This was a very great setup! There's just two things I recommend. 1) If I were you I wouldn't bury the hide, water bowl, and skull so deep in the bedding as they would get in the way of the boa while it borrows. This really isn't that big of a deal but it's just something I noticed. 2) I would also recommend put some reptile carpet or something at the very bottom of the terrarium. Even if you have a thermostat, the glass can easily overheat and neither of us wants your boa to get burnt! Again, this was a very great setup! I am not trying to criticize this in anyway and I'm happy that you clearly know what you're doing! :)

Thank you!! And yeah I've been thinking of putting a piece of repticarpet over the heat pad to avoid the glass getting too hot so I'll definitely do that! It always scares me how he can get so close 😩

Looks cool, but as another KSB owner, I'm gonna let you know that pretty set up will be destroyed in a matter of hours. They will bulldoze everything and just redecorate the entire tank.

From what I remember, never put heavy stones in for a burrowing species as they may burrow under neath it and collapse it onto themselves and get injured

Got those of you who are saying you will get a tank like this for you sand boa I just want to point out a few thing. 1). It really comes down to the preference of your own sand boa. Some absolutely love large enclosures with lots of room to burrow but other can get stressed out. This may lead to bad shedding and not eating properly so make sure your sand boa is happy with a larger tank. 2). I do not recommend putting sand in a sand boas enclosure. Although they are named so the sand can get stuck in their scale s which may lead to infection. As well as when feeding they may digest the sand which could also cause medical problems. I didn't mean to rant and I'm sure comet absolutely adores his new home but I'm just warning people looking for advice that it really just comes down to preference of your own snake since they all have different personalities. My sand boa personally love a his smaller encloser and was too over whelmed with his larger one that is now home to a different snake. It also comes down to the sex since female sand boas grow significantly larger than the males. I hoped this helped a few people. I loved the encloser and the video though.

Just a heads up for those who watch it: The statement that they don't use hides is actually pretty incorrect. I have a pair of Saharan sand boas who you'll always find in their hides or under the rocks in their tank. They also tend to come out and be more active when they actually do have hides/decor and stay burrowed when they have a bare minimum tank

What a cute cage !!! I really love how you placed the plants with the stones...! Definitly some good inspiration for my next decorated enclosure :D (Quick side note ! While it is true kenyan sand boa do not need a hiding place, I do recommand giving one with like, a closed bottom. Inside you can place some damp aspen, and you'd be surprised how often you'd find your cutie in it..! It tends to help my (non-literal) babies shed a lot :D I even have a KSB whole LOVES sleeping on his hide and decorations, only burrowing after a meal when he need belly heat. Truly a strange little bugger..!)

My cat had sat on the screen and broke it, never fixed it because i thought the sand boa would mostly be in the aspen, which was true, but he escaped out of the hole. i don’t recommend putting so many decorations in his tank as they tunnel everywhere and they can get injured if they run into any obstructions.

sand is safe for sand boas! the only time snakes open their mouth is to eat, and occasionally yawn, so theres no risk of him accidentally swallowing it like there would be with something like a leopard gecko or bearded dragon where they have been known to lick sand :)

If they eat a little bit of sand it is ok, but not shovel mouth fulls. If they can break down and digest teeth, claws and bones a few tiny bits of sand will pass as well. If this is still too concerning, either feed them in another enclosure or set up the tank like this one and feed them on the aspen side of the tank, they can swallow and pass aspen easily.

I just got my own KSB and i want to ask if anyone knows. If i feed him in a tub either outside or inside the tank (i know people keep going back and forth on this im aware) without any sand in it, would it still be a problem for the only substrate to be sand. I know keeping the shape is another thing, but like i said first ksb idk how often you see them reuse borrows. I might end up doing something like this in the future.

Sand doesn’t hold their burrows well so i wouldn’t recommend only sand. And my personal recommendation would be to feed inside the enclosure. It’s less stressful on the snake, but ultimately it’s your decision!
