Back your anchor in by motoring in reverse, so check it holds. As you have a small motor, if it is going to blow, first attach anchor to the stern a motor ahead, gradually onto full power. Then transfer ancho rode to bow.

So jealous of your new headsail! Mine is well past its best..sure doesn’t help trying to get upwind…and just in from a 12hr slog up a Scottish loch…wind on the nose the whole way

When moving off a pontoon, use a rope loop from the outboard hull stern to spring off. As you put your thrust into forward it should turn the boat to face away from the pontoon.

Never a dull moment at Navy Service when the mistral blows - too many people don't know how to dock when there's wind :D
@sailingjoa2 ай бұрын
We think that most of the times it’s better to stay away from the port when it blows like this
@gfimadcat2 ай бұрын
@@sailingjoa hard to do when you're coming for a haulout I guess - I dunno, I've had the same thing happen at Navy Service, same spot even, people just don't realise you need to move different when the mistral is going :D

Keep posting guys. Keep going as well. You two would have to be one of the most refreshingly genuine couples on the sailing channels. You have the whole world in front of you now after all your hard work!

Thank you 🙏 it’s very kind, we don’t have the every week posting video stamina as others, we go slowly ☺️

I loved seeing the smiles of pure joy on your faces, well done guys, my only worry for you guys is that small 8hp outboard, 🎉🎊
@sailingjoa2 ай бұрын
We also thought that is not enough but the 8hp works very well for this boat. But clearly two diesel engines would be better 😅

Congrats on your first sail and anchorage.... I found your channel two days ago and have watched all your videos from the beginning... I'm amazed at all the hard work the two of you put into getting JOA ready for sail... A couple of suggestions for future videos... I'd love to know how you two met and came to be sailors... you seem like an unlikely couple to be sailing in France... also, We havent seen a real "Tour" video of the JOA showing her interior layout, and all her amenities... ps. glad to see your subscriber count is going up... keep up the great videos...

If you cannot afford fenders grab some old tyres. .. like the fishing boats.. it will protect your GRP from concrete scrapes. But wrap it with tape at 12, 3, 6, 9 to reduce hull marking 👍🏻🧙🏻♂️ or carry a plank you can hang along side that can also use for boarding. An idea? For cooking peppers use a gas jet burner gun in a metal bowl. Be careful. Good to see you sailing out on the water . 🫡🧙🏻♂️🇬🇧
@sailingjoa2 ай бұрын
Hello Clive😃, our problem is not the wall, the problem is the other side. At the moment we only prepared fenders for the wall and forgot that other boats that come to dock with 40 knots of wind. That sounds interesting and more efficient way to burn the peppers!
@clivestainlesssteelwomble76652 ай бұрын
@@sailingjoa Put your fenders outboard if you want but old tyres hang flat against the boat sides and don't Mind damage .. and are less likely to get pushed out the way exposing the hull . By gas jet burner I meant a butane blow torch. Professional chefs use them for doing some flamed finished dishes. You can use an open pan to burn the peppers on that way and it won't block your gas stove jets 👍🏻.🧙🏻♂️
@markthomasson5077Ай бұрын
And it will keep other boats away! ps, you need to drape a cloth between your boat and hull…but exposed on the outside

I like more when I Cook red peppers with a little onion, and when you finish sautéing them, as the final ingredient, canned tuna! A tasty warm salad!😊
