What state do you work in? I love the amazing thing you are doing in the classroom. As a first year ASD teacher I don’t know where to begin.

What is the best way to do these sorts of things with paras that may have been around for a long, long time and you are new to the school and county.

Definitely invest time in staff training and showing them how to run parts of the classroom!

If you are the new teacher with paras who have been in the classroom and have seen teachers come and go, how do they respond to the training manual and staff binder? They might be thinking that they know these things and be offended that I've put it together for them. Even though we are a team, there are a lot of big egos. I don't want to start the year offending anyone and I want to respect their position and longevity. thoughts?

I was in that exact position. I explained to my paras that I wanted everyone on the same page, for them to have a reference to know how to do things if they had questions. We have collaboration time to talk through sticky points in our day and how to handle them as a team. I always take a team approach and consider their input. We come up with goals as a team - and that's in the staff binder!
