Those setups looks amazing. I've got a bioactive enclosure for my Northern and its been going quite well. The burrow under the basking slate looks really nice here. I tried to do something similar for mine but he would always burrow around it until the slate started falling into the burrow. Wish I could get native Australian plants like those here in the US so easily.

Thank you so much! I’m going to do an update on the enclosures soon - most of the native plants didn’t work out too well. I really like the basking slate too, he has made a good little burrow under it

Hey there!! All of my bioactive tanks are native to the animals region (for the most part) and I've found a few little successes here and there. Sourcing has been a nightmare of course, but I found the easiest way is to integrate yourself into your local plant community. A lot of my native species have been special ordered by an awesome nursery we have in town, but I trade and buy on FB groups a lot too and have made some friends in the process around the country with better resources and networking than myself. The only way I can keep them is to have source plants to propagate, so I have way too much houseplants but I rarely lose a species and it's helped me learn the growing patterns of the plants. I recommend a dedicated plant rack with lights lol!! Biggest help is to mimick the native soiles to their regions. A lot of this info is available in books and in research data libraries like college access stuff, I found a lot of great info on Australian scrubland biology and chemistry within the soil. Takes waaaaaayyy longer, but it makes each vivarium so dynamic and unique to take care of! :p

thank you for sharing this! please update us in a few months and let us know how these are going. i am a firm believer that a bioactive setup can work for these species if done properly :)

@@Kaityscichlids do you have any native australian plants i could possibly find in the U.S. to use in a bioactive blue tongue skink enclosure?

@@vega_os Hmm, I'm not too sure if any of them would be available in the U.S. or not. This website has the names of many of the plants I used on it, so you could maybe take the list to a nursery to see if they've got any of them or anything similar www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/clean-and-green/green-home-and-community/sustainable-gardening/free-native-plants-program/participating-nurseries/native-plant-species-for-residents

Hey Anthony, I did an update on these if you're keen to see 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6OZknaFi9-ge9k Some of the plants didn't fare too well, but the clean up crew went well and the lizards really like the substrate. I ended up adding some more desertty and hardier plants to see how they go 😬

How did it turn Out? Do you still need to clean the tank yourself?
@Kaityscichlids
@Kaityscichlids 2 жыл бұрын
I ended up changing to succulents and cacti because the native plants didn't fare so well. But the succulents have gone well. This is the update I did on them kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6OZknaFi9-ge9k

Looks great 👍 I've had trouble with plants in my bearded dragon setup. What plants did you use and how are they holding up?

I actually ended up doing an update on this! The plants didn't hold up so well so I ended up swapping them for cacti and succulents and they're doing much better. This is the new video kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6OZknaFi9-ge9k
