The town themes in Etrian Odyssey have this really jazzy, groovy vibe to them, and that goes double for the night themes. Oh lord, saxophones galore in those. It's probably the number one reason I like staying in the town so much, doing mundane things like buying weapons, storing items, and all that. If you can make your players enjoy navigating through status screens of all things, then I feel you've succeeded as a composer.

Etrian Odyssey as a series is basically a cult classic. It's a niche genre of dungeon crawlers like old school Wizardry games that don't get a lot of new games these days. But of that genre? It's easily among the best to me. They're very difficult games and they won't be for everyone, but for those people it IS for, it's an AMAZING series. Unfortunately, we haven't had any new news about the series for a few years now since the series grew with the Nintendo DS and 3DS.

Kinda anime version of Darkest Dungeon(Although Etrian Odyssey came first), including how your party can be completely fxxked with one bad move.

Since you asked, Etrian Odyssey is a series of first-person turn-based dungeon crawler RPGs. You build a party of five adventurers from dozens of classes and are sent to explore the game's various labyrinths while drawing your own map on the DS/3DS bottom touchscreen. Some people dislike that last aspect, but I find it surprisingly relaxing, despite the punishing difficulty. Definitely in my top 3 game series, thanks for covering it!

Etrian Odyssey is one of those series on the channel now that's just an 'Ooo! treat time!" time for me haha. And this ones proves no exception. Come to think of it I feel like there hasn't been that many town themes on the channel overall.

I love the combination of originals (or in this case a remake) plus super arranges in these reactions

It helps that all these "Super Arrange" versions are the 3rd take on the song (Original Version -> Untold Remix -> Super Arrange), and they're able to do it with NO limitations. No compression, don't have to worry about song length or saving cartridge space, able to use any real instrument instead of a limited selection of samples, and so on. edit - re 12:15 Hilariously enough, the Towns in Etrian Odyssey games ARE menus. You select a shop or other destination (the Guild Hall, the Town Hall or equivalent, the Labyrinth Entrance) and uh... that's it. It's nothing but next with some pretty artwork (and Yuzo's amazing compositions) to dress it up all nice and purty.

Koshiro is absolutely a fantastic composer with a lot of range, I don't think anyone can disagree! I'd like to add that these Super Arrange albums all feature guest arrangers and not Koshiro himself doing the music. This track, for example, was arranged and performed by SEGA's Sound Team Band (which is something I also find really cool in particular: seeing artists from different companies involved in arranging music from "outside"). All of the Super Arranges have a really stacked lineup of guest arrangers so it's no surprise each and every one of them is incredible.

One of my favorite of the Super Arranges. Love a good call-and-response brass.

Whenever I had to cook and figure out recipes, I made sure it was during night so I can listen to this sweet theme and hear Regina say "allright it's ready" 😍. EO2U offered so much sidequests. Quite possibly the best EO

You are right when you mentioned that its more like a menu theme, because etrian odyssey is a dungeon crawler rpg and when you are chilling in the town, you actually manage your party goes through a menu

Loving your reactions, including to music I'm unfamiliar with.

Sad I missed an EO Premiere. But as others said, it is a dungeon crawling RPG, with a rather punishing difficulty. For that same reason, most battle themes are set to inspire perseverance or dread, then then dungeons lull you back, while the town themes are there to be exciting or groovy. Of course, there are exceptions just as well as subversions. The series is extremely niche, but for that same reason you can expect all fans of it to stick to it like glue.

The town actually kind of IS a menu. It just has a lot of life to it. "Is the game as good as the music?" Well, I absolutely love the game, but even if the game is a 9.5/10, the music is an 11/10. Pretty tough act to follow.

Etrian Odyssey 2 is set in a sea port / pirate-ish town. The music doesnt reflect that but I like it nonetheless
@kevinnguyen47112 жыл бұрын
The seaport town is in EO3, though. EO2 has a more traditional high fantasy kind of town.

Even if just for the saxophone reaction, I'll be waiting for Dark Twins of the Feast too. So... Etrian Odyssey 2 is, in my opinion, the black sheep of the Etrian Odyssey series. The original had a lot of balance changes due to how Etrian Odyssey 1 was played, but it made it horribly balanced as a result. The Knight of Fafnir (the remake) similarly made some poor balance changes, but this time in regards to how powerful the Story Mode's unique class is. Due to that class's power, all bosses were made to be damage sponges and thus really annoying for Classic Mode.

The only Etrian game that is kinda bad is the Etrian Mystery Dungeon spin-off, but the music in that one still goes hard as fuck

Wow I guess EOIV really isn’t too popular. I’ve been hoping to see a tune from that game, but it’s been songs from every game in the series BUT IV. The battle and boss themes are killer, so I hope someone eventually submits those.

I mentioned it on another video, but City of Radiant Ruin is literally what got me into the series. Was embedded into an EOIV review on a gaming site, and I randomly decided to give it a listen. Really hope someone sends that one in.
