Thank you SOOOO much for this explanation!!! I've watched 3 other videos today on multi-out in Studio One and you are the only one that mentioned the "Output" symbol you have to click in the Instrument Editor. Pretty important step to not omit if you want things to work. You are a life saver!

This was perfect, I have been struggling with this for several hours today. I have been making notes, getting closer each time, but hadn't achieved what I set out to do as a template for Kontakt in my Studio One projects until I took a break and found your excellent tutorial here. I had looked at a few others earlier in the day but they left me none the wiser. Kontact is a superb engine but it can be bafflingly difficult to figure out under the hood much of the time. Thanks once again and thats a sub from me to your channel.

Thanks for this. Took a fair bit of searching online to find how to show the Kontakt mixer in the first place. I have, however, been unable to get the mixer in Studio One to function in any usable way. I mean the signals appear as expected but I am unable to do anything with the channels. Have to hold "options" (Mac) to move an individual fader and when I add an effect to a channel it adds to all channels. I suspect the issue is within Studio one and routing of the individual channels. The video is several years old now alas. Got me started though so thanks for that.

I've been struggling with this for about a day trying to figure out how to get more than 5 stereo outputs from Kontakt 5 Player in Studio One 3. This is what I did to get it to work. Open up Studio One. Load Kontakt 5 Player onto a new track. Open "Outputs" dialog to add more output tracks. Add 16 stereo outputs (or how many you need) starting at "Kt. St. 1" and click on "ascending output", "delete existing tracks", AND "make this your default configuration" buttons. Hit "Okay" to create tracks. Hit the Exclamation button (!) in the upper right to restart the engine. Now close Kontakt, delete track and instrument from Studio One, and then open a new instance of Kontakt on a new track. You should see all of your stereo tracks listed in the output pull-down at the top of the window. I hope this helps anyone scratching their head over this issue.

Thanks! After much searching today, your great tutorial finally got the foundation of making multiple tracks with studio one/kontakt. I'm still having issues actually, but using ver 2 of Studio One. I don't have the option to select "aux" when I add outputs in the Kontakt output plane. I just see "st.1"/"st.2"/ and undefined, but just one of those. I ended up getting a decent drum mix within Kontakt, and saving final mixing until I have the final drum take - but I don't think it should be so difficult. I was under the impression it was part of SO's core features - and Kontakt seems to have infinite possibilities. They need to simplify, I'm just a musician over here!

Hi Funny Fella’z When I selected Kontakt in the video at 0:15 I had 3 different options to choose from: Kontakt 5, Kontakt 5 16out and Kontakt 5 8out. Kontakt 5 gives me a virtually unlimited amount of outputs, Kontakt 5 16out gives me 16 outputs and Kontakt 5 8out gives me 8 outputs. It sounds like maybe you somehow selected a version that allows you to only have 2 outputs. Could you please look into that. And please keep me posted.

Thanks for the video! I have a question: The sound of the drum set is not the same after rooted into multi outputs. Why is this happening?
@SupercyMusic6 жыл бұрын
That's a tough question 🤔 Separating the signal into many different signals obviously alters the signal flow, and that might influence the end result, e.g. the way effects are being applied might be different. That is the only thing I could think of right now. 🙂

In order to record each instrument (kick, snare, hi hat etc.) it's own track-for processing, bussing, parallel compression etc, I did the following: Set the kontakt generated tracks to output, to a dummy bus (instead of "Main"). Turn the fader all the way down on the dummy bus. Create 11 tracks, and set the input the corresponding kontakt generated track Is there a more elegant way?
@SupercyMusic6 жыл бұрын
Hello Let me say this: the method shown in the video makes the most sense to me. But of course like always there are many ways to achieve the same goal. What is the best or the most elegant way to do it is entirely up to you, it completely depends on your preferences.

I'm talking about something else buddy. AFTER you do what's on the video, if you want to record individual tracks. The additional steps you would need to take

Supercy when you have a miced up drumset you get indivual editable audio tracks (instead of midi). Recording them as I mentioned would allow you to mix the drums as you would with a real set
@6noteblues6 жыл бұрын
Good point. Here's my question/comment: In this video, the drum components of the drum kit are sent to their own individual Channel (not Track). But if we're able to send and insert effects on each Channel as is described in this video, does it matter if the total audio outputs are sent to one "Master" track? Would we really need a separate Track for each drum component for a midi instrument? In the meantime, I'll try your suggestion and see what the benefits might be. Thanks for your comment.

Hi thanks for your comment. Obviously there are many ways of setting up any plugin instrument in any DAW. In this video I just wanted show people my way of setting up Kontakt 5 in Studio One and explain why I did what. But of course you might prefer a different way of working with Studio One or Kontakt 5, and that's fine. In fact I would encourage anyone to develop their own way or working with their equipment. But that doesn't mean that you cannot still learn something from others. And just hope that some people will learn something from this video, that's all.

Do u have to do this every time u open contact... and do u have to do it separate for the piano and other set ups?
@SupercyMusic7 жыл бұрын
The setup is saved with the song, so everytime you open the song the setup will still be there. Also you can save a mixer setup in Kontakt itself as a preset.And to your second question:The output of any plugin that you open (in one instance of Kontakt) will go through the same mixer setup. So you basically have to set that up only once. Not so of course if you open a plugin in a separate instance of Kontakt, in that case obviously you would have to setup the mixer again.I hope this answers your question, if not please let me know.

@SupercyMusic7 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's difficult to tell from my position what might cause this problem, but there is one thing that immediately comes to mind; could you please check this: In Studio One open the "Studio One" menu (at the top), choose "Options" then go to "Locations" and then open the "VST Plug-Ins" tab. Here you tell Studio One which locations on your harddrive(s) it should look/search for Plug-Ins. And make sure that "Scan at startup" is selected, so every time you start Studio One it will look for (newly) added Plug-Ins. If you haven't already please try this, and please let me know if this fixes the problem.

maybe dumb question but why not just control this stuff through kontakt? What's the purpose or benefits of duplicating the channels in studio one mixer?
@SupercyMusic6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anand, First of all: there are no dumb questions, and this certainly isn't one. In fact, it is quite possible to make a kind of submix in Kontakt and just use that in the mix. However, the benefits of assigning corresponding tracks in the Studio One mixer is that you will then have more control over the various sounds coming from Kontakt. For example, you can then add an (Studio One) effect to one of the sounds while the other sounds coming from Kontakt stay unaffected. And you basically have full control over things like panning and volume right from the Studio One mixer, and you don't need to open up Kontakt every time you need to make an adjustment.
@imjustplaying90816 жыл бұрын
Supercy thanks for this, sometimes I should probably do a mix and just find out.. I realised what you're saying a week ago when I used a loop through kontakt, kinda difficult to take the loops individual instruments and assign a channel though

I'm at an absolute dead end right now and it's keeping me up at night. I'm using an instrument within Kontakt player called The Orchestra by Sonuscore. Outside of Studio One my mod wheel and pitch bend work fine, in terms of hearing it back in real time. Once loaded into an instrument track in Studio One, the automation for the wheels are picked up and I see the lines being drawn but I don't hear it in real time nor do I hear it in play back. This is a massive issue for me because I'm trying to create vibrato, volume swells etc... PLEASE anyone that can help I would literally venmo you money to talk me through whatever is happening. If you want more than 5 stereo tracks in Studio One, there is a way: *1)* Create a new session in Studio One. *2)* Load Kontakt and configure the Kontakt outputs exactly as you desire them to be, 16 stereo outputs for example. Avoid naming the outputs. * *3)* From the "Presets / Batch Configuration" menu, choose "Save current output section state as default for" > "All Formats". *4)* Remove _all_ instances of the Kontakt plug-in from the session, or simply close the session and create a new blank session. *5)* Load Kontakt again and load the instrument you wish to use (the given instrument may need you to set it to run in a multi-out mode and route each of its sources to the individual Kontakt outputs). You may need to press the ! button as seen in the video should Kontakt be failing to see its outputs. *6)* In the Studio One wrapper UI that Kontakt exists within, click the Outputs "|->" button at the top and tick the first 16 stereo outs (and the 4 aux outs if you need them). *7)* Test Kontakt: now every stereo channel in Kontakt should also be operating in stereo inside of Studio One. ** Happy music-making! * I would avoid naming your channels inside of Kontakt as these will become the default 16 outputs for any kontakt instrument you use, and not all instruments will need a "Kick" and a "Snare" output for example. Instead, name the outputs in Studio One after step 7. ** Since we've set the defaults, in the future you just need to load Kontakt into your new songs and the outputs will be ready to work as one might expect out of the box: just do step 6 and you're done. This example was based off my findings getting Wave Alchemy's Revolution plug-in to output 16 stereo outputs to Studio One. ❤ _Want to give back?_ ❤ A little crypto would make me happy! ❤ *BTC:* 3QPJDuBkuLUJDUrFbzJmT8nT7jGbMdZWCg ❤ *ETH:* 0x39064e392FF0762Ee191c8868fEdea50594ff194

Brucie, Thank you. However, you do not want the bleed you are displaying on all channels. To eliminate the pre fader bleed, DO NOT assign different inputs. Keep them reporting to the default stereo track. This will also make editing easier as the notes will be together in one edit window. The outputs will still be assigned as you did that correctly. The way you sounded the snare and had all of that bleed on every channel defeats the purpose of a discete mix. The bleed will still occur on your overheads, and room channels as it should. Take care!

I'm a newby so this might be a newby comment but why do they not just make stand alone vst when it comes to drums and just let the users make separate tracks for each part of the drum instead of going through another hoop of setting up Kontakt on top of it? I know in Studio One you have to create an instance of Kantakt as a multi instrument before you can save it as a preset in Studio One, I’ve used an older version of Kantakt! How do you do this? Simple! Setup Kantakt the way the author of this video instructs and then grab another virtual instrument and drop it on the Kantakt instance and Wa La, Kantakt is a Studio One multi instrument, you can delete the instrument that you dropped on Kantakt, now you save your Kantakt instance as a Studio One preset!
