Open the inspector on the track where you have your instrument track and on the left there is a thing that says "OUT" which shows the virtual instrument like "Mai Tai" or "Presence" and on the bottom of that it says "IN" that is where you have to choose "MPKmini"

I ended switching to the Akai Mini Play but, since Studio One has enough sounds and percussions, now I'm looking for the Akai Pro LPK25. It's cheaper and will do what I intend to with Studio One.

You totally can. I have set up my mk 3 in studio one 5 so that i can use pad and keys simultaneously. In the editor autopopulated the pads (more on that in a sec), set the pads to channel 1 and the keybed to 2. Save it import it to your mpk. (Then for gods sake ignore their awful editor software). Set up your mpk as follows via this link : www.akaipro.com/kb/akai-pro-mpk-mini-mkii-complete-setup-in-presonus-studio-one-prime/ In studio one when you set up an istance of impact and whatever synth etc set them both to receive from your mpk but set Impact to receive from channel 1 of it and your synth to receive from channel 2 of your mpk. Now without my screen infront of me im pretty sure the pads populated the c2-c1 pitch ranges (impact bank F?) So just drop your samples on your pads and have fun. As long as you have your impact and virtual instrument engaged you can use both at the same time 😁

If you didnt know where to find the settings i mentioned. The left hand side of your screen to the arranger window where your vst instances are. If you pull those down to expand them, there is the channel settings for where you can see what the instance is receiving midi information from (should be all by default). Change to receive from mpk and the channel routes i mentioned. Happy beat making 👊

i have the early version of mpk mini without the nob and when i click on "receive from" nothing pops up but my interface.. Any suggestions on what i should do?

It's a bit difficult to troubleshoot without seeing your exact setup, but... if you're on the PC, are you hearing the windows audible notification that it recognizes the keyboard when you plug it in to the USB port? Try restarting your computer. Try a different USB port - if you're using the older model MPK, maybe it doesn't like USB 3.0 ports. Try it in a different DAW, this would be the definitive answer as to whether the issue is specific to Studio One, or with the MPK/computer...

Hi, great video, i could do with some help! when i press keys gently the sound is very low but if press firm then the sound is good! but sometimes on key presses it sometimes skips sound and not sure what it could be! the keyboard is new and with other software i dont have this issue! just seems to be with studio one 3 artist! is there a setting to fix the problem i am having?

Saving loops and samples to each pad is actually the function of the DAW that you are using. The MIDI keyboard does not save or produce any sounds, on its own. Once you begin working on a track in your DAW, all of the settings and sounds will be saved with that song, and to each pad, of your MIDI controller.

Do you have videos setting up the NEW Akai MPD218. I contact Presonus a few times. If I set it up as a new instrument the knobs work if I set it up as a new co trolled the pads work or vice versa. I can't get it to work with the pads and knobs at the same time. Thanks in advance

You need to add them BOTH in. In the 'Options/External Devices' menu, you need to have the keyboard added as both a keyboard and control device. Hello, I have a Korg M50 workstation , and I can't figure out how to connect and route it so I can use the sounds in it into and with Studio one 3, do you know how?

The Korg M50 has two 1/4" TS outputs on the back of it that you would need to connect two TS cables to, and then route these cables to the 1/4" inputs on the audio interface that you are using with Studio One. If you are currently only using a USB cable to connect the M50 to your computer, this will not transfer sound, only MIDI data.

Is it that easy on any midi keyboard (Alesis VI61 for example)? I've been considering getting a Nektar for its integration, but that is way easier than using the midi learn window I was trying to use with the Line-6 FBV.

Yes, it's pretty straightforward to map the sliders/knobs as I show in the video and this can be applied to most any keyboard. That being said, looking at the Alesis VI61k, that thing has a whole bunch-a-buttons! So, even though it's easy to map, you'd want to be prepared to spend a lot of time going through setting it up. This is most likely due to your buffer size setting. With a song open, you'd need to go to the top menu and choose "studio one/options..." and then choose the "audio setup" tab. Within the window that opens up, click the "control panel" button and lower the buffer size. Usually "128", or so, is a good place to start. Keep in mind, however, if you are on a slower computer, this may introduce crackling/popping noises. Especially if you are using your computers built-in audio card.

I haven't gotten one yet, but my guess would be to put a snare on Impact, go into Impact, hit the drum pad you want to use, right click on the snare in Impact, and then it should say something along the lines of "add to pad #" or something like that. That's just my guess.

When I use the Akai MPKMini preset in Studio One v4, Joystick Up/Down does not work as Mod Wheel. If I bring up the options in the VST wrapper, it just says it's receiving "K1". I'm using the factory preset for the MPK Mini, and I confirmed with MIDI-OX that the MPK Mini is sending the correct CC. However, when I use the Generic MIDI Keyboard preset in Studio One instead of the MPK Mini template, it works fine. What's the point of providing a template if it just breaks things?

I have the same problem, how did you manage to fix the joystick up/down to not overlap with K1 controls? i tried using the generic MIDI keyboard preset but it still overlapped, rendering my K1 knob useless

When you add the MPK Mini Mk II, select the "New Instrument" template rather than "Akai, MPKMini" in Studio One. If you find that the mod wheel gets stuck in the middle when you let go of the joystick, try pressing Prog Select+Pad 6 on the MPK Mini.

Since the MPK doesn't have dedicated transport buttons you'd need to assign the drum pads to the stop, play, etc. Unfortunately, I am not personally aware of any way to do this, or if it's even possible.

Any assignments to parameters that you create with your MIDI device/MPK mini will remain even after making assignments to another VST; Studio One calls this "focus mapping". These assignments will remain even after closing the song you are working on and coming back to it later, or even in an entirely new song. To "break" these connections, you will need to do it manually by clicking the same button in the VST window that is used to connect them in the first place. Hope this makes sense! It sounds like you are on the "Audio Setup" tab of the options menu... You need to be sure that you are on the "External Devices" tab and then clack the add button to setup the MPK.

There version number applies to Prime, Artist, and Professional. The difference is that there are more available features within the paid versions. But, as far as MIDI controllers are concerned, the setup should be the same within each of them.

As a KZbin content creator who has over 130 tutorials covering Studio One, I can assure you the answer is no. If you look at the comment sections for all of the S1 tutorials you watch, I also think that the answer to your question would be very obvious. So, I would not let your own personal frustrations influence you to leave misleading comments. Setting up 3rd-party MIDI controllers with any DAW can be complicated, at times, but if you are serious about your pursuit of music production, then you will invest the time needed to make things work together. At no other time have we been able to do so much with an external MIDI controller and DAW software, but there is a learning curve.
