Hi Basia. I was wondering if you could do another video about working with Gold-filled jewelry and the art of soldering them without burning off the gold layer? There are not too many videos about this at all, and I know you’ve done a couple, but I was wondering if you could you do more with step by step instructions and tips/technique? I know that it’s an “Art of Metalsmithing” in itself to not get that visible gray/silver seam. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Of course it is! 😀 I'm so happy to have a more solid support for stamping, disc cutters and other tools like that. While the ikea kitchen trolley is great, it wasn't enough for some of the jobs I needed to do

Pepe makes a great looking bench. Mine is over 20 years old...and I got it used. It is a solid piece of furniture, but doesn't have the smooth drawers and of course, it is much loved with plenty of burn marks, marks and whatnot. Starting with a clean, brand new bench is such a luxury. Enjoy it! :)

well, I did manage to not add any burns to any of my benches over the years😁But I'm a very tidy person and I was always scared of causing the fire too. However, I still have lots of marks from other jobs, because that's what the bench is for :) Wham it with a hammer, file with files etc

Oh, absolutely! It really isn't big and I thought I'd have to remove my desk, but turns out everything still fits so well with some extra space to spare. I'll have a video showing my workshop makeover soon, so you'll be able to see more clearly how the space looks like now and how big the bench is compared to other items :)

Hello Basia, Your videos have been so inspiring and helpful for me for awhile. I've looked at most details, but is there a video on how you designed your logo? I watched your video on packaging but was curious if there is more in-depth info on your Patreon, since I've been wanting to subscribe beyond the $1 level and seeing your skill level I'd love to learn more about all you offer, I love your channel. Thanks so much.

I am looking for a bench, just clicked on the link and it was $650 plus a shipping charge of $288 😢 The bench looks fab but I think Durston will work out cheaper due to shipping… it looks lovely though 🤍
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 7 ай бұрын
Of course, while this bench is fantastic, we have to consider shipping and customs, so shipping across the world may not be the best option unfortunately. That's when we have to consider local options to make it easier and cheaper ❤️

Is this mostly solid wood? Is there any MDF / particleboard? If so in what parts?
@PepetoolsUSA
@PepetoolsUSA 7 ай бұрын
Hi! Happy to chime in here. There is a high pressure wood board used on the bottom of the drawers and on the skirts (sides of the bench). The reason is simply due to the fact that wood expands and contacts overtime time, so we were not able to use hardwood in these areas. Aside from that, every other piece is solid wood with a beautiful finish. It weighs in at over 100lbs. Thank you for the question!
@DB-zp9un
@DB-zp9un 7 ай бұрын
@@PepetoolsUSA thanks for the answer.. I should have clarified that I expected that to be used in the drawers.. And watching the video closer I see the skirts.. That helps!

I just got one and it must be a dud. The draws on mine are nowhere near as smooth as what you have shown. They are not tracking properly and have far too much side movement. the top draw sticks out by 5mm and the bottom draw is difficult to open. I guess mine was made Friday afternoon. I have to buy new rails and fix this thing as it's frustrating to get anything out of the draws.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 3 ай бұрын
Oh no... I'm so sorry to hear that! Before you try to fix it yourself, please contact Pepetools customer service. Don't void your warranty before contacting them. From what I've heard they're quite responsive and I'm sure they'll try to help. It's worth a shot, especially when the product doesn't meet your basic expectations 🙏

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing That's good advice, unfortunately it cost me A$550 to have it shipped to Outback Western Australia so returning it is more than problematic. The table is nice but the draws are so badly aligned that I have to open the middle draw and put my hand underneath to open the bottom draw. When I saw how easily your draws glided, I knew that I was just unlucky. Pepetools contacted me a couple of hours ago as I left a bad review, wanting more info on my problem. I've sent them a video with me trying to open the draws and am waiting for their response. I have good carpentry and mechanical skills so it's not something I have done. I just got it this morning so I'm a bit disheartened. That's why I have been looking up videos about the table and I stumbled on to your channel. At least you got a new subscriber out of the deal :)
@wetcat833
@wetcat833 3 ай бұрын
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing PS. I've just rewatched your video and I noticed that your table has totally different draw rails than I have. Mine look simpler and flimsier than yours. I guess they've been doing a bit of cost cutting on their later stock. Not cool.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 3 ай бұрын
That's not good... But I'm glad they contacted you and hopefully they'll be able to help! I think they should send you new rails, because obviously exchanging the table is nearly impossible at this point, especially that you're so far away. I really hope it will be sorted, it's a shame you experienced this situation. But yeah, I think sending the rails would be the best solution, so fingers crossed they might do that. Good luck! Let us know how it ends 🙏

during my German apprenticeship we had benches with a semicircle cut-out, with a "fell", a piece of leather under it - it catches the filings. I kind of miss those type of benches. No one in the US makes them.
