You tell Josh I was watching you reset the snare. Just about that time, I said the damn beaver running off. Then I saw him pulling him off. He's messing with my mind. Good dry set.

Lol. Watch it again and you will notice a big chewed nob right behind him. I had to edit a few things out and he learned a lesson about pulling a beaver backwards through a beaver feeding area.

Snares, to me, have to be one of the ways of trapping that takes a lot of skill and experience to use. Understanding paths and sizes and such. Cool set and catch.

Just like the bees. the key is understanding the animal's behavior that you're after. A lot easier than the bees. lol. Think I have them figured and they show me that I don't.

Gonna try some snaring next season for predators. I'm surprised it works for beaver, figured if one animal would chew out it would be them.

I like snares best, down here there are a lot of ADC trappers who don't know how to set Conibars properly. So they attack the dens first, catch 1 or 2 beaver and educate the rest of the colony to stay away from those square things. I have a dozen Belisle 330s, but have never used them. I primarily use snares & footholds. I set for educated beaver and assume they're all very smart. On a pond, you never set the dens first. Always start with water sets, caster mounds and dam breaks. You can use a bodygrip on the dens, but I think snares are better, harder to see & aviod and look like a breakable vine. You can use snares any place you like on land or in the water. Here bodygrips have to be under water. Snares are also faster to setup, I can do about 30 in 2 1/2 hrs. Oh and almost forgot, you can carry more snares than you can bodygrips. 😁👌

I agree! They are deffinatly a great tool to know how to use. when first setting up and I am wanting the whole colony, I try to go in with the least amount of disturbance by me and only set blind sets in their travel ways. After a few checks I will start with scent and breaks to pick up the rest. Snares are the only way to go after educated ones.
