Instead of getting a cage like the topeak ninja I just get a inch wide piece of tube and slide it around my bottle cage to the same spot as the ninja is. It can keep a large multitool without any issues and it is free if you have an old tube lying around.

I've always preferred to carry the weight on my back, with a small camelback, than on my bike. The bike feels nimble and since they weight is on my back, is like it's part of my body.

I do the same but i need better tools and am still saving up for new brakes, tires, shifters, bars and bottle cage. Recently (one month ago) i cheaped out on cleaning/ getting a checkup on my bike and now im paying the price i now am saving up for repairs and upgrades on my trek precaliber (not trail rated but they lied ive been riding rough trails almost enduro rated for two years and now it decides to crap the bed so it works needless to say) but the camel back pouch was punctured on my last crash ( landed on a cactus and started useing my grandpas canteen from vietnam and it fits perfectly in my camelbak so im not complaining but id prefer if some of the weight is on the bike

Hello Seth. I would just want to add another tip. On the handlebars you can take the cap off, and put a tyre plunger with a bacon strip already with it. Then if you have a puncture just take that plunger straight out of the handlebars and plug the leek then inflate with a pump, and you'll be back on the trails in just seconds.

I'm new to this scale of Mountain Biking, Needles to say I have a 15 year old big box store bike with all upgraded parts. My youngest son had his training wheels off a while ago and has been my riding partner. I build bikes and have worked on many high end bikes, just never gotten a chance to own a nice MTB, I just sold my road bike to pay my bills from hospital stays. Sold my $2,00 dream machine road bike, broke my heart I just got back into biking Thanks to Seth's KZbin Channel, I suffer from Seizures among several other conditions that limit my riding that I did twenty years ago. It's nice to know that there are people like him out, That are positive and informative, and not bike snobs.

Great video as always!👍 I have this little canister from specialized that fits in a bottle holder. It carries my crank brothers multi tool, tire tools, co2 cylinder w/the head, xtra links and it also has a little compartment inside the lid for patches, band aids, money etc. if I need 2 water bottles I just put the canister in my jersey pocket. Never know it’s there. As far as water from a stream goes, I only use Geigerrig/Aquamira hydration packs with a filter on it. The only brand I trust after landing in the hospital with another brand. As far as the urine test, go to KZbin and look at the video of the runner who tested Geigerrig’s filters with a hydration pack full of pee. Anyway, Thanks for another awesome video!!🚵🏻

I just routed my first dropper post in a trance 3 frame that is not supposed to accept a internal routing. i went inside the frame around the bottom braket an up the seat tube. I made myself something similar to the parktool routing blue string with a piece of string, a small washer and two tiny but very strong magnets I had. I glued one of the magnet to the washer, tied up the rope in the hole of the washer and voilà ! Also GRAVITY helps a lot to route around the BB. I turned the bike almost upside down so when I let go the magnet from the outside, the inside one would naturally fall in the BB toward the seat tube. then i fished the first magnet with the second one again using the same trick (washer + super glue). I don't know if it is a hack or more juste technique but i thought I would share.

Your videos are always top notch...the KZbin MTB editing master! On some of the less expensive bottle cages, no matter what you do the bottle still doesn't fit perfectly snug, and it will rattle a bit at times or even try to fall out on big hits. I take a thin can koozie and cut the bottom out of it and slide it over the water bottle. It makes it fit snug, prevents ANY rattle, AND helps to keep your water cool for a little longer. Win, win, win. :-)

things I take on a long distance (4-8 hours depending) ride - 3 liters of water, about three different multi-tools, two patch repair kits (tubes bro), a high calorie food store (fruit works wonders), torch, bike lights, jacket, a phone, a powerbank for said phone, cash, ID if something really bad happens, a roll of toilet paper (for science) and a travel first-aid kit. Bear in mind that I ride alone and I don't have a car so some of these things are there because of those reasons. It's also super tricky to travel with so much weight in a backpack, but these things I carry from bad experience without them and have saved me a lot of grief, so these tool ideas here are amazing and I'll have to invest in some of them.

I'm a fan of my One Up EDC pump. I like that it's always on the bike so there's no thinking involved if I ride packless, and if I ride someone else's bike I can just bring the pump with me and be covered. The storage container fits a few zip ties, a brake pad, patch kit. If you go with the CO2 caniser, the end of the pump unscrews to be a CO2 inflator head.

Seth, if you're in Grand Junction, you gotta go say hi to the guys at MRP! They're a great shop with a great group of people, they're literally 10 minutes from the Lunch Loops. I was there last May, I made a field trip there from Moab to get my MRP fork rebuilt, and while I was there they gave me a demo and sent me off to ride LL while they worked on my bike.

I’m cheap, I use a saddle tool bag and pack what I need in it, which can be a surprising a lot. My only other exterior mount is my bottle and a hand pump. Served me well for over 20 years.

Glad you mentioned the specialized there, I have a 2018 specialized and utilize the hell out of SWAT, and have the chain tool remover in the stem. I was wondering why it was not part of the review. I did not realize it would not work on more bikes, which is a shame and a market Specialized would be wise to adapt broadly.

I think this was my mistake. Apparently you can just buy their bottle cage and make it work, although some models work in an internal compartment which is proprietary.

My multi-tool is connected via the cage, while some of the s-works have it in a seat connection. It does not have a chain tool though, I had to purchase separately the specialized tool that goes in the stem. The set up you have shown on your trail bike has it all in once place, that is nice. Though I do like being able to put the tube, pump and tubeless repair kit inside the downtube of the bike.

The EDC plus a Specialized SWAT top cap chain tool is a nice setup. I also really like the SpeedSleeve Ranger for tube, co2, inflator, money, zip ties, mech hanger. Does not rattle and is easy to remove and use. That said, the EDC is not great in wet environs. The bits corrode quite badly.

Cool how you make use of the underside down tube bottle mounts on your full sus, problem here in the Uk is that mud can damage pumps and cover your water bottle in crap, need to use other mounting solutions when space is too limited around shock for bottles...

Great video Seth, the topeak ninja also comes in a MTB version with Thier multi 20 tool in it, you can buy it without the cage too, it comes with bottle boss mountings so you can use your own water bottle cage, I've been using one here in the UK and it's terrible weather for a year now with no issues of water getting inside the case, I needed to replace my still functional, but 20 year old cool tool, if anyone remembers them :)

Though they aren't being produced anymore, if you look real hard you'll find what I consider to be the best multi-tool ever made: Park Tools MTB-3.2. Amazing and compact combination of high quality, useful tools.

The topeak Looks like a Walmart version of the specialized swat tool. Their cages are also great if you’re one of the people who has a bike that doesn’t have enough clearance to pull the bottle out of the top of the cage. And they work with any bike. Mine has stayed on the bottom of the cage no matter what I’ve done to it. Also they have a chain tool that fits in the headset

MaxFix seems like an ok idea. The EDC, too. It may not be pro, but I keep my tools, etc in an army butt pack secured to the handlebars. Spare tube bungeed to the frame (inside a UV bag). My Life Straw filter bottle fits my bottle rack.

Very interesting and cool products, that simplify your bike life! After years of fully riding, I decided to go with a good geomtry plus tyre hardtail again. I can ride it as rad as on an enduro and this is great. It is more fun!! Simplification!

Syncros also have Taylor Cage with Syncros HV 1.5 pump. That one has strain relive hose. Rode with journalist testing it and fixing flat trail side, he was satisfied with pump performance.

Finally! Someone who bites back towards people who don't know that velcro is the first brand name of a hook-and-loop system. Fun fact: In Swedish, it's called kardborre (burdock) after the burdock plant that inspired the Swiss inventor to create the attachment system. Germany, Norway and probably other Germanic languages also use their respective word for burdock to name the system. Unfortunately, since many companies use English as business language, "hook-and-loop" is commonly replaced by local pronunciations of "velcro" (just like "mesh", "webbing", "foam", "tarp" and "buckle" replaces domestic words that have worked perfectly before). I want to say that is likely because of laziness, lack of imagination and ignorance ;) Do I sound bitter? Good :D Anyway, thanks for pointing out the error and sticking to the proper terminology :)

If you were disappointed in the Ninja T8+, you could use the Ninja TC Mountain. It uses the Mini 20 Pro if you need a tool with more ... tools. (Chain tool etc.) If you need the tire levers, you can change the tool-cage to the one fitting the bigger tool from the Ninja T Mountain.
