I'm pretty sure you put more than 250 ft.lbs. on that axle nut. It looks like the torque is to keep the nut from loosening and a little extra , as long as nothing strips or breaks, is not necessarily a bad thing. I'd hate to be the next guy trying to take that nut off that axle! I am glad you could order the shims you need. I'm pretty sure paying someone to make them for you would have cost way more than what you paid. It is great the way you find solutions to the challenges of fixing old equipment. I think the torque setup was some of my OCD!! Because yes sir, the nuts were finger tight when I tore it apart!! Oh my, yes....I don't envy them for sure 🤣🤣🤦🤦🤦 Thsoe shims scared me....but praise the Lord they were still available!! And the dealership was about 12 bucks cheaper per shim too!!! I didn't really think about that fact until after I climbed my big tail down off the wrench🤣🤣🤣 Especially with those few complimentary bounces 🤦🤦🤦But thank goodness they held, and yes sir it's going back together nicely! I really can't believe how easy the parts are, what dealers stock, and the choices there are for these!! I think we really scored in that aspect!! Turned out pretty well Iust say!! We added to the socket behind the scenes and checked with a TA, it was within a few lbs....so I can't complain 😁😁😉😉 Oh my, the shims are theost expensive part yet, and praise the Lord the were available!!! Hate to keep boring y'all with the repairs, but have been a few asked for detailed videos!! Won't be long now for sure!! You're making good progress Nelson! Glad you have a dealer close by. The only close dealer here is John Deere, the closest Agco or CaseIH or New Holland dealers are all about 40 miles away. I'm sure with that 4 foot pipe wrench you got 250 or better on that nut. This is a real nice project. It's the kind of thing that gives a guy a good feeling when it's done. Even fun while you're working on it. Making tools like the Frankenstein socket is always a good time. 👍🙂

The buddy and I spoke of that too!! It's so hard to really get a great measurement with that axle in the way, thought about a side socket on the pipe. Yep, I'd say that's about 250 ft lbs right there, LOL. Nice thing about the tractors I have is I can get parts for all 3 at the New Holland dealer and there are 2 dealership close by. My IH, NH, and Ford all come under CNH.

Figured it would be a good conversation piece Keith, can't really argue not knowing the exact specs 😉😉😉 But let's just say my OCD allows for follow ups off camera and we were close for sure !! The wire is generic, but the gas is a "special" blend let's say. The ole Lincoln loved it, but I am gonna have to tinker with the Hobart some it doesn't like it quite as much! Frankensocket worked perfectly. I think I have the same Rigid wrench too. You sure got lucky with the dealership being so helpful. Great video my friend.

You were just about exactly right Mr Wendell!!!!! We did check by welding a socket on, then borrowed a TA 😉😉😉 I think I was having a little to much fun with those bounces 🤦🤦 Finally getting the hang of that little Hobart!! The ole rigid gal doesn't see a lot of action, but always the perfect fit when she is needed!!! I have to say I agree, Tim is amazing!! Thank you sir for the kind words and always being here!! @@Pennies_on_the_dollar You bouncing on the pipe wrench reminded me of the first time I removed the two piece buds on an '85 C-60 I had. Not realizing the left side of the duals had left hand threads, I couldn't for the life of me get those things to bust loose the same way as you were doing on the Fords axle nut. Then just for the heck of it I tried the other way and holy cow.....I found out the hard way they are left handed on that side of the truck!! I had the long bud wrench on the outer nut, resting on an old RR jack and the 4' pipe wrench and about a 4' cheater on the handle. I could sure hear 'em squeak as I was bouncing and bouncing on it in the wrong direction !!

But then I saw an "L" stamped on the end of each inner bud on this side and a "R" on the end of each one on the right side. Chevy musta knew there'd be guys like me !! (-;
