Good looking sets ! Another great video. This cold wet weather makes it tough for keeping traps operational . First year trapper here..Hope to be able to trap for coyotes next season.

Excellent video- You should make a DVD for sale sometime. You explain things very well and right to the point. Once you get the sets in and as long as you don't get freeze/thaw (meaning it stays damn cold) I found it is easy to keep the sets working. Hard part is digging the bed LOL

Just like bedding traps here in PA but with a foot of snow on top of the dirt. I like the drill for the stakes. In unfrozen dirt in early season I use Berkshire anchors but use wolf heavy duty anchors with a heavy driver when it freezes. Do you pull the anchors back out or just cut them off?

Hope this is not a dumb question, never trapped before. When you set your anchor, how do you get it out after a catch?
@finsfeathersandbone28232 жыл бұрын
Usually you remake the set. Your set gets better after a catch because they’ve left there scent!

Yes, I bet he sells that stuff in conjunction with someone. I bet you'd be able to buy whatever you want. He's clearly a smaller and growing deal, maybe just try to help him out because of all the info he gives away freely and not ask him to literally lose money giving you more free stuff?

Can somebody tell me, what type of soil makes the best wax dirt. Meaning, sand, powered dry clay, sandy loam, appreciate any suggestions? Alaska John
@CoonCreekOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Sandy will use less wax. But use soil that is close to the type you'll be trapping in

How do you remove the cable and anchor from frozen ground?
@finsfeathersandbone28232 жыл бұрын
Typically when ground is frozen solid you don’t. Just bend out your J hook and remove the trap, mark it with an underground locate flag or anything of your choice then in spring you know where your anchor is.

@@jeremyholtzer762 I know wax dirt waterproofs the set , but will it prevent freezing under the set ? Been using salt for years. Never used waxed dirt before but already made 2 drums for this year's season. So tired of doing tests after a steady rain.

Pan tension! See that? Educational. So eh, how do I adjust the pan tension?
@danielherring93244 жыл бұрын
Loosen bolt the pan is attached to the trap with until it free falls. Then slowly tighten it until pan doesnt free fall anymore. Set trap and take a 3 ft and 1 ft long piece of 2 X 4, gently set the 3 ft piece down on center of pan. If trap goes off tighten the pan bolt and repeat. You want the trap to go off when both pieces are on the trap and not when just the 3 ft piece is on there. They should form a "T" when both pieces are set on the trap. 2 X 4's are approximately 1 pound per a foot. So 3 to 4 pounds is 3 to 4 feet of 2 X 4. Or you can just buy a trap pan tension tester.

Most serious trappers do both, unless they’re plain out lazy. It’s much more rewarding catching them in foot holds also, you’re actually out smarting them by your combination of lures and bait.
