Takes me back ,I lived just outside of Ely in the late 60's and guided and trapped in winter. Now trapping the mountains of North Idaho. I deeper snow to contend with but warmer temps. I'd rather have cold temps than 4 or 5 ft of snow. I would like to try one more Minnesota trapping season, but at 71 I'd better plan on it soon. Thanks for the video.

Enjoyed the video. Something that worked for me, with snares, Was to take a length of light grey sewing thread and tie it loosely from one side of the snare to the other. It will look like a cobweb or thin piece of grass. Tie up near the lock and drape the thread across the loop. I did this with coyote snares and it will get caught up on any cats that travel the same trails. I set my snares with a ten inch loop, but a cat will walk right through a coyote snare. The thread will close the loop on any cat going through the loop and it is ignored by the coyotes. I have had red fox slide through a five inch loop that was set on a woven wire sheep fence without triggering the snare to close. He didn't quite make it through a second snare fifty yards away. Had him by the hips.

Hey thanks for the tip. I've never heard of that. I can see how that would stop them from sneaking through and now making it catch the small animals that would otherwise sneak through. Thanks for watching and for the tip

Always nice to get some fresh grouse. Glad someone is having some success with thr cats. But sorry he took a spot you found. Is he using footholds or snares? I want to set footholds but this year isn't going to work out for me to do that.

Believe me, distance from home has no bearing on the fun of trapping .But you can only catch the animals that are in your area. You can always dream of catching the impossible. 😊Just outside of our city limits which is about 3 miles from my house ,I have caught in a rabbit snare in a rabbit trail of course a rabbit, partridge, squirrel, mink, marten, skunk, believe it or not an owl and a porcupine.Trapped beaver, otter , muskrat, mink, weasel and snared both fox and coyote. And unfortunately an accidental catch of a deer .So if your patient enough and trap to the age of 73, there is a good chance that you will catch the critters that are around!!😂. So have fun and good luck doing so.

If you want a bobcat use beaver meat with a little castor your snaire the bottom of your snair should be six inches off the ground if you are putting your bait on the ground this is how I did it for year and been VERY successful and Another thing I find when you make a cubby they don’t like things over there heads makes them nervous I think good luck
