Even though the Jordan 1 was very popular in the skate community, it wasn't really because they were a lot better than skate shoes at the time. It was mainly because they were cheap as hell. Crazy to think that back then, skaters would buy like 4 pairs of AJ1s for the price of one pair of Vans

A friend of mine has a pair of Air Jordan 1s that was a prototype that MJ gave to him in 1984 in Wilmington, NC. They were made before the "winged basketball" logo. They just have "Air Jordan" stamped where the logo would ultimately go. They have a black toe instead of the red toe like the ones sold in stores. Oh, and they're both signed too. I can't imagine how much they're worth.

I will always have the stance that reselling shoes meant to be more publicly available is stupid. Buying more inventory for yourself, taking away the ability for someone to buy the shoe who will actually wear it is just bullshit to me. I have been lucky enough to build a sneaker collection for mostly retail, but aside from my A Ma Maniere Jordan 1s, I refuse to pay for another pair for resale value. Making basic color ways so hard to get is something I still dont understand why Nike does, I don’t think they should overdo like, sacai or off white or like those sorts of things, or special colorways, but making every single shoe so limited is a problem as it makes it so hard bc the people that get them, don’t even wear them

Im not sure, but I heard it was made as an inexpensive model. Made them out of Canvas because it was cheaper alternative to leather and would give the option to offer the shoe to a larger market at a cheaper price point. Hope that gave you some fuel to further investigate… big fan!

The 1s and dunks outsoul is by far hands down the best outsoul for skateboarding ever. They unintentionally made a PERFECT skate shoe out of a basketball shoe. I didn't try them for over a decade because skatecore guys tend to shit on "hype" anything and I couldn't be more disappointed. I'd have an entire collection of retro vintage skated in 1s/dunks if I wasn't swayed by lame ideology that nike = bad because they are a big hype company. Now that I'm older and rent is so high I can barely get a pair every six months. I haven't never felt more FOMO over anything in my life and I honestly wonder how much better I'd be at skating because in seven months I've completely surpassed my "old self" in skill.
