Northeast Frost Street is composed by Yuuta Ogasawara, a new composer for HAL Laboratory who joined in 2018; The Battle of Blizzard Bridge is composed by Hirokazu Ando, a veteran composer who's been around for the series since 1993. Northeast Frost Street is intentionally similar to Winds across Earthfall, a song composed by Ogasawara in 2018's Kirby Star Allies; it's not identical, but the idea was to make this kind of song (a slow-paced 6/8 ballad) a recurring motif in Kirby. The Battle of Blizzard Bridge is a mini-boss rush level, and the music changes as you progress along the stage and the battles get more intense. It uses a few snippets from Running Through the New World, one of two main motifs of the game (composed by Ogasawara). In turn, this variant of the motif is used in the final boss theme, Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit, also composed by Ando (you listened to it before!).

So in general, Kirby and The Forgotten Land is kind of the start of a new era for Kirby as a franchise, as its the first game in the series that full 3D. As such, its very conservative with how often it reuses old motifs. Off the top of my head, these are the only times in the whole game that use old motifs: 1. The opening stage of the game uses the Green Greens motif mixed with this gams main motif. 2. The invincibility theme makes its return, and is mixed with the main motif for the final quicktime event. 3. My Friend and The Setting Sun from Kirby Super Star is used in Meta Knights battle theme. 4. King Dededes Theme is remixed for his battle theme as usual, and its Masked variant is used for phase 2 of the rematch. 5. Morpho Knights motif is mixed with the main motif for his battle theme. 6. The secret HAL rooms use medleys of old motifs. Shockingly the final boss theme, Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit, doesnt use any old motifs, not even Green Greens or Kirby’s Triumphant Return, both of which frequently make appearances in the final boss tracks of the series (CROWNED uses both). Instead, it features a 3/4 version of the main motif and pretty much the entirety of Battle of Blizzard Bridge. Pretty much every other song in the game uses entirely new melodies and motifs.

Northeast Frost Street and Battle of Blizzard Bridge are tracks that play in two levels of the same names. Both levels are found in Forgotten Land’s snow world, Winter Horns. Northeast Frost Street is an abandoned, snowy town, loosely based on London I think. Battle of Blizzard Bridge is a series of mini boss battles that take place on a huge bridge during a blizzard.

Thanks for the shoutout! ❤ Northeast Frost Street is kind of a spiritual sequel to a song from the previous Kirby game (Kirby Star Allies) called "Blowing Wind on Earthfall", which is effectively an autumn version of this song. I hope/expect a spring version in the next Kirby game, and a summer one after that

@GBDupree

You know its interesting how you mention that we can notice the leitmotifs because we've been listening to them since childhood. Because that is the exact reason I starting loving music in the first place. Most of my childhood I didn't really understand music, there were songs I liked sure, but I never really listened to music much on my own or noticed that songs were unique for their notes not just the general sound of them (I remember as a kid saying that I didn't really like music!). But then at some point (I think when I was around 10-ish years old) I had a Kirby song stuck in my head despite not having heard it in years and couldn't figure out which one it was, since I couldn't remember all of it, or even how I could remember the tune without hearing the actual instruments of it. So I went searching for it and rediscovered how much I enjoyed the music of the games and how much they meant for me, it was my first nolstagia trip I suppose you could say. Then I realized more properly what music was, so I could hear a remix of a song and still recognize it because it was the same tune or shared the leitmotifs of another song. I then had to get an MP3 player so I could listen to these songs more because I didn't want to forget them like I almost had. So Kirby music is really important for me for that reason. Also I hope someone recommended "Winter Wafers 6" (I'm not sure if there is a more official name for it, that's the only name I've seen) for your winter themes thing. Its also from Kirby Return to Dreamland but is completely distinct from any of the ones you've listened to, and its really great but oft forgotten since the game is older and the remaster that came out didn't seem to reignite the love for this song. This kinda makes sense as its only in 1 room of 1 stage in the game for some reason, so its hard to even hear the whole song before skipping it. Its really cool because it starts out with this music note that almost sounds like harsh whistly wind, and then has this harsh intense Bass throughout despite being a calmer song. So it portrays the beauty and harsness of winter together very well. I remember a comment on the youtube video of the song a long time ago said the song evoked the idea of nolstalgia, and how bittersweet it can be at times. I thought that was very poignant for me, given what Kirby music did for me, so the song has been one of my favorites for a long time now.

Ooh, thank you, just checked out winter wafers 6, gosh what a great track. That person was right, it is a very nostalgic sounding piece even though I've never heard it before. Reminds me of space stuff with the whistling and also Ristar/Sonic with the 16-bit sounding bit.

So, for context of these songs Northeast Frost Street is played on the first stage (and I think one or two more stages) of the 4th level/world of the game, Winter Horns. It's a big, abandoned gothic town reminiscent of London, covered with snow and flooded with freezing water. You walk across this town's streets, the ceiling of the houses with harsh wind, inside an icy flooded metro (Although it doesn't play that song, it plays Metro on Ice wich is a theme I really like), etc. Battle of the Blizzard Bridge, however, plays only on the last stage of Winter Horns before the boss stage. As the tittle sugest, it takes place on a giant bridge, where you fight a miniboss gauntlet. You can go to the normal path, wich is beneath those bridges, or you can go to secret path (wich isn't very easy to find) where you fight on the bridges, and you have to fight a double battle with the minibosses (like, instead of one miniboss each round, you fight two of the same miniboss each round, I don't know how to explain it 😅). And a miniboss gauntlet level is pretty common in Kirby games, starting in Kirby's Adventure (The second game of the franchise). Personally, Winter Horns is my favourite world in Kirby ATFL. I just love all the songs in there, the ambience it has and the background. I hope you react to more Kirby themes in the future! :)

Northeast Frost Street is probably my favorite level theme in the whole game. The sort of pause into the full orchestra at around 2:32 stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it, like Goddamn. The titular Forgotten Land is a planet in an alternate dimension that was abandoned by its inhabitants an unfathomable amount of time before Kirby showed up, so the general theme is post-apocalypse-ish. Tons of abandoned cityscapes in this game in a variety of biomes. This was my first time hearing The Battle of Blizzard Bridge since the last time I played the level so I had completely forgotten the sound of it, but man that is such a Kirby track lol. While Frost Street is a regular level, Blizzard Bridge is like a boss rush. Kirby is just peak. I love this series through and through, and that absolutely includes the music, these composers are absolute monsters. I think my top 3 most listened to video game series OSTs are Guilty Gear, Pokemon and Kirby, and those also happen to be probably my top 3 favorite series in general lol. Kirby is just so jam packed with such fun gameplay snd jamming music and surprisingly good plots, I think the series really deserves to be in the conversation when discussing the greatest videogames of all time. Edit: just wanna add I wanna squeeze in Minecraft as my 4th I can't believe I forgot it I listen to the music so much

Yes the continuation of Kirby!!! Jesse just to relieve you I hope you know we don't expect you to be able to notice motifs, I've been a massive kirby fan for years and they still slip past me 😅 I think that's what makes the use of kirby motifs so good is that they make motifs sound like entirely new songs. Heck there have been Kirby motifs that now have sub-motifs (if that's not real it is now). Also forgotten land has one of if not most original kirby OST's for a Kirby game. I believe there are only 3 or 4 songs that use any regular motifs.

Oh yeah, the music in this game is also really awesome! And Northeast Frost Street is a normal level in the game while the Blizzard Bridge is a boss rush on a frozen bridge. And maybe you could also react to the soundtracks "Welcome to Wondaria" and "Roar of Dedede"? These soundtracks are also very nice!

This stage is so good, the northeast frost street, it's such a well designed stage, not hard at all but the obstacles and puzzles are so good. Had to repeat the level three times because i kept missing stuff, but the music was worth it.7 Battle of blizzard bridge is also a stage but focused on a midboss rush, you fight against all the midbosses of the game as you travel through a long bridge.

As many have mentioned, "Northeast Frost Street" and "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge" are the first and last stages of the same world. And while "Northeast Frost Street" is a normal stage, "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge" is a special stage where you fight a series of bosses. So the atmosphere of the songs is completely different. And the jazzy chaos of "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge" is probably due to the influence of the music from "Ripple Star Theme" (which I requested in the past), a similar series of battle stages' song in previous titles.

The Kirby series has a history of unique ice world themes that don't match what you'd traditionally expect to hear for ice world themes. Battle of Blizzard Bridge could be considered one of those, while Northeast Frost Street more so matches the traditional idea you'd expect to be conveyed from an ice world theme. Northeast Frost Street is also the first Kirby theme you've heard that's by neither Jun Ishikawa or Hirokazu Ando, who are the big composers of Kirby. Instead, Northeast Frost Street is composed by Yuuta Ogasawara, who just joined the series in the mainline game before Forgotten Land.

because i live in an area prone to blizzards most of the common video game "winter feeling" tracks fails to capture the full picture of winter to me, yes it is beautiful but that is in addition of being very harsh and unforgivable a song like Okami's "kamui of the northern lands" is closer to how winter feels to me

What about another Kirby song called "Winter Wafers 6". Its interesting as it's still beautiful and calm, yet has an almost harsh intense bass and the song starts with this almost windy whistling sound. This I think makes it sound closer to what you are looking for (I also hope he does a reaction to it as well because it's so good but oft forgotten since it only appears in like 1 screen of one level).

I remember recommending you listen to Northeast frost street years ago when you first heard Forgotten Lands Final boss theme. It’s one of my absolute favorite tracks from the game filled with so many amazing songs. This song NAILS atmosphere, but in the calming chill way as opposed to more ambient atmospheric VG music. It’s just such a beautiful track that I can always find something new to enjoy Also, what you were saying about the composer, Jun Ishikawa, saying he doesn’t make his tracks with real musicians in mind, that still holds true. This song was actually written by one of the new composers to Kirby, Yuuta Ogasawara! I don’t know too much on him since he’s newer, but he’s been making these types of “vibe” tracks. The second track, Battle For Blizzard bridge, is actually handled by an old timer, Hirokazu Ando. He started with the second game in 1993, Kirby’s Adventure. He also composes most if not all the final boss themes you’ve heard thus far. Only the best for Kirby it seems. Glad to see more Kirby on your channel 🔥
@Huy_YT
@Huy_YT 3 ай бұрын
Heyo, I got a right guess for the next VGM Vibes. Neat^-^ The first song is basicly Kirby taking a happy stroll through London in winter, honing in the winter thematic for the next levels. The second song is a miniboss rush where you fight some common minibosses in one arena after another on this frosty bridge. Kirby games are constructed very cute...until it gets suprisingly epic/horrifying. So if you hear a battle theme, you can probably imagine some sort of epic duel and if you hear anything else it's probably a fun breeze at whatever kinda stage theme Kirby is on with a bunch of food just laying around for Kirby to eat :D

Kirby just blew my mind again LOL. "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge" is has that crazy chaotic vibe that most people would never expect from a game about a pink ball of fluff, but is now a hallmark of the series. This one in particular reminds me of the PlayOnline BGM that plays when you're installing updates (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4uxiZKHg5qemtE). It's super jazzy, feels oddly out of place but also not, and you could listen to it for hours at a time without getting tired of it.
