. Just curious.
