Allen, thank for making such a clear and concise video about the Trane dip switches. I have the exact same unit. I just dropped $30K with an HVAC company to replace my duct work and a 2 ton system on one of two zones. The air flow is blowing my hair off... I'm hoping that it is currently set to the max flow setting so that we can slow it down by just changing the dip switch. By the way, the 2 ton unit is servicing less than 600 sq ft (two BR's and a Bathroom). Prior to the job, I told the contractor I was concerned that the unit was too big,

At 2:05 cooling is not 1,2 and heat 3, 4. Look below where it says switches 1-4 are cooling airflow, basically heating too.

Arent you supposed to kill power on any system with dipswitches before changing them? just checking

Great video Allen. Learned something new about setting it on Heating will pass this to the guys at RNC.

Correct. These guys don't understand the switches. The switches control fan speed. Wet coils (cooling) allow less airflow than dry ones (heating) for the same fan speed. The off-on-off-on setting will give a nominal 343 cfm/ton with a wet coil, not 390 cfm/ton.

Great video guys. Your video has led me to do some research into my new system because I think it is configured incorrectly since all of the switches are still set to factory settings. The tech installed a TEM6A0B30H21SBA with a 4A6H6030H1000AC 2.5 Ton outdoor unit and a 10Kw BAYHTR1510BRKCA heating element . Seems like he did not follow any of the things you talked about to set our CFM's at all since there are no options for off-off-off-off for switches 1 through 4 for this unit being paired with a 2.5 Ton outdoor unit. It seems to be blowing at absolute max CFM's, which seems like way too much compared to our old system. Perhaps he is just used to installing this with a 3 ton unit since Normal for that size unit is indeed off-off-off-off.

If first two switches are for cooling then why is on/on for dip 1 and dip 2 353CFM,401CFM and 451CFM? Believe all 4 are for heating and cooling for air flow, that is why dip 3 and dip 4 are on the chart. Look at chart a little closer and you will see switching 3 and 4 will effect CFM, have to match up all four dip switches. But I do agree on no delay, with humidity in Florida I don't want system blowing humidity back into the house.

Agreed he is not setting this up right its not heating/cooling

I just did this. My installing contractor did not change anything and the unit was set for a 4 ton outdoor condenser and the fan was set to normal 400 CFM. I changed it to march the 3 ton outdoor unit and set CFM to 350 cfm

They just installed a unit just like this one but I don't know what to do if I leave it as it comes or do some additional configuration. ?

I'm not sure about the accuracy of setting dip switches 1-4. It seems modifying the dip switches 1-4 adjust the cooling/heating CFM. Per Table 4, he was setting it to LOW, by adjusting dip switch 2 and 4 to on. Also, the manual states to cut power before adjusting the dip switches. I appreciate the video nonetheless.

Hi Allen, I have a 1998 Trane unit that recently had the blower motor and board replaced. The tech had a hard time with it but got it running last week. However it feels like the blower is way too powerful, blowing lots of air and shaking the handler. I have adjusted the DIP switches but no help. What else could it be? Can I get you or your team out on a service call?? I'm in TAMPA as well by the airport. I don't want to call the other tech back. Let me know

Biggest challenge is verifying with trane the proper board and blower motor assembly, assembly as in motor and module both from the factory. Vs only changed motor without the module. Check with trane on the proper motor assy and board numbers, then we need to look at the numbers on your motor and board to see if they are the correct ones. Google trane, model number, and parts diagram.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it out. The blower wheel was not balanced so it the motor shake and seem to be run faster. I put it a new blower wheel and things are good.

Isn't the air handler supossed to run for a short time after the thermostat turns off to dry off the coils? Mine shuts right off. What do I have to check to fix this?

Depends on location and climate, blower running after condenser is not my choice in fl, it reevaporates some moisture off coil and puts it back in home. Out west in arid climates its probably a good thing.

I didn't think this info was correct, if you look at your own example on minute 4:18 it shows that if you use only dip 1 and 2 it changes nothing as far as low, normal, high. You need all four dip switch settings to change speed. Then those carry for heat and cool.

Your TEM4 is quite a bit different from the TEM6. The motor it’s self has different speed wires that you will have to switch to acquire different speeds. Generally you want a higher speed for cooling and a lower speed for heating.
